    We found this company on Angie's List in February 2014 and were excited to give our business to a neighbor who lives on the same street. I happened to see the owner outside while walking and invited her to come to the house to provide an estimate. She arrived on time, gave me a great estimate, and her team showed up the following day for our first service. The two girls did an excellent job of cleaning our home.
    I emailed the owner to schedule our second cleaning for the following month. The girls arrived and did a great job again. This was the end of our happy relationship with Low Country Maid Services.
    I emailed the owner to schedule our next monthly visit for the end of April. No reply. A few days later, I emailed again. Perhaps she was busy or out of town. Again, no response. I called to schedule an appointment and was finally able to have the girls come for a cleaning before the end of the month.
    I had similar contact issues while trying to schedule May's cleaning, so I started early in June to schedule a cleaning for July 1. We were expecting company on July 2 and wanted the house cleaned just before their arrival. The first 2 emails again went unanswered. While walking the neighborhood one morning, I saw her outside and asked if she was receiving my emails. Shonna's response was, "I haven't made my July schedule yet." I waited until later in the month before emailing her again. She replied that she had me on the schedule for my requested date. Thank goodness!
    My latest attempt to schedule a cleaning has gone unanswered again. We decided to just find another service.
    My experience in communicating with the owner of this company can be described in one word: frustrating. We paid for the service as the service was performed, so money and collection issues are not relevant here. We are two women who do a fair job in keeping the mess to a minimum, so the work is not extensive. We have our suspicions why Low Country Maid Services did not want our business, but without communication from the owner, we cannot confirm them. However, as a fellow business owner, I can attest there are better ways to fire a customer than ignore and neglect. They may not have wanted to do business with us for personal reasons, but the manner in which it was handled was unprofessional and unwarranted. The only reason they received a "C" is because the work, when completed, was done well.
    So, this is official notice to the owner that she no longer needs to duck into the house or behind the van when she sees me walking my dog. We get it.

    You really get what you pay for when it comes to cleaning companies.
    I've used a few different cleaning companies in the past, I had the same problems with all of them: they never showed up on time (sometimes arriving an hour and a half after my appointment), they never called to say they'd be late, they missed a lot of dust and frequently asked to use my supplies. I'd had it with all of that, but I knew my home needed a good deep cleaning before I had holiday guests, and I didn't have the time or the energy to do it all myself.
    Luckily, Angie's List directed me to Islander Home And Pet Care. I called and left a message, and 6 minutes later, Lori called me back. I consider it a good sign when the business owner is involved enough in the day-to-day operations to personally speak with customers. I had a tight schedule and needed them the following day, so she made me an appointment for first thing in the morning. The price she quoted me was higher than I was used to paying, but I already had a much better feeling about them than I'd ever had about the others.
    The next morning, I got a call from one of the employees to say there was unusually heavy traffic and they might be just the tiniest bit late. Like, 5 minutes at most. Color me impressed for being on top of things, particularly when they arrived a little early instead.
    The two workers were super efficient and extremely thorough, not to mention very friendly and professional. They addressed me as "ma'am"--I'm not used to that, but I'm certainly not complaining--and they brought everything with them that they needed to get my apartment sparkling clean, including a checklist that showed everything included with a standard cleaning and the "a la carte" items I can request for an additional fee.
    Let's review: other companies came late, didn't call to let me know, missed dust, and didn't come prepared. Islander was punctual, called when they thought they might be late, cleaned everything, and had all their bases covered. What's not to love?
    Yes, I paid more than other companies charge, BUT I definitely got my money's worth. I won't hesitate to call on them again in the future.

    They started off really great, but once they became accustomed they got more lazy and they would send like five women to do it and they would get it done in under 40 minutes. I have a really big home and they just weren't doing a good job so I had fired them.
