    Cottrell & Co., Inc.
Naturally this type of event happened on a Friday evening as I returned from work. Immediately I ventured to Angie's List and started making phone calls. Jason Cottrell the owner of Cottrell &Co indicated that he would venture by the next morning at 7am. He indicated he would contact his best fellow to consult about septic systems. Promptly at 7 am Jason arrived and soon after the fellow whom I thought he was just going to call also showed up. I learned a lot about our system and Jason was an excellent find. He quickly ruled out a thing or two and basically uncovered the problem which was roots clogging up the system.

Decided to chose C E Taylor and Sons by research on Angie's List. In this survey, I almost rated a lower grade for responsiveness, but living in the Columbia SC area and with heavy rains over the last 6 months, I completely understand there are many folks out there in the same boat I am in.
Once I called, I spoke with Dawn and explained the problem. She indicated that Roland was their best person for diagnosing issues related to lift station pumps. After a couple of days anxiously awaiting, Roland called and indicated we were first on the list for Thursday Feb 4th appointment times. Roland ask a few questions about the system and pump and indicated that once he arrives, we will have an answer to the problems we are now experiencing. In that conversation, I could tell that we had a very experienced fellow coming to the Cloud house and we had hired the right folks to investigate the problem.
Upon arriving, Roland and Brandon met us in our driveway and after a friendly handshake and introduction they began to narrow down the problem by ruling out the major concerns of whether we had a pump problem or electrical problem. If a pump problem, it would mean money. If an electrical, it would probably mean less money. After unplugging and flipping the circuit breaker off and on a few times Roland thought this to be an electrical problem. The pump (although old) still was viable and a sure fire way to solidify the electrical issue was to bypass the circuit that operated the lift station pump. Roland asked for a drop cord and we plugged the pump into another outlet at our main house. The pump purred like a kitten and continued to work and NO circuit breaker tripped.
You either have a problem in your breaker box or somewhere between the circuit breaker and the pump, there is a short, said Roland and with that, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Tell Mrs. Cloud that she can wash the clothes she was intending to wash and you folks can venture to your out of town destination and be ok.
To sum up, the experience and visit to Angie's list was the best and right thing to do. The price of $375 was a great price and we believe that Roland and Brandon did a fantastic job. I appreciated their honesty and firmly believe they had our best interest in mind. I have no doubt that they probably could have made a great deal of money off of us if they were money hungry and dishonest. Most folks (including us) are generally at the mercy of folks especially in the septic system line of work. Good honest folks of whom we WILL be doing business with in the future.

This entire experience was a pleasure; from the first call to arrange service through the call to move up service and for the work completed at our residence.  Trey and Tim were professional and took the time to give information regarding future maintenance of our system.  We will certainly continue to use this company and will recommend them to others.

Had a back up although they could not come out that day they were able to schedule me the following day.  Very polite and found tank cover quickly.  Re-educated me on septic tanks, got the job done as quickly as possible.  Great service.  Wish more were like them.

Call on Monday and made appointment for Wednesday.  Was supposed to be first on the list. Was supposed to show up by 9:00.  Had not shown up by 10:00 I called and receptionist said he was at a business.  Never called to let me know they would be late.  Finally showed up about 11-11:15.  Good information about preventative maintenance on septic system from technician.  Little put off by fact he just piled dirt back on top of tank with no attempt to put sod back on top. Overall seemed efficient.

AAA Septic Tank Pumping, Installation, and Repair
Service went without a hitch.  It had been 6 years since we had our tank pumped, so it was time.  Solids level was pretty high.  Mike showed up when expected and didn't dawdle.  He made sure that the tank was pumped to the very bottom.  Grade A service.

The pump truck arrived at 12:30...a little late....but that was not a problem.  They worked quickly to pump the tank.  They were very courteous and professional.  I still have the roots in the line from the house, and they said a plumber could use an auger to remove them.

We needed to have our LETTs tank pumped pretty quick (it caught us by surprise).  We didn't know where to turn so I signed onto Angie's List and the reviews for AAA were good.  I called them and they were great about fitting us in.  I called them about 2pm yesterday afternoon, and originally they said it would be late today but called back and said they could fit us in this morning.  We were so grateful.  They arrived and immediately went to work.  They were pleasant and courteous and got the job done.  Will definitely call (and recommend) them again!

The septic tank was first to be installed and that process was virtually painless.  They showed up, dug the tank in, solid pipe and left.  No issues with septic that I know of, though this is rarely used.
Then we had the well installed in April of 2011 for a new home we were building.  Construction was fine and payment was made.  Fast forward to 2012, we have started construction and I had the well tested.  Ecoli was found in the well along with total colliform bacteria.  I called Sharpe's and they informed me that they told me to "shock" the well.  Shocking a well includes pouring liquid bleach down into the well.  At no point did they ever tell me to do this when the well was dug.
I shocked the well by pouring 3 gallons of bleach into the well as recommended by Sharpe's.  Drained well until PH level was back in balance.  I then retested the well (keep in mind every test is between 25- and 75 depending on who you use.)  Still positive for bacteria of both kinds.
I called Sharpe's for assistance and they informed me that is was my fault and something that I was doing wrong.  They said they would shock and test.  Called me back the following week and asked me to shock it, that they would come test.  I shocked the well, called them 24 hours after the PH was back in balance.  They sent the honey pot driver out (guy who drives the septic truck) to pull the sample.  He had no clue what he was doing, only what he was told.  He could not provide me any information and was virtually useless to talk to.  He took the sample to a different tester and it tested negative for bacteria.  A GREAT THING!!!!  So after talking with a representative at Sharpe's, local DHEC office, and another water treatment place I decided to wait 2 weeks and test again without shocking.  Guess what, more bacteria.
This is where it gets fun.  I called Sharpe's and was told I needed to talk with the owner or his wife.  I call back and talked with his wife.  She was just short of actually cursing at me and could not understand why I would keep testing the well.  You are supposed to test the well, it is the safest thing you can do when it involves your drinking water.  I was told that they installed the well, fulfilled their obligations and that they could not guarantee the flow or quality of the water.  This I understand, however for right at $5500 I would expect a little cooperation in trying to determine why a 300ft deep rockwell would be contaminated with bacteria.  I did not expected to be cussed at or treated like I was.  They were extremely rude and had no interest in helping me.
Possible causes for well contamination are:  improper construction, use of non-potable water during construction, bacteria in the pipes, cracks in well casings, grout, etc.  Damaged or improperly working septic tanks in the area, livestock fields in the area.
With the number of causes, I was not trying to tell Sharpe's that they were reason for the bacteria, I more wanted their expertise in trying to track down to make sure that the water was safe for our family to drink.  I never asked that they pay for any of this, I was more than willing to pay them for their time and services.  In the end, I was treated VERY rudely without correction of our issue.  I am now having to hire another well driller to help in this matter.
I would not hire Sharpe's ever again, to do anything.
