    Olin Metal Works
It was a wonderful experience, Mr Boyd(Olin) and an associate came to my home and measured the area we wanted fenced. They were very punctual and proffessional, gave us an estimate. We liked them so much that we didn't get any other estimates! My husband and I decided they were the company we wanted. They came back out, did detailed measurements and within a week or so they had fabricated the fencing, came and did a "fit" with the actual pieces. They removed them, to have them final coated and then returned a few days later to install. Both my husband and I are totally happy with the end results. The fencing is wonderful and looks beautiful.. It was such a delight to work with Olin Metal Work!   Wish we needed more fencing.

    Standridge Masonry & Repair
Prompt response [within the hour] when I called to get an estimate and if could he take on this project.
He offered options as how best to replace back door brick steps given the tightness of the space when cars were parked [the space allocated to parking and the size of the steps had led the previous owners to install steps which were too narrow plus substandard mortar had been used apparently causing the steps to fall apart].  New steps were the only practical solution since the old steps had been removed and cinder blocks had been used as temporary steps.  He built new steps which had the proper depth and height and increased the overall width of the steps making it safer and easier to enter or exit through the back door.
All of the foundation vents on the back side of the house were to varying degrees below ground level.  [During the recent floods water used those vents to flood underneath the house.]  Only some of the vents had some sort of brick wall around the vents and those that were there were not high enough to be effective.  He built new protective walls for two vents, he added additional height to four vents, and he built new protective walls for three vents on the end of the house.
There are six front steps and in the fifty or so years of the house much of the mortar has disappeared.  Several bricks on the edges had come loose and three bricks at the top where the wrought iron railing was anchored had come loose.  The railing itself was very "wiggly".  The bottom row of bricks had an area where several bricks had begun to sag.  All of these issues were identified and he repaired and replaced bricks where needed.
The quality of the work reflects on his attention to detail, his skill, and his professionalism.  Very reasonable cost.  He removed all construction debris.
Will we use him in the future?  Absolutely!  We have already agreed on our next project [driveway repair and new walkway to front steps which will begin after the holidays.]

It's a small porch and he installed some wrought iron hand railings. He did an excellent job. When I did the request, he called me immediately and we set up a time to come out and give me an estimate. He came out, he was on time. He was a very easy person to work with. I have no complaints. He did an excellent job. I think the price was excellent. It was within my budget. He was professional.

    It went great.
Scotty Dixon came to our home, took the measurements, then fabricated and painted the gate in his shop. On installation, it fit perfectly and looks great.
He gave us three recommendations on interior finials and even found a Gaelic 3-point cross to fill the center portion of the gate. The handle on the gate is a match to the finial leaves and parts were salvaged from a plantation near Charleston. He was true to his schedule and timeline and provided us enough updates that we were able to paint the wall the gate was attached to a few days before installation.
The handle still sticks, though, and some after-installation adjustments were required. But the gate looks terrific and functions pretty much the way we wanted.
He did such a good job that we recommended Scotty to our interior renovation contractor who subsequently hired him to adjust our interior stair rail as a separate contract.

    Olin Metal Works
I was thoroughly pleased with the experience. They came out the very next day, arrived on schedule, and did a quality job. What's more is they didn't charge for the service since they guaranteed their work.

I initially called to get an estimate and promptly received a return phone call and he was able to come the same day. After agreeing on a price, which was very reasonable, we set a date for the installation. He was actually able to install the rails a day early, and they look fantastic. I would definitely recommend Olin Metal Works and I would definitely use them in the future. We definitely had a great experience.

    Anvil Artistry
On May 2, 2012 Mr Kinard of Anvil Artistry showed pictures of his work and gave us an estimate for fabricating and installing 3 iron rails for our steps. His estimate was acceptable and he asked and we gave him a deposit of $175. He agreed to install them on May 19.On May 18 he called and said they were not ready, but would be out to install them on May 21. He did not show and did not answer or return our phone calls or respond to an email to him.
Between  May 18 and 28th we called him a dozen times only to get his answering machine. On the 30 we called from a different phone and he answered (he obviously had caller ID) and said he would install them the next day. Again a no show.
On June 1st I contacted the Richland County Sheriff's Department and reported this chain of events. A deputy called Kinard who answered the phone.  The Deputy told him about the penalty for obtaining property (the $175 deposit) illegally.
Mr. Kinard said he would send a check. The check arrived but it bounced. After telling of my intention to go back to the Sheriff, he said he would deliver cash the next day-which he did.  CASE CLOSED.

    Robert's Painting Services
They did a good job stripping the rust and old paint. Also, they did a good job painting. They did accidentally splatter some chemical (probably paint thinner) on a couple of our plants under the railing which resulted in brown spots on the leaves. But, it was minimal and did not adversely affect the plants. I gave a "B" for punctuality because they did not show up one day they were suppose to work. Later, he told me that he over booked. However, he was upfront and honest about it when I asked and they did get the job done in a reasonable amount of time.
