    Charleston Creative Fences +
Charleston Creative Fences revelry completes a fence build and Im beyond impressed. They specialize in horizontal fences and in the Charleston area they are hands down the best. The quality that went in to building my fence is something you dont see from many companies these days. My neighbors are jealous now! Greg the owner l is meticulous, thoughtful, and makes sure that that not only will you get a quality fence, but youll get a fence that will last a lifetime. Id hire them again in a heartbeat. Thank you for for an outstanding job. Im absolutely thrilled with my new fence!

    Michael White Construction
Hiring Michael White as contractor for our building project was one of the best decisions we have made. He transformed 10 X 20 plywood shipping containers into an outbuilding and beautiful addition to our property. He added trusses and a metal roof to create an upstairs storage area as well. The end result has been so attractive and utilitarian that the company which sold us the crates has brought clients to our home to view the end result.

    Holy City Exteriors LLC
the easiest experiance I've encountered with construction. The gentleman that did our work was also the owner of the company so if you had any complaints, (which we didn't) he was always around. Hey was very knowledgeable and help explain all of what and why he was doing. The deck came out great and our sunroom is gorgeous!!! Very very very pleased!! We're looking forward to a storage building next by K squared.

    AAA Quality Building
Builder did it in 1 day with a small crew
excellent work, excellent manners, timely, professional, cleaned up after them selves
Shed with stood Hurricane Matthew (2016) no rain got in, shed stayed dry, and most
of all it didn't blow over :) the builder used hurricane straps to secure the shed down & this was not an extra cost.

    Onyx Construction Group
This was by far the worst experience that I ever had with a builder.  I hired Onyx Construction Group, run by Ferello Croker to build an addition to my garden shed.  I signed a contract and had an on-site inspection by his alleged foreman.  I was then told that the new total would be $225 more.  I had mentioned a shed kit from Home Depot to match the shed kit already there and he said that he could build it much cheaper and better.  More about 'better' later.  I singed and was told construction would begin on Thursday afternoon.  When that didn't happen, Croker told me that the crew would be there at 7:00am to start on Friday morning.  Nope; Friday was a total no-show.  I called Croker who said that they crew thought that it might rain and took a different job.  Realized that he actually has no 'crew' and hires random builders.
The two-man crew showed up on Saturday and began hauling material.  Shortly after that, one disappeared and when I asked the other one, he said that Onyx had forgotten to order nails and that he went to get them.  At 2:30 I got a call from home telling me that the crew was gone.  HUH?  They tried to work on the roof frame, but Onyx had made an error in calculating the material and the roof pieces were all 6 inches short.  (These calculations are available free online.)  Onyx demanded more money as the job was 1/2 done....HUH?  The job wasn't even 1/4 done, but I got the '20 years in the business' lecture and paid additional money.  What was the money for?  The builder forgot to include the floor and didn't factor it into the job and if I didn't pay for it, there would be no floor. Instead of using the existing shed kit on the property as his reference point for the estimate, he used a new Home Depot kit that didn't have a floor. Did the contract specify that it was to have a matching floor?  Yup.  It seems that he just forgot to factor it in.
The next four days the crew was no-show, taking us into day 8 of the 2-day job with only 7 total hours completed.  Friday, a new 'crew' of two older gentleman showed up and looked around and left to go get more material.  I told them not to come on Saturday as I was hosting a party.  They agreed to come on Easter Sunday (I have no idea why.) Again, no-show and no call from Onyx.
Monday the crew worked a combined total of 14 hours (So much for 7 hours being 1/2 done!)  They didn't finish, and when they left I went out and started really looking at the job and was horrified at what I saw.  Tuesday the builders were here for another 8 hours combined and then left as they ran out of materials once again due to Onyx miscalculations.
I sent a detailed note with all the issues and asked the contractor to come out.  He again refused.  I asked for his contractor's license number, and that request was ignored. I then said that if he didn't inspect, I would have to look into legal action as a remedy.  He came out on Wednesday and we went over all the issues that I had seen including the horrible warped roof that he claimed was a good and supposed to curl up on the corners so water would drip off the ends.  Seriously; he actually said that.  The crew did not show up.  Croker agreed to send a detailed report Wednesday evening of what should be done.  Nope.
Crew was a no-show on Thursday.  On Friday one crew member showed up with a hammer and two of the lowest grade 1 x 3 boards I have ever seen.  He told me that they were to replace crooked trim, and that was all the work he was told to do.  No repairs to any of the multiple serious issues.  He called Croker and put him on speaker.  He began to berate me and argue once again and I asked if I could say something and he finally shut up and agreed.  I said, 'Your're fired'.  Within 30 minutes I received a bill for the balance of the money on the job.  I have notified Onyx that after I get the license numbers of all who worked on the job, as specified in the contract, and the copy of the required building permit, and the completion of the job, including ALL the corrections, I would gladly pay the final bill.
We are now at a stalemate while I wait for the departments of licensing and permits in Charleston to launch their investigation.  To view the shed construction project, you can see it on YouTube; the video is called Onyx Construction shed build.

    Commonwealth Contracting LLC
My first communication with Mike was at the end of June. In mid-July, I still hadn't gotten an estimate. It occurred to me that noone had asked me about what pattern flooring I wanted so I called Mike.  He said "You just need to go to Lumber Liquidators website and choose one." I did not know this was the process.    Having no idea what to look for in flooring as far as quality or budget constraints I  chose a (thankfully) great bamboo product.  The work was supposed to start in August but the flooring I chose was not in stock so I had to pay for additional shipping costs and then it was on backorder.   Then when the day came to start the project, September 15, the flooring  hadnt been picked up! and so another few days went by while it acclimated.  After the majority of the flooring was installed it was weeks later that the nosing for  the stairs arrived.  Apparently it wasnt ordered at the time the flooring was.
I had to rent a POD for my furniture during the flooring installation and it stayed in my driveway for weeks after the job was over.
I was told that tile was the way to go in the bathroom and I needed to go to Lowes and pick it out.  I did that but when it was time to start the tile job Logan had not picked it up so I had to start all over again choosing tile.  It was assumed I would know that I knew I had to pick out the grout as well as the tub, faucet, sink, countertop, etc.  I had no idea how to do this without measurements and guidance on what would work and how to stay in budget.
I havent dealt with contractors often but I have had flooring installed on two prior occasions.  both times I chose the product I wanted, it was ordered , and placed in my home for acclimation. Then the work began.   I guess I thought someone would walk through this with me since the quote was based on price allowances and measurements on each item in the bid. I ended up buying my own sink, faucet, and shower head after being  so frustrated with them.
The project manager (Logan) is very enthusiastic and positive when you meet him . He told me he was hands on but was actually nowhere to be found on the job during installation.  communicating with him was difficult.  He didn't respond to texts.  I had to forward them to Mike and when he responded I felt like somehow I was to blame for not understanding how things work.  I was told that they do this work every day and customers know to pick out what they want.  I'm not sure about that.
    1. The two guys who did the actual work (Auty and Johnny) are knowledgeable and talented carpenters and if not for them and the fact that they intervened for me several times, i'm not sure when the jobs would have been completed.
    2. While I wish them every success, I cannot write anything other than  my truth here.  I believe the business needs better administration and communication with customers in order to last for the long term.  I think a sit-down meeting at the outset to review product choices and price point would be valuable.  And, a project manager who is on site.

    TruRoof Solutions LLC
I purchased a "deal" offered by Tru Roof in July. I emailed them after purchase to inquire about color samples and get the ball rolling on install. They were immediately in touch and dropped off the color boards for me to pick the shingle color. I selected the color, and Bennie came out to inspect my roof. I also inquired about gutters. After getting all the dimensions he told me my roof was larger than the allotted 2000sq. ft. and that additional payment would be required for the additional square footage and the slope of the roof line. I decided to pass on the install of gutters since my cost of the roof had now increased, but agreed on the additional payment and he scheduled me for install the first week of August. The install was pushed back by two weeks due to weather, other jobs he had going, and waiting for my shingles to arrive. When my shingles did arrive, they were the wrong color. Not the shingle I had asked for. Bennie called and asked if I would still take these shingles, and offered me a credit if I would. I asked if he would be willing to install the gutters in place of the credit, and he agreed.
His crew came out early on the morning of 8/16 and immediately began tearing the shingles off the roof. The worked fast and efficient, but were not quite as clean as I would prefer. They were unable to completely finish the job on Saturday and returned early Sunday morning to finish the last bit of install and to clean up. Bennie came out later that day to install the gutters. I talked through some of my concerns from the install - bent flashing, shingles that looked a bit pinched, etc.. And he said he would have someone come out and take care of that - They never did.
After installing the gutters he told me he did not have brackets in black to secure them, that he would have to order the brackets, and would be back out to install them - I followed up with him 3 times regarding the brackets, each time being told they were coming. They never came, and he never came back. He also said he would put a splash guard up on the back corner of the house - never happened. The worst part is the gutters leak - they leaked immediately after install, which I text and emailed him about - and thought would be addressed when he came out to put the brackets on to secure the gutters, but it has been 3 months and I have had zero follow up.
My roof looks great, and I am happy with the roof itself, but very disappointed in the gutters and the lack of follow-up and follow through. Should I need roofing care in the future, it will not be with this company.

    AAA Quality Building

Dave and crew showed up early and wasted no time getting setup. They were completely instep with one another and finished the project in about four hours. They cleaned up the yard debris and did a good job. Dave has a coupon on this website for a free ramp.

This was beautiful to watch. Our yard went from flat ground to a beautiful shed in five hours. As I told Dave the builder and his helpers, it was like watching ballet, except a lot better. Everybody knew their jobs and worked so well that it just flowed together. I never thought that a shed could be built so quickly and so accurately, but that's exactly what happened. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone.
