Tile Installation reviews in Portsmouth

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • At the end of June I started looking for a backsplash installer. It was very difficult to find somebody to do the job. Some contractors look at the job and took them forever to send a quote back. Others told me there were too busy, so I would need to wait months to get the job done. There was even a group of contractors from RI; they told me that they do not perform services that far away (Portsmouth, RI)!!! Kevin looked at the job and gave me a reasonable free quote quickly. He admitted that the job was not a big one, but that he will be able to squeeze me in within two weeks. About a couple of weeks later when he called to confirm the time, and my wife and I had just decided to change the type of grout to stain resistant. I explained to Kevin the situation and that it would take a week to receive the order. He told me that would not be a problem; he just wanted to make sure to do the job within the time he promised to us. Finally, we get the grout and set a time, Kevin sends his son Tyler to do the job. Tyler was very respectful and professional and not afraid to let me know my options as he was doing the job. For example there was an area that was going to be tile that did not work with the mosaic tile that we had, so our choice was either to leave it blank or buy three more pencils which would take a week to receive them. Tyler had the entire tile install in less than a day and a half and left it all ready to install the missing pencils, grout and sealer. A week later when he came back to finish the job we show him some tiles in the mosaic tile that were cracked and without a second though Tyler pop them all out and replace them before finishing the parts of the job he was planning to do which took him less than a half day. This level of attention to detail and customer service is something that is sorely missed from a lot of contractors today. The next time I am looking for a contractor, I will make sure I called RWL General Contractors first.

  • Hiring KCCNE was the smartest thing I have ever done as a homeowner. These people are the best contractors I have ever worked with and best of all they do it ALL! There were no delays with subcontractors so the impeccable quality of our kitchen redo was actually done BEFORE the projected finish date! When does that ever happen with a home improvement project? Our spectacular new kitchen was the ultimate selling point when we sold the house a year later. Our home sold within a week and ABOVE our asking price! Don’t even THINK of going with anyone else, KCCNE are the best!!!

  • When I originally contacted A2Z in the fall of 2014, Rich told me that they were pretty well booked up but he expected to be available in 2015. I had almost forgotten but true to his word, Rich called in December and we got together to discuss the project. After looking everything over, and having a designer go over my wants, he gave me an estimate and said he thought they could get started in March. I was pleasantly surprised to find out later that they could begin the work in early February.
Rich was very accommodating in terms of scheduling and after reviewing vanity and counter top choices, I had to visit a local tile store to select and purchase the floor tiles. I also had to select and provide the new lights and fixtures. Not a problem; this approach allowed me complete freedom to select these items.
Work began on precisely the day we agreed upon. Because of the heavy snow this year, the company had to plow an area so that their workers could park off street. This completely floored me but was greatly appreciated.  Work proceeded nearly without incident. To install the replacement exhaust fan in the powder room, they had to take down part of the ceiling; the ducting had been damaged by birds and needed to be replaced. After doing the work, patching, and painting, you would never know that anything was done...except that the new fan now works.
The only real issue that arose happened when the wrong vanity came in for the full bath. That resulted in a delay of about a week. But once in and installed, the result was worth the wait.
Overall, the results have been great. The workmanship is top notch. The new kitchen storage looks like its always been there and matches the rest of the cabinetry perfectly. The same applies to the powder room and full bath, too. They even had to relocate some of the electrical boxes and you would never know that the work had been done. And while it is a small thing, the daily cleanup made a difficult situation tolerable.
Rich checked frequently to make certain I was happy. I would not  hesitate to recommend A2Z .

  • Rich was part of the planning, architect, purchasing of all materials, demolition of old bathroom, sub-contracted electric and pluming, and completed all woodwork, tilling, plastering, painting etc.  He provided updates daily, keep the entire project under budget, and was very punctual and professional.  my wife was so impressed she joked that we should hire him to do our house cleaning, as the bathroom construction site was cleaner than remainder of house.  I would recommend him for any small or large renovation projects.

  • Yanni is the best tile installer.  End of story.  He works for you, not a company.  You pick the title and buy it where ever you like.  Please take his suggestions, he knows Everything there is to know about tile and how and where to instal it.  He has 40+ years in the business and it shows.
I brought him over when the bathrooms were framed unfinished lumber.  That was my mistake, I should have called him sooner.  He had to fix the walls because they were not level or plumb.  He also made the floors level, he did this by a 3 part process.  First he determined where the problems were in my existing floor.  then he installed a plywood base with wire mesh and cement, then a thinset (it was more than that, I'm not giving up his secret recipe).  The floor was very crooked.  He didn't think just using a cement board would fix the problem.  Believe me those floors are now perfect.  Solid.
We knew basically what we wanted.  Marble mosic on the floors with a white subway tile on bath walls.
He knew where to buy them.  Because not all subway tile are created equal.  Some places sell substandard tile, or have crappy brands. But can still have some good tile as well.  He has installed every type & kinds that exists.  Listen to his advice, dont take it personally if he tells you what your thinking is wrong.  He is looking out for you.
We had 3 bathrooms done and were waiting for a basket weave marble mosic for the last room but could not find one.  We ordered 3 others and they "did not run right".  They did not fit together when placed on floor.  Some gapes were too big or small.  Or the color was not what we ordered.
He laid out the entire floor before starting to instal it.  That was huge!! Those floors would have been uneven/ not straight had he not checked before the instal.  We are talking about $25/sq ft tile....yes ridiculiously expensive, and it was junk. (Best Tile)
I could go on and on, but Yanni is the best.  Honest, Trustworthy and an overall great guy.
    Why doesn't he have reviews??
He has been working for contractors in Little Compton for like 15 years building unbelievable bathrooms.
So if you want your bathroom tile done right, call Yanni.  He's busy, but well worth the wait.
Pricing??  He will give you an estimate and he will stick to it.
You save on tile as he is not making anything on it nor is he trying to upsell you to buy stuff you don't need.
He works for you, He takes pride in his work.
You will be glad you hired Yanni.

  • I reached out to 3N1 by email late one evening.  The next morning I got a phone call from Gerald.  He was incredibly helpful over the phone and provided me with a thorough explanation of the services he could provide to us.  We closed on our new home on 8/22/14 and contacted Gerald to see if he could come out and provide us with a quote to clean our floor tiles.
He arrived on time, gave us a fantastic demonstration of the tile cleaning/grout sealing process.  We were so in awe of the results we immediately asked him if he could take care of our home (previous owners had to large dogs and the tile floors were in bad shape).
The difficulty is that we reached out to Gerald very last minute.  Our furniture was being delivered on Monday, 8/25/14 and we wanted the tile sealed and the grout painted before the movers arrived.
Gerald was so accommodating.  He brought in his crew on Sunday, 8/24/14 at 8AM to make sure the work could get done in time to meet our 8/25/14 deadline.  He was early, extremely professional, and by the time he and his crew left in the late afternoon all of the tile in our home (1990 sq ft) looked incredible.  In addition, he also buffed our granite countertops in our kitchen, as well as in our Master Bathroom at No Charge!  Attached is a picture that shows the tile/grout before (top of the photo) and the after (lower portion of the photo).
A few days later we received a personal handwritten note from Gerald thanking us for the business and a Starbuck's gift card.  His professionalism and customer service skills are very rare and hard to find.  He truly has a heart for his customers and goes above and beyond to meet and exceed their expectations.
We would highly recommend 3N1 Services.  This is a company owned by a man who displays a tremendous amount of integrity and we are thankful for all that he did for us to move into our new home.

  • If you are looking for quality work and quality materials, Allied Floors is where to go. I cannot say enough about the crew with the countertops. From fabrication to installation, they are the best. We had another RI kitchen countertop supplier handle the pantry and we ran right back to Allied Floors for the laundry room. They are precise, prompt, friendly and neat. The price is middle range (had quotes higher and lower) but the quality is superior. The tile work in the kitchen was intricate and the tile installer was just as particular about the work as the countertop crew.

  • I COULDN'T HAVE CHOSEN A MORE CONSCIENTIOUS AND KNOWLEDGEABLE CONTRACTOR. RICH WAS ON HAND EVERYDAY WITH HIS EXPERIENCE SUBS.  RICH GUIDED ME THROUGH ALL THE PHASES OF OUR RMOLDING, AS THIS WAS NEW TO US.  YOU CAN'T GO WRONG BY HIRING A2Z RENOVATIONS TO DO ANY SMALL OR BIG JOBS.  I  RATE THIS COMPANY A 10 OUT OF 10.  I NOW CONSIDER RICH A FRIEND AND WOULD GLADLY HAVE HIM DO ANY FUTURE WORK THAT WE DO HAVE PLANNED..       MICHELLE POPE.

  • The overall experience was first rate. On time, on budget, professional and pleasant. No complaints AT ALL! Fabulous end product with which we are very happy. They offered advice along the way which was much appreciated.
Over the last couple of years we've had them do a number of smaller projects around the house (construction on the front porch and steps) and all were handled with the same professionalism. Their tag line is "no job too small" and they stand by that. Our mailbox collapsed and I called them to purchase a new post and install it a.s.a.p. They did it THAT day! Our mail man was happy, and so are we. I can't thank them enough.

  • I got in touch with Rich through his website and he promptly got back to me and we decided on a day for him to come over and talk about the things that i wanted to get done.  He was over on the day and time that he promised and spent about an hour with my wife and myself talking about what the project would entail.  The actual work was done by Justin Katz who I think did a great job.  He was on time, courteous, cleaned up after himself and was very professional....... and he took the time to answer my questions when i had them.  I think the work he did was very good and would ask to have him again as the carpenter working on my next project. Overall, i had a great experience with A2Z and would definitely use them again.
