    We have had Dr Davidson as our Veterinary for over a year. You can tell she loves what she does and not only cares about your pet, but you as well. She takes the time to explain things. She also took care of other other dog who had passed on the day she was out of the office. When she heard about it she called us to say she had heard and wanted to console us. This confirmed we choose the right Veterinarian for our animals.

    Dr. Winters is excellent! Cannot say enough good things about him. His practice is affordable, he is up-front about concerns he has about your pet. He listens to questions you may have. He shows compassion towards your pet and is efficient.

    Basick Pet Pals
    We have used Basick pet service for about 4 years beginning.  Sharon is competent, reliable but most of all our dogs loved her.  She took care of 3 dogs while we were away.  One Airedale, a schnauzer and a berger picard puppy with a ton of energy.  All flourished under Sharon's care.  She came three times a day to care for, play with and feed the dogs.  She was also alert to conditions in and around the house.  One time running water, a result of a faucet not being shut off, packages left at front door, mail or newspapers that missed the vacation holds.  I cannot say enough good things about her or her service.  

    We moved from the area in March so are not able to continue using her.  Truly wish she and her family would consider a move south and we would use her again in a heart beat.  I am giving Sharon permission to give provide my phone number to serious perspective clients.

    I didn't fill in dates of service as there were numerous periods and the cost of service I found to be very reasonable.

    My 3 year old dog was diagnosed with allergies in September by my vet in Michigan.  At that time he was put on steroids.  We spend 8 months of the year in Hilton Head and were leaving for South Carolina October 1.  My vet told me he had to get off the steroids after 4 weeks and that I should take him to the vet in Hilton Head as soon as we arrived.  I called and got an appointment as soon as we arrived and took him to Dr. Erika Elmore at Heritage Vet.  When she saw him I told her he needed to get off the steroids and she disagreed.  She instructed me to put him on a different limited ingredient diet then the one I had him on and said she felt he was okay on the steroids for a "short time" - 6 weeks while we did a food trial.  That 6 weeks kept being extended until he had been on steroids for a total of 5 months. Inthe next 4 months she treated him, I only received one phone call from Dr. Elmore.  When I questioned her regarding the continuation of the steroids she became annoyed and from then on had vet techs call to see how he was doing and relay instructions.  Within 3 weeks she wanted him on a perscriptiion diet (Over $70 per bag purchased through the clinic) even though he was doing well on the limited ingredient diet.  The steroids he was on were marked up 100% over the price on Drs. Foster and so I asked for a perscription.  Reluctantly, I was given a perscription but was told they would not speak or cooperate with them if they called to ask a question or verify the perscription.  I was also told I could not give him chewable heartworm meds and was sold ONE Ivermectine tablet at a 800% markup ($80.) from what I pay for ivermectine for my horses.  All told, I was charged over $1,000.00 in 4 months.  Treatment seemed to be driven by charging the most possible for items that were marked up to ridiculous prices
    The most concerning is that Dr. Elmore only wanted to see my dog twice in that time and kept him on steroids for another 4 months after we arrived in S. Carolina.  I finally sought a second opinion and was told that NO dog should be on steroids over 4 weeks unless aged and it was necessary to keep them alive.  Protocol also called for blood tests every 2-4 weeks to check for damage (such a liver damage, diabetes and  cushings disease) caused by the steroids.  No testing, evaluation or blood work was ever done by Dr. Elmore, nor was it suggested. After doing my own online research, I found that was the protocol recommended by every veterinary reference I found.  Oh, and one of the front desk staff is incredibly rude to clients.  How she keeps her job is beyond me.
    Presently, we are testing my dog to see if Dr. Elmore's treatment has caused irreperable damage to my young dog.  I would not recommend anyone go to her...ever or for anything.  There can only be two reasons for her putting my dog in the situation where he may have permanent bodily damage.  Either she is incompetent or she did it intentionally because she doesn't care.  My biggest regret is not switching vets when I was first uncomfortable with Dr. Elmore not wanting to answer my questions.

    Do yourself and your pet a favor, and stay away from Banfield Pet Hospital Bluffton/Hilton Head!!! Though one of the vets, Dr. Michele Trammell is excellent, the other vets are so so, and the staff is the worst! Banfield tries to sell you on buying an annual Wellness Plan for your vet, which in all fairness is not a bad price if you plan on taking your pet to the vet every three months for routine office visits. The plans do not cover anything outside of normal routine examinations and vaccines. If you have to purchase any additional prescriptions for your pet or heartworm pills, they cost extra, and in many cases those prescriptions cost more than what other veterinarian offices charge. My latest incident sealed it for never going back to Banfield
    Pet Hospital or PetSmart for that matter - yes, PetSmart will lose my business also, especially since Petco is down the street. When I first brought my new puppy to Banfield earlier this year, my puppy was given all vaccines and examinations that were suggested by Banfield. After my puppy's first visit, they started him on heartworm - Trifexis. They charged me $23.70 for one pill
    of Trifexis 5-10lbs. I had purchased heartworm before through 1800PetMeds, so when I found out that I could get my dogs Trifexis through 1800PetMeds for roughly $18.00 a pill, I decided to order a 6-pack of Trifexis through them. Well, when 1800PetMeds called to get verification from Banfield, the staff and vets were not very cooperative.  After 2-3 weeks of going back and forth with Banfield to give 1800PetMeds the okay, I was finally able to get the 6-pack prescription. But by this time, my puppy had almost missed a month of not having a heartworm pill. Banfield NEVER tried to match 1800PetMeds price, even when I asked about it - why would any place in the business of selling plans, not want to keep their heartworm pill business also?! Anyway, once I got the pills, I gave one pill a month for the next 6 months to my puppy with no issues or side effects. After I dispensed the last pill, I went to order more through 1800PetMeds, but needed to order the Trifexis for a heavier dog, since my puppy has grown. I took him to Banfield where he was weighed and it was entered into his records. Soon after that, I received a message from 1800PetMeds that Banfield would not okay my dog?s heartworm pill prescription, because they wanted to do a heartworm test. This is not my first dog, so I know that if a dog has not missed taking any heartworm pills, the dog only needs to get a heartworm test done annually at the time of their annual booster/rabies shots and check-up, but Banfield was adamant
    about me bringing in my pet.  Again, I ask WHY???!!! He has been on heartworm for the last 6 months straight, and he's due for his annual in 3 months, why do I have to make a separate appointment for a heartworm test? Of course I went around and around with them for two weeks, and I finally said I was done. Cancelled the Wellness Plan and will never take my current dog or any future animals their again. All they want is your money, they DO NOT care about your animals. They are not open and honest with you, they talk with you as if they are trying to hide something from you.     Please do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL!

    We take our dog to Brookes Bed & Biscuit Grooming. That is a pretty nice place. It is good. They have good hours. They have nice people at the desk. The dog seems to like it. It is convenient and the prices are right.  I absolutely will use this provider again in the future.

    Evergreen Pet Lodge
    We first started using Evergreen about 8 years ago when we came down to HHI for vacation and I thought of bringing the dogs and boarding them locally so we could see them and take them to the beach while on vacation.  We live here here now and we still use Evergreen and in fact have never used a another kennel on the island.  We have been very satisfied.  The place is well run, clean, and we are always given a warm welcome by Jonathan when we come by.  I have had no reason to go anywhere else.

    Banfield The Pet Hospital
    I went to pick up Trifexis for my dog and they couldn't find his records. We had just been there a month ago updating all his shots.
    I spent over 30 minutes there and the last time they could find on record my dog was  there was dated 2013.
    I am signed up with the Banfield plan and pay monthly. They have no idea where his records went. 
    This was the final straw. 
    The time before an associate commented he was a bad dog for jumping. He went to the Petsmart classes.

    Overall the quality of the care provided wasn't bad, but it depended upon the vet you saw.  We took our two dogs there for several years since we lived in town and my wife went there before we were married.  After going there for a number of years, we did get to know one of doctors better than the others and he/she was WONDERFUL.  However, I got a sense that some of the other docs seemed to be working on "commission" or a profit share.  One of our dogs needed an cruciate ligament repair and he put on weight due to inactivity. Well a while later he was in there for a routine check and the doc wanted to do  a thyroid check. Well my wife who is medical professional chewed him out since it was clearly evident that he had surgery so the weight gain was likely due to inactivity.
    On our other dog, we took him in there since he was lethargic and stopped eating.  They took us right away and the conclusion was that he probably had an infection.  A few days later we came back and saw another doctor (the one we liked) and they examined him and he/she had us take him right away to a specialty hospital.  The verdict there was cancer.  He was operated on and received 2 rounds of chemo, but we lost him finally after two months
    Well, to make a long story short, when our favorite vet left this office after a 'spat' with the owner, we left too and NEVER went back.
    We followed this vet to their next destination.  I asked him/her if their old employer 'encouraged' the other docs to recommend procedures to 'pad the bill'.  It was confirmed. 
    Basking Ridge Animal Hospital was convenient, but keep your wallet close and question what they do.  The owner was described as a good vet, but a better businessman.  I have spoken with others in town who experienced the same thing.
