Counseling & Mental Health reviews in Charleston

I have seen Dr. C for several years and he is a very proficient Dr, the front staff does not answer phone calls or call you back when needed. I have had several emergencies and rd he only way to get any help was to drive to their office for help. I have tried to talk to the manager about these issues and still have not gotten any results. Dr. C is a great Dr but he is losing patients due to staff incompentacy.

    Stockwell, Stephanie K.
The office is casual and comfortable.  The location is easy to get to and there is always parking.  Teddy is always on time with our appointments and offers many different times/days for appointment options. Insurance is accepted.
I have been seeing Teddy for a few months and it has been helpful and insightful.  She is kind, warm, and calm.  She is a great listener and communicator.  She is seasoned in her practice so she has a lot of experience dealing with a whole realm of issues.  She is compassionate, which is a key quality for a therapist!  Teddy works with me (collaborates) to help me with a path forward and provides gentle suggestions about things I can do to work on my time.
I highly recommend Stephanie (Teddy) Stockwell for therapeutic services.

    Diane Hamrick
Dr. Hamrick is caring and empathetic but also wise in challenging me to re-evaluate my views and see other perspectives.  She is wise, smart, experienced and patient.  Diane is committed to her client's improvement, never with an eye on the clock, but always with an eye towards what is needed and how to make progress in each session.   I am grateful to her for her counseling and wisdom, and I credit her for my current state of mental/emotional happiness.  I would recommend her without hesitation to anyone in need of a counselor for any difficulties large or small.

Although I have always seems to have trouble getting efficient assistance with the front desk staff, I have always considered the office physicians to have very pleasant bedside manner. However, I have found it extremely difficult to even get an appointment with my current physician even when he insists that I report any emergency situations. There was even a few instances that the doctor had to intervene and ask that the ladies at the receptionist desk allow patients to relay messages to him pertaining to situations of emergency, but they continue to deny accommodation. I have even had a pharmacist that refused to have any contact or association with the office due to the office staff's rudeness and unavailability. I find the office staff to be very condescending at times. I have even over been subjected to awkward situations in which they were making negative comments and remarks about another patient while still in my presence. Although the Dr. C is a competent and empathetic physician, I could no longer subject myself to constantly deal with such hassles. As long as there are no hold ups or concerns regarding insurance, medications, and appointments (basically anything), then you are not likely to receive any objection from this office staff.

    Ernest Horres MD
I have multiple issues including brain damage from alcohol fetal syndrome (at birth), restless leg syndrome, seizures, nerve pain (double back surgery in 2011) for which I prefer not to take pain medication, as well as PTSD for which I was given disability in 2000 although I continued to work. I was misdiagnosed with many illnesses until age 50. Dr. HORRES is the most amazing physchiatrist I have ever met and I'm thrilled to be his patient. I was in terrible condition when we met as I missed our first appointment due to a memorial service and simply didn't realize how bad not having my seizure medicine would be since I always have it. I was still able to laugh with him. He is the first psychiatrist I have ever seen who did not insist on changing medications I've taken successfully for over 35 years. He spent a full hour with me discussing all my issues; not the usual quick 10 minutes if you are lucky you receive with most physicians. I can't say enough of how impressed I was.

    Carolina Neurological Clinic
My diagnosis of MS from 1992 was rescinded in 2009 after having pulmonary emboli (not from a DVT of the leg), pulmonary hypertension, and a TIA stroke, however I am still experiencing right sided weakness from my face down to my feet. July of this year I had a very bad episode of right sided weakness that practically last 3-4 weeks. The weakness was very intense this time and required me using a wheelchair. Also, I have had ptosis of my right eyelid. The physician I saw, Dr. King said I pretended to be weak because I wanted attention! Please note I have a report of an EMG that shows I have had neuropathy in my right arm and radiculopathy in my right leg. I am an educated woman with a master's degree, grown children, and loving husband! I certainly don't need attention from a doctor or anyone else! I am very confident in myself and know what I self esteem problems! As I approach 50 I must say, my life is great! I am making lemonade out of the lemons with health, therefore, I rely on God to get me through.
It amazes me how a doctor can form an opinion without actually knowing the patient, given that was my second time seeing him at Carolina Neurological! The unfortunate matter is, as of today I am still experiencing the unexplained right sided weakness. It's like I am having TIA strokes. I don't know when it will happen nor what will trigger it.
In closing, no matter the profession, we should all remain humble and realize sometimes in life we will encounter situations that we have no answer, however if we are humble, our hearts and mind will be open to learning and growing as an individual. Therefore, we will not treat people as if they are beneath us, because we assume we know who they are or who we think they should be! I feel my education makes me no better than anyone else in life. My education allows me to always be thankful and humble so that I can treat people with respect and dignity.

    Rosenshein, Dr. Ira
I highly recommend Dr. Rosenshein. I have been seeing him for 3 years and have never had any problems. I am always able to get appointments at convenient times, the wait is never more than 5 minutes beyond my appointment time, and I feel that I get excellent care. Dr. Rosenshein actually spends the full 30 minutes with me at each appointment, rather than the 10 minutes that most psychiatrists offer these days. At my most recent visit, Dr. Rosenshein reviewed my medications and provided counseling during my session. He was very friendly and thorough and treated me with respect. I have recommended him to other people and will continue to do so in the future.

    Charleston Neurology Associates
Very good practice to work with. Entering an area of medicine that I had no experience with, they explained everything to me, sought to educate me as much as possible, conducted the study and gave me the results all in a timely manner. I am now working out which medication to use to solve my sleep disorder and I know I am under excellent care.

    Musc. Institute Of Psychiatry
While I wish there were more open appointments available for my current MUSC psychiatrist, I understand that her schedule is jammed because she's a gifted and highly-recommended psychiatrist. I find the level of psychiatric care here at MUSC to be really stellar and compassionate, their questions to be appropriately probing and their analysis to be really insightful. I've been going here for going on two years now because I find the psychiatric care that I get here at MUSC to be high-quality and impactful on my life in positive ways. I highly recommend the psychiatrists on staff at MUSC's Institute of Psychiatry!

    Rosenshein, Dr. Ira
He returns phone calls promptly, has never cancelled an appointment with
me, and most importantly spends time with me instead of just dispensing
medication. Follow up appointments are given a full 30 minutes which
is almost unheard of in psychiatry. He takes most insurance and also
offers affordable rates for people without insurance. I was referred to
him by a friend, and I have referred several friends to him as well.
All of us have never been anything but pleased. I highly recommend
