Flooring reviews in Narragansett

Michael was asked to repair a section of hardwood flooring which had buckled due to water seeping into the subfloor. He proceeded to remove the damaged sections and install new flooring over a soaking wet subfloor without identifying the source of the leak. He submitted a bill of $1,000 which was promptly paid. Not long after the problem resurfaced and he was notified that the job had be done again but properly. He agreed that the leak had to be found and fixed. But he failed to return to fix the problem and needless to say kept the $1,000. A professional installer had to be called in to find the leak, repair it, and again install new flooring which is in perfect condition. Do not, I repeat, do not hire this company for any kind of hardwood repairs. This is as unethical and dishonest a contractor that I have ever met in my many years of maintaining properties and he should be avoided.

He arrived exactly on time, inspected the floor, and said that he could only determine whether the result I wanted was possible if he picked a section and tried his polishing techniques, which are quite time consuming. I knew a little about tile, and could tell by our conversation that he was both experienced, and knew what he was talking about. We agreed on a price for a finished job, assuming that it was possible to produce the effect I wanted. He worked for over an hour, and to both of our disappointments, when the floor dried after the polishing materials had been rinsed off, it appeared that the problem was not due to deposits, but a breakdown of the tile itself; something that could not have been known at the start of the project. It would require either a complete resurfacing, or replacement, neither of which he was prepared to do. As he had an hour and a half round trip to get here, plus an hour of work, I offered to pay him for his time. I was dumbfounded by his reply. No charge.
I have hired many dozens of craftsmen over the years, and this was the first time anyone had ever told me that because he wouldn't be able to produce the result I wanted, through no fault of his own, but faults in old materials, that there would be no charge. This reflects a pride of craftsmanship that is almost unheard of today. I only wish I had other jobs for him to do--I love to see skilled people in action.

He did a great job.  They came when they were supposed to and completed the job quickly.  The only issue was that there were several spots that my 16yo dog had peed on.  Those spots came out darker than the rest of the floor.  If I had known that would happen I would have asked if there was any way to make that look better (darker stain color?).  I'm actually looking into doing the rest of the house and will call again.

The work was performed to a very high standard.  Rawlings has a excellent reputation and I found them to be professional, reliable and punctual.  The price was what you'd expect to pay for a quality product and installation.

Sean when we first met seemed very knowledgeable and interested in the work I was looking to complete. The stairs he had several repair solutions that made sense and he did not think this was a big issue. He never even started on this project. The porch I thought was a small repair issue but he pointed out several problems and the more we reviewed it together he pointed out several substancial support issues that needed to be addressed. Basically there was substancial rotting related to the main supports of the porch. He mentioned this would be difficult to give a hard price on until he started the work and uncovered the exact issues. He mentioned he would start the work, save all the receipts for material and I would pay for labor and material as the project progressed. He felt the entire repair of the porch would be in the neighborhood of $2500. We signed an agreement and I gave him a deposit of $1000. He started off working partial days of about 2 or 3 days a week for about 2 weeks and from that point on was there very sporadically. Through all of this we were in contact by cell on a regular basis. I became concerned about the progress being made and after an onsite meeting hje requested a 2nd check of $1500. and said he would be completed in about 6 days and would complete the work  by the following week. To the best of knowledge he never returned to the house again. I have contacted he several times and there is always a story and an excuse. Going into the 4th month of this I have contacted another contractor to complete this work and correct the majority of the work the Sean has performed. I could not recommned using him for any future work and feel for all intent and purpose I feel he has stolen $2500. from myself and my family. I will continue to monitor this site to see if he responds to this review of his services and I will respond to anything he wishes to add. I am also going to include several emails I exchanged with him in an attempt to urge him to complete the work he was paid to do. PLEASE BE AWARE OF WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME.
Joseph Doorley10/17/2014I understand you are busy and have other projects scheduled. I also am aware you have a knee issue which I hope works out for the best. I felt we had a good conversation this week related to the work at my house and I think we were both comfortable with that. Realizing you have other commitments besides the project at my house I am looking at a time frame to complete the porch and the other work at my house? We had discussed about 6 days I believe? All low key and low stress but time frame wise what would you think is a reasonable time frame? I did not want to bother you twice in a week especially if you are recovering. Please enjoy your weekend.
Joseph Doorley11/4/2014Sean, I am concerned at this point about completing the work at my Cranston house. The porch was just one of several jobs we looked at and discussed. You cashed a $1000. check on 9/16 and a $1500. on 9/29, these checks were related to the porch repairs. Using these dates it puts the time frame for this project at 8 weeks/2 months. I realize you have other work going on but to be perfectly honest with you I am embarrassed in front of my tenants and neighbors at the amount of time it has taken to complete just the porch work. The last time I went by the house was Friday and the work while continuing was not complete. I mean all of this in the most low stress, respectful way possible but if you were in my shoes right now I believe you would also be concerned. I am going to take a ride up to the house this Thursday and if I have not heard from you by then I will give you a call. At this point especially related to the weather I am very concerned about completing this work in a timely manner. From a contractors stand point I don't know why a job would be dragged out this long. Please give me a call when you have a moment.
Joseph Doorley11/16/2014Per our discussion of two weeks ago it was my impression the porch would have been completed last week. It is my impression you were on the site one day last week and the porch is not complete. At this point weather wise I would say any power washing/painting is not able to be completed at this point. So that I would say is now officially off the list. I would very much like to complete the porch before the end of the year. Right now I am very concerned that that will happen. In the most respectful way possible I am losing confidence in you and the ability to complete this job. The interior stairs are an insurance issue and if that is not going to be addressed I need to begin the process of finding a new contractor? I left you a voice mail Friday and will continue to contact you through out the week. Please feel free to give me a call. We are now heading towards 4 months to complete this work. All low stress but I don't understand why you would not just stay on the site and complete the work? Feel free to contact me related to any issues or comments.
Joseph Doorley11/25/2014Sean, did you take a permit out for the porch project? I will call you this week but at this point I believe you have no interest in completing this job and I need to know if a permit has been taken out so I can resolve that issue. I don't care if you have taken out a permit but if you have it is an issue I need to address. I am not mad but I am disappointed with this whole adventure. You have my cell and could call me if you wish.
I am beginning the process of getting estimates for the other work we discussed at the house just so I can get it done.
    enjoy your Holiday.
Joseph Doorley11/29/2014Sean/Mike at this point I can only presume you abandoned the porch project at my home in Cranston. At this point this project is moving into it's 4th month with no end in sight. I have begun the process of getting estimates from other contractors to complete/redo the work you have started and never returned to complete. If you wish to resolve this situation please feel free to contact me I would be willing to work with you.
There appear to be numerous issues to the work you have done from the height of railings to the actual structural work itself, etc.
As it stands now I feel that the $2500. I have given you already has been misspent and I am due at a minimum a refund of a part of these monies. If I do not here from you by the end of the week I am going to contact Angie's list directly related to your work, I will also post a review of your work to date on the porch project with pictures in an effort to protect others from your business practices. I am also going to contact the Department of Labor and Training and other associated state agencies concerning what has happened at my property.
At this point it appears you have basically stolen $2500. from me and all your work is going to have to be redone. Please contact me if you feel any of this is unfair and you wish to work this out. Personally I feel you should be ashamed of your self related to your performance on this project.
If you do ever return to this project please do not do so until you contact me first. I would also like to see the receipts for materials you had said I would receive.
Joseph Doorley11/29/2014additionally you mention you are bonded, I would like your bonding company please.

As it always has with Massud, the job went very well. The hardwood floors were installed in a very professional job and look beautiful. The installers took care with detail and I couldn't be happier with the result. I've used Massud 3 different times now and to this point they have dealt with almost all of the floors in my home. I highly recommend using Massud for any flooring needs.

I'm thrilled with the result of the job! The workers were very professional and were very thorough and fastidious in doing their job. They stripped the original finish which turned out to be a more difficult job than anticipated but they made sure that the job was done right. They also made sure that the floors were vacuumed well before applying each coat. I was also amazed that the sanding procedure really is dustless!!
The floors now look absolutely beautiful!!! I had used Massud Flooring previously for installing a new hardwood floor and, as that had gone very well, I used them again for this job. I wasn't disappointed as they again did a great job and I will contact them in the future for any flooring-related job that I have.

I am very, very happy with my experience with Massud installing a hardwood floor in my 300 sq. ft. living room. The installation went very well and the product supplied is of excellent quality. Massud's installers were punctual and professional. The standard of their work is excellent. I particularly liked that they paid attention to detail including dealing with a fireplace stonework pattern that is irregular on the floor and with the doorways and baseboard heating units.
I will certainly contact Massud for the other flooring jobs that I have. Thanks Paul, Jake, Brendan and Norm.

Great job completed in the time frame I needed to have it completed. I've been dealing with Visual Improvements for many years and he renovated my rental properties always to my satisfaction, he also has done roofs on five of my houses. Quality work at a reasonable price.

We used Kitchen's Direct to design our kitchen, and they recommended RWTM to install it. We have a post and beam home, so there are additional challenges. The installed cabinets, tile floor in the kitchen and adjacent bathroom. They completed the work within the time estimate, were respectful and friendly, and most importantly, did excellent fine carpentry (crown molding above the cabinets, molding around the bottom edges of the cabinets). We were able to have them do a bathroom remodel and some roofing in 2011, again with excellent results.
