    PLM Home Improvement
After interviewing several local contractors for over a year I finally turned to Angie's list and found PLM home improvement. From the minute Pete Medeiros entered my home I immediately knew that he was the contractor to do the job. Pete is a professional. He is an extremely talented craftsman and visionary. He listened to my needs and went beyond my expectations. What began as a renovation to make my life easier as I get older by upgrading my bathroom with walk in shower and comfort height toilet and placing the laundry room on the first floor turned into a whole house remodel and I am so delighted. Pete found a solution to any problem that arose. Pete and his workers are talented, respectful, and meticulous. They take pride in their work and are very hard workers. In a world where customer service is lacking I believe good customer service is the number one priority for Pete. When friends and family visit my home now they are amazed at the transformation and the high quality and craftmanship of work. Pete turned my 1960s home into a 21st century home! I am completely satisfied with his work and I would highly recommend PLM home improvement, Pete Medeiros for any of your home needs.

Very good work. Here every day. Responsive to questions and concerns. When designer mismeasured the build-in cabinet to clear stairway landing, he worked a plan with the designer to partially disassemble the cabinet and reassemble in bathroom with no indication it had been done.

Kitchen & Countertop Center Of New England
Kitchen and Countertop Center of New England is amazing. Anyone can renovate when things run smoothly, but the true test of a reputable company is their response when questions arise. KCCNE was always available, and the response time wasnt in days or even hours, but rather often minutes of our questions. The end result is just beautiful and every day were thankful we chose KCCNE for our renovation.

    CC Woodcrafters of New England
We are thrilled with the beautiful results and are very happy to give them our highest recommendation. Charlie met with us several times and was very patient as we tried to decide what to do. He was very helpful about making modifications so that the project would fit within our budget. The team that did the installation was great--very professional. It was very easy to have them in our home. We would definitely use CC Woodcrafters again and would recommend them to our friends.

Rich and his company did a exceptional job from start to finish, he taped off entire area to insure no dust or debris found its way into my home during demo faze.  He kept me in the loop regarding any problems that arose electrical, plumbing. Rich and crew were very punctual and neat, they cleaned up after themselves everyday before leaving. Rich was very responsive to my concerns regarding time frame from start to finish, was there every day that he said he would be and gave me every bit of his attention when needed.  Installed new cabinets and counter tops as well as 2 kitchen windows and replaced trim where needed, would strongly recommend him to any new clients that may ask for a reliable contractor.

    Herb Travis Handyman Services
Because the shower was original to the house, it was a nonstandard size. the floor was sagging, and there was mold damage. Herb was honest about what needed to be done, and tried to keep my costs down when he could. He ran into trouble finding a new shower stall to fit the space and ended up making adjustments to the plumbing to accommodate the new shower.   It took longer than expected, but Herb stayed with the job until it was done. The result was clean and attractive and functional.  I had just rebuilt the bathroom because of a devastating leak and mold damage. If I had known Herb at the time I would have hired him to do everything. He is a real pro, does a beautiful job and is worth every penny.

Owner was timely with appointment and detailed estimate. Provided suggestions based on my description of how I would be using the room. They were professional throughout the project. They were at the job every day until the room was completed. They listened to my concerns and, although they made suggestion
(often saving me money), they never tried to sway my opinion. the subcontractor worked well with the crew.

I contracted Denis to install new windows and vinyl side my home.  He installed the windows in July, left them without trim or caulking and didn't come back until January.  I called him numerous times between July and January (without response).  Finally he called me back and was ready to complete the job after the new year.  He didn't show up every day and when he did, never worked a full day.  Once he had his son "working" in the morning, Denis arrived around lunch.  They ate lunch in my driveway and left for the day.  The products used were very low quality and the work he did was very poor.  When I would call something to his attention that was not done properly, he would clearly get upset and ensue a real attitude.  He subcontracted the gutter replacement and was not there when the job was completed.  It was done incorrectly per our contract and Denis acted as though I was making a big deal about it.
The siding was very shabbily done, the windows were left un-caulked.  He also agreed to install a storm door for me.  When the job was near the end, he told me he didn't have time to do the install.  He would call someone he knew and ask if they would do it instead.  I refused.  I waited long enough for this job to be complete and it was part of the agrement to put in the new door.  He did it, however, as the job was being completed he was extremely upset and vocal using profanity.  Denis is extremely unprofessional and not good at what he does.  I would never hire him again. and wouldn't suggest anyone else does either.

    Giroux General Contractor
This experience started off well, but turned into a nightmare. Not only was the work on the fireplace unsafe and done illegally, but even the carpentry was unsatisfactory. Giroux used intimidation to grossly overcharge for work not even done. I filed complaints with the BBB and finally with the RI Board of Contractors, who told me there are FIVE other complaints against him at this time.
I hired Girous in October to do the carpentry work. A week or so in, Giroux offered to manage the subcontracting of the gas work to a fireplace specialist, including installation charges and a new gas line. This work was delayed numerous times and each time Giroux cited some difficulty and asked for more money to fix the ?problem?.   He became increasingly more difficult. By March, after I had complained and called several times, Giroux finally left me a phone message that the work was ?completed.? However, the fireplace didn?t work at all, and it was clear he had never actually called a fireplace specialist, and had never had his work inspected.    I paid $200 for a consultation with Joe Briggs of Briggs Family Fireplace. Briggs found there was no carbon monoxide filter installed. There were inadequate sealants and questionable venting. He also thought the unit might need to be reconverted to natural gas. Briggs advised me to tear down the wall to make sure the venting was up to code because as is, the fireplace was too dangerous to run.
I was grossly overcharged. Our written contract specified $1750 to build out an existing wall to hold a two-sided gas fireplace, and for designing/installing two storage drawers and a shelf in the wall under the fireplace, and removing and replacing existing doorway moldings,  crown moldings, and thresholds.   Giroux additionally asked for a total of  $2500 for the fireplace installation and ?utilities,? which included running a new gas line and  an electrical line.  (No electrical line was needed and it was not installed.) I later got quotes from Briggs Family Fireplace and the Gas Doctor who each quoted $500 to install a fireplace unit and another $350 to install a new gas line, totaling only $850 TOTAL for the installation.
I'm embarrassed to say I was unable to stand up to him. Each time I complained because the work was delayed, Giroux got angry and added additional costs, asking for money for more materials or to pay helpers. He never showed me the receipts I asked for.  One night, he waited in my dark living room, while my daughter locked herself in her bedroom, and refused to leave until I gave him more money. Obviously, I acted like a victim because I gave it to him, telling myself I'd go to small claims court to get it back. In total, I paid $4100 for the carpentry and fireplace installation, which should have cost much less.
The work was not completed as agreed.  He put the fireplace too low to leave room for the shelf, which was never built. The storage drawers consisted of rough wooden boxes set into unfinished holes cut directly into the sheetrock. Nothing was finished or built to last, it is ugly, and it is certainly not the fine carpentry job I?d been led to expect.
All three replacement thresholds are too narrow, one is built-up so high that people trip over it, (it should have been a reducing threshold) and the third should have been a flat-lying T-connector.   Baseboards were installed, in one place leaving a hole exposed in the floor. The crown moldings we?d agreed on were never installed.
The work took way too long. Giroux began in October 2011 and estimated completion before Thanksgiving. He didn?t ?finish? until March, when he left a message saying the fireplace was 'fine'. It didn't even turn on! I called in a specialist and found the fireplace installation was so unsafe we risked our lives if we turned it on. Now the fireplace wall needs to be taken apart so that the gas lines and venting and pipes and installation can be inspected and probably replaced.
This has been a nightmare. He started off doing a small job, installing solar tubes, which went well and he cleaned up beautifully. He began the work on the wall and had it framed within a week. Then something happened. He became unavailable and increasingly surly and difficult, with endless excuses. When challenged, he was defensive and then nasty. I began to feel threatened, my daughter was afraid of him, and I eventually knew I was being taken advantage of, but somehow still believed his promises to do a good job in the end.   It is embarrassing to admit how badly he fooled me and for how long he took advantage of me, and even worse to admit how much I paid him, even when I knew better. Hopefully, this complaint will keep others from being his next victim.u,
