FThomas Oswald General Carpentry and Builders, LLCBuyer beware. Save yourself time, money, and a headache. Tom Oswald is a terrible builder. He will not abide by the contract he agrees to. He attempted to build a house for me in Ridgeway and failed to complete the house. It took him two years to complete 80% of the house. We had to fire him for breach of contract, his incompetency and poor workmanship. We are finding problems with his work all over the house. We are still fixing the mess he left behind. We discovered that Tom Oswald did not pay his subcontractors even though he was being paid consistently and timely through the construction loan. What kind of builder leave his subs unpaid and disappears. Tom Jr. is a crook and now running his retired dad’s (Tom Sr.) carpentry business and will eventually run it into the ground. There are a number of good reputable builders out there. Steer clear of Tom Oswald. If you don’t you will regret it.- Everett M.

DMTD ServicesWe hired Todd in July of 2019. Work actually started in August with demo; nothing happened for 3 weeks after that; it took forever to get kitchen completed; flooring was overpriced but Mike, installer, was great. Painting subs were a nightmare. The walls were not properly prepped, terrible priming and caulking job, ceiling had missed places, baseboard was painted over sloppy caulking job. These guys came back at least five times over 6 weeks and couldn't get it right. We are paying to have another company repaint downstairs area. Awful experience. Todd didn't come out to CK in work from Oct. to March. We decided against using him for upstairs bedroom and bath remodel because first part took 6 months. Most of the time we didn't know if or when anyone was coming to work. Todd was advanced more money than was actually used to complete work. He has since reimbursed us some of that, but it took 3 cancelled appointments on his part to finally get him back over to see what our concerns were. The project was poorly managed, the subs not always the best, and the time it took was just unreasonable. Todd is a nice enough person, but this is about getting the work done well and being reliable. We hired another company and they remodelled our master bath, built a custom tiled shower, redid floors, repainted there and guest bath, redid plumbing and added granite vanity tops, removed popcorn from ceiling there and in bedroom, kilz the ceilings, new carpet in master bedroom and on stairs for less than MTD estimate. This company started in late April and is finishing next week. Hired them to redo terrible painting downstairs. They also did our backsplash in the kitchen in one day and it looks incredible. That would have been extra with MTD. I am fine with Todd as a person, but wouldn't recommend him to do anything in my house or that of friends bc it was just such a long, drawn out negative experience for us, with the exception of Mike, Sean, and another of his employees who were great.- Barbara A.

FC & C BUILDERSConstruction quality is average at best. Have many minor flaws which means they don’t pay attention to details and they don’t care. They refuse to return any phone calls and emails. They are just quietly telling us to shove it. You should avoid C and C builders.- Dennis D.

AWorking with Construction Specialties of Columbia Inc. was a wonderful experience. Daniel and his team are true professionals. Daniel is attentive, detail oriented, and most importantly honest. His projected cost for the project aligned pretty close to the final tally, which is indicative of Daniel's knowledge of the construction and remodeling field, his attention to detail, and his familiarity and working relationship with community suppliers and individuals in the various trades. Remodeling an old house included a hiccup or two. Though there were a few obstacles, Daniel carefully assessed each situation and provided me with several options for each. He was also willing to listen to alternative solutions, which was particularly important for me as a woman working on this project with him.

AThis company is top notch from start to finish! I hired them to screen in a patio after they were highly recommended by a contractor whom I know. Their online reviews were also good, so I decided to give them a try. They gave me a detailed estimate of the work before they began. From the start of the project until it was done, they communicated with me about the status of the project and their timeline for completion. Each day, the workers showed up when they promised they would, and they were always respectful of my property. The workers are meticulous in their work and want to get things just right. They don't cut corners at all. Mr. Jones (owner) made some additional recommendations above my request to ensure that the project would turn out well. They aimed to ensure that I was completely satisfied with the work and went the extra mile to address any concerns I had.
