    UPSTATE VETERINARY SPECIALISTS
The surgery went extremely well, and the entire mass (about 2.5lbs!) was removed. Boomhauer had to stay with them in the hospital for 6 days, but had excellent care and I received twice-daily updates from the surgeon, Dr. Sawyere. It has been nearly 4 weeks since the surgery and Boomhauer has done so well - the huge fat scruff is gone (people thought he has extremely overweight, but it was the mass), and he is now able to sleep deeply and comfortably, which he could not before. We are incredibly lucky to have the experts at UVS so close by. We live in Greenwood, which is a little over an hour away. As an additional service, I learned that our regular vet here in Greenwood was able to (at no charge) send Boomhauer's x-rays and records to the UVS team for a consultation before they determined that he would need to be seen by them. They also kept our vet updated about Boom's condition throughout the process, from the diagnosis to the surgery. It actually took several tests - from x-rays, a scope and finally a CT scan - to eventually figure out what was wrong with Boom, which I have included in the Cost of Service. These were all necessary, though, because it was difficult to diagnose. They worked hard and consulted with each other while trying to save our dog. We couldn't be more grateful or pleased with the outcome.

Conditions were diagnosed, treated, and monitored with compassion and professionalism. The treatments provided over a year of additional quality time with our dog. Dr. Timmerman has a reputation for successfully diagnosing and treating conditions that others were not able to.

The experience went well, as always. We only had to wait for a minute or two before being ushered into one of the exam rooms. One of the techs/assistants came in shortly to get started with getting their weights, and to ask if we had any particular concerns. The doctor came in shortly after. She always handles the animals very well, gently and confidently; and to my knowledge, none of them have ever given her a problem. Check-out went well, was delayed slightly (and understandably) because of an incoming phone call, and we were on our way home.
To be honest, I've never taken our animals to any other vet's office in the area, but I still think they must be the best here. We've been taking our animals here for about ten years, and they have seen us through thick and thin. They have helped us with tiny kittens who needed to be bottle-fed (which I'd never previously done), a case of diabetes, one of cancer, three of euthanization-- a more compassionate vet group I'd have never known. There have also been spaying, neutering, dental work, and minor services, such as claw trimming and anal gland expression.
The place is conveniently located on the bypass (near WalMart). It's always clean,, and has recently received a nice update/remodelling. The staff is excellent, consistently professional and pleasant, very strongly animal-oriented, and yet also seem to care deeply about the people. I've been there also when emergencies have come in, and beyond a doubt, they know what they're doing, and they work as a team. I also know that some (if not all) of the staff has rescued strays, which is a BIG PLUS in my book.

We were called back immediately, the dr was late however. they had tried to call and have me come in a few minutes late, but they called my house phone, which as i work, i didnt get the message until i got home from the appointment. usually they are pretty punctual. they are in the process of remodelling, but that did not affect my visit. the staff is very animal friendly and greets them with much enthusiasm. they do seem a tad pricey, but ive heard of worse.

We are very happy with this practice; they are great. I had two older German Shepherds and they were very good with my dogs. One of them had a lot of hip problems and they were very attentive. They checked on my dog after surgery 24 hours later; just to see how it was doing. They would meet us at their practice during off hours in an emergency situation. There are two vets there who are good people and are equally caring. I would not hesitate to take any pet there.

Took my (2) dogs in for routine vaccinations for canine flu. We were no sooner in the waiting area than they took the dogs back one at a time to get their vaccinations. I have always been very pleased with the Doctors and staff here. More importantly, my dogs are happy to go as opposed to the stereotype of animals hating to go to the vet.

The work was fine and my dog is doing much better. But I was given one price and then afterward the price had doubled. Then when I wanted to know how many teeth vet had pulled to figured out why the price had gone up three of his staff gave me three different answers and the vet refuses to return my calls.

Last month, my husband and I had to make that call you dread for our beloved dog of thirteen years. As my husband was going out the door to work early in the morning, we found our dog unresponsive and uncomfortable. There were blood stains all over the living room carpet where he had been restlessly moving around all night long. We could not bear to see him uncomfortable and in pain, so we decided to phone the on-call vet to meet us at the clinic to have the dog put down. It was around 6 am and before normal office hours, but we were willing to pay the additional fee to have the vet meet us at the office for an emergency visit. So we used the emergency vet phone number to call the on-call veterinarian, Dr. Edwards.
When I got Dr. Edwards on the phone, he seemed very indifferent about our situation and rather doubtful that his services were truly needed. His attitude was huffy and exasperated, more along the lines that we were bothering him, rather than being at all interested in doing his job as an on-call vet. His bad attitude made an already difficult situation that much more unpleasant. In the end, he offered to come a few minutes before the office opened but as this was still hours away, I told him to forget it.
We took the dog to be put down at another veterinary office in town.
I understand that it must be inconvenient to take calls in the middle of the night, but that is the nature of the business. If my husband and I were willing to pay for his services, he should have been willing to deliver them. Dr. Edwards lacks common courtesy, sensitivity to the feelings of the clients that pay his salary, and just good old professionalism - all qualities we have come to expect in the professionals who care for the pets we love.
I will never take any of my animals to Dr Edwards for any services based on my very bad experience with him.

Oops...I put the wrong info in the top box! The vet examined his teeth and one of his toes on his rear left paw. They also cut his toenails, which they did not charge for since I had to wait awhile to be seen. I also purchased monthly heartworm medication and some eye ointment. She also made running commentary about his facial paralysis and eye droop as if these things were my fault . My dog had a neurological episode related to an inner ear problem about 6 yrs ago that mimicked a stroke. Needless to say, he presents just like a human with the after effects of a stroke.
