Very attentive to what we wanted. Used her creative skill to give us a variety of options. Sharon was very focused on the details and helped us with other parts of our project to ensure the mosaic had the largest impact

    SEARS HOME IMPROVEMENT PRODUCTS
The shower project from ****! Can you image taking over five months and $5600 to purchase and install a new shower. We are talking shower, not new bathroom or kitchen, just one simple shower. Sears Home Improvements promised a 1-3 day install that ran for over five months. It took three sets of contractors, three reorder of parts and literally scores of phone calls to the Sears Home Improvements Office in Charlotte in get the job done. Two of the Sears techs measured incorrectly, and two others messed up the installation. My initial decision to use Sears over local, much cheaper tradesmen was based on their 1-3 days for installation, and complete customer satisfaction. Forget the 1-3 days, it was over five months, with half of that time having the shower out of commission and unusable. As far as customer satisfaction is concerned, Sears didn't give a hoot about my concerns, frustrations or numerous requests to get informed of the status of the project. Oh, did mention the black flies that came into my bathroom and house because the first set of installers failed to seal the drain leading to the septic tank. I don't know which was worse, the ineptness of the project install people or the total lack of any pretense of keeping me in the loop during the needless delays. You would think Sears values their corporate reputation enough to at least keep the customers that have supported them for decades happy. Sears used to be my go-to source for automotive repair, appliance service and repair, and numerous other consumer needs. That horrible experience has changed any thoughts I might have of purchasing anything from Sears in the future. Sad but true.

    Daniel Builders, Inc.
Talked to them and from the beginning, though polite, he was very condescending. Started off with saying they only do big jobs and then repeated that often. I felt thoroughly insulted. He also mentioned that we must let them design. However, the pictures they show in their gallery dont appeal to me at all. Very ordinary. I brought this up at a luncheon today and 1 person had had the same experience with them and another said her sister had, too. So if budget is unlimited, youll settle for ordinary, and you are thick-skinned, call Daniel. Perhaps they can work on their presentation.

I think they were very good. The guy came out and measured and told me what they would be doing. They set up a time to come back to do the work. I love my kitchen coutertops. I like my kitchen. I would use them again. They did a wonderful job. They absolutely left nothing. The guys were very nice, very conscientious of your house. They took care like it was their own house.

I did hire Bradley Construction to complete the project that another provider didn't finish, and then I had them do some other work as well. Fortunately, I was able to collect from that other provider for the part of the job that they didn't finish. I got reimbursed. They're A all the way down the line except for price. The price I would say a B, because they are a little pricey.

    Upstate Remodel

Even though the weather and unexpected issues (This is an old house where the unexpected problems may arise when renovating.) caused some delays , Daniel of Upstate Remodel, did a great job.  He and David are perfectionists in every task they undertake.

The stairwell job has transformed a regular stairwell into a pretty area.  David made chair rails with "shadow boxes" below which really "dressed up" a merely utilitarian space. In addition they repainted the area. Again, the precision of his work is remarkable.

Daniel encountered several problems with the bathroom cabinet and the kitchen but persevered with painstaking excellence.  The installers for the granite countertops who were recommended by Upstate Remodel were very prompt and did a beautiful job in the kitchen and the bath.  The appliance garage on the kitchen counter had to be practically rebuilt by Daniel, but again his desire for perfection resulted in a finished product that the average person would never guess had been a problem.  The ceramic backsplash which I requested be tiled in the "diamond"  pattern is perfect.  Again there were issues that required some thought and careful decision, but the result is exactly as I had pictured.

My husband and I highly recommend David or Daniel for any job for which they would contract.  We definitely will use them for any further work we have done.  We are seniors who were impressed with their professionalism as well as their pleasant and engaging personalities.  We found them very courteous and respectful.  Both are men of integrity who were and still are welcome in our home as family.

The cost paid ($3,247.26) does not include the cost of the granite and granite installation or the cost of the ceramic tile.

Also, this amount does not include a  gratuity for their outstanding work and their success in completing the work by our deadline.

    Willy's Tile
I hope I do justice in writing about our experience with Willy's Tile. We have done other home renovations over the years and none were as satisfying as our experience with Willy's Tile. This was a fairly big project. Our master bath was completely renovated. All the old fixtures, cabinets, countertop, and flooring were removed. We also redesigned the space, so significant changes were made in the room. Willy and his team were professional, polite, friendly, and well qualified to do the work. I had a "vision" for the space without the help of a designer and Willy worked with me to make it happen and actually his experience helped to improve the finer details. The tile work is beautiful. He designed a lovely niche in the shower for soap and shampoo. The details are truly a work of art. Every detail came together so well and in a timely manner. As in all renovations, there are hidden "surprises" like a section of floor that we were unaware that had water damage. Willy's philosophy is "THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS, ONLY SOLUTIONS" and it relieved anxiety when a few unforeseen issues arised. The project exceeded our expectations. All materials from the tear-down were hauled away. I cannot think of one negative remark. We expect to call on Willy's Tile to renovate another bath and put hardwood flooring in our living room space. I am sorry I did not know about him when we renovated our kitchen a few years ago. I am looking forward to working with him and the crew again in the near future. I highly recommend Willy's Tile and with great appreciation thank him for the amazing work he did in my home.

    Bradley Construction LLC
We had a difficult time getting the project manager and the insurance adjuster together to come to an agreement on a price for the insurance part of the project. Once we got that resolved, the project was started and was supposed to take three to four weeks. The quality of the work was good, but there were some delays and it closer to seven to eight weeks to complete to the point for us to produce a punch list. It took another three weeks to finish all of the punch list items during which time we held the last 10% until everything was complete.
The quality of the work was good and from that standpoint, we were pleased. The delayed schedule affected our ability to enjoy the lake this summer, but this is a second home so it's not like it was our primary residence and we didn't have somewhere to live.
My only suggestion to others would be to ensure that the schedule is not only spelled out and followed, but to make sure the project manager and main office are communicating with each other. There was some miscommunication between them during the punch list phase that resulted in some unnecessary discussions between us and one of the owners that left a bad taste in our mouth.

    Upstate Remodel
Upstate Remodel did a wonderful job on our house!  My wife and I had gotten several estimates from a few "flooring" companies to install new laminate hardwood floors in our house.  Let's just say all their estimates were rather outrageous for what we thought it should approximately be.  We decided to check out Angie's List and did a search for "flooring" in our area and Upstate Remodel ended up being on the top of the list.  Gave David a call.  He came out, was very professional, helpful and gave us an estimate for the job.  His estimate was very reasonable, specially for everything he said he was going to do.  The other quotes we got did not even come close.  David was great to work with.  He has a very friendly, funny personality and loves to joke around.
The original estimate for the job included:
Complete install of whole house laminate hardwood floors (including closets, excluding kitchen and bathrooms).
     - Picked up and delivered flooring from the store it was purchased at when it came in
     - Moved furniture as needed to accommodate us and the install
     - Pulled up and removed old carpet and carpet padding
     - Removed old broken-tile style ceramic tiling in foyer and around fireplace area (this was no easy task either!)
     - Removed old baseboards
     - Properly undercut door jambs
     - Inspected and fixed any sub-flooring noises
     - Installed new under-layment padding
     - Installed new laminate hardwood floor throughout house
     - Installed, nail-hole filled, and caulked new baseboards throughout
     - Installed new baseboard HVAC registers (customer purchased)
     - Installed low profile thresholds for bathrooms and kitchen
     - Installed proper exterior door thresholds
     - Moved furniture back after install was complete
     - Cleaned all installation/construction messes and hauled away all old materials and trash.
For all that, the price was unbelievable!
Once we picked out and purchased the floor we wanted, David picked it up and delivered it himself from the store once it came in.  We had approximately 1200 sq. ft. of flooring to be done and we knew that it was going to turn our house upside down for a bit, but that was to be expected.  Upstate Remodel did a great job at working with us and accommodating us as much as possible with anything to make the whole process more comfortable.  This was very true specially with my wife who has Multiple Sclerosis and has a difficult time with mobility.  David was more than willing to do anything to help accommodate her during the time the install was going on.  This alone showed extreme professionalism.
During the install not only was David very accommodating, but he was very detail oriented.  If you are looking for someone you can trust to "do things the right way" and not cut-corners, then you definitely need to call Upstate Remodel.  David has a personality like mine so I was instantly put at ease knowing that I could trust him to do things right and perfect.  I am the type of person who is a bit OCD and can't stand knowing when something is just not right.  David's work ethic is exactly like this.  He will not do something unless it is done right.  He explained that this is one of the reasons he pulls baseboards and undercuts the door jambs, instead of doing a half-effort job and cut the floor around the jambs and just throw down quarter-round moldings on top of the existing baseboards.  I agreed totally with him and think that looks cheap.
On top of all that, David even took some extra steps to help us out with the little detailed things that he didn't even have to do.  For example, during conversation we mentioned recently we had our HVAC replaced, so he took the initiative to tape up the gaps around the HVAC register ducts in every room.  This was not part of the estimate, but since the flooring was up, he went ahead and took care of it for us.
I honestly would say that for the price and the time it took for the job, it was more than worth it and you could not find a better deal anywhere in the upstate area.  Our house has a completely new look on the inside.  My wife and I are extremely happy with all aspects of the install and the finished product.  The biggest difference in choosing to go with David from Upstate Remodel versus a big "flooring" company is that he is his own independent contractor and his business relies on his reputation.  It is very easy to see the difference in quality too.  A big flooring company will send out employees who work for the company and not care much about the quality of the job. We were very appreciative of the great quality that David puts into his work.
We will definitely be calling David back again in the future for any other work we have done on our house.  We totally recommend David for any high quality work you need done on your home.  We couldn't be happier with what Upstate Remodel did.

    D & K Maintenance
He is really good.  He is reasonable and he works hard.  He comes in full force and ready to do it.  Overall, it is going good. He is at the point where he can't do anything because I have painters painting right now. Everything that he has put back together has worked with no problem.  He is hands-on and each day that he comes, he gives the daily update of what will take place and how he's going to do it.  He cleans up each day and his equipment is out of the way.  In a couple of days he took the toilets out. He didn't bother me unless he had a question. He is at my beck and call. He is very punctual.
