    George called about 15 minutes ahead of time. Arrived on time and got right to work. He was able to diagnose the issue very quickly and confirmed that the igniter for the bake function was in fact not heating. He was able to replace the part and confirm that the part was functioning correctly. He then tested all of the functions of the range and confirmed that everything was in working order. He was also very good about explaining what he was doing and why he was doing it so if I ever felt the urge to do some DIY, I might actually have a chance of pulling it off!

    A to Z Quality Electric
    I called A to Z yesterday for an estimate and described the work to the owner, Jim.  Based on what I told him, he estimated $350 to $400.  That seemed a little high, but I'd hired A to Z before and knew they did good work.  The big shock was when Jim said he could fit me in the next day - I expected a week to 10 days to get the work done.  So I agreed, and got the area ready for the electrician to do the work.  Kerry showed up on time, and had the 220 line installed, the 3-way switch fixed, and another minor item adjusted in under an hour and a half.  The next good surprise was the final bill was $245.00.
    A to Z does a great job, and Kerry is a hardworking professional.  When I need electrical work done in the future, I will definitely make the first call to A to Z.

    Gillece Services
    When the Gillece Tech showed up I told him the the A/C evaporator motor would freeze if it stopped on a dead spot and that the motor was still in warranty so how much would the labor cost me to replace the motor.  He wanted to take the unit apart and I would not let him since access to the motor was right on top and no need to take the complete unit apart.  He then asked how old my furnace was and I said what does that have to do with the A/C?  He didn't answer and did not touch the unit.  He said he did not have motor with him and would call the shop in Bridgeville to see if they had one in stock.  He went back to his truck to call the office and after 15 minutes of me waiting got out of his truck and said they had a motor and he would get it and be back.  I said how much would the labor be?  He told me the labor would be $800 plus the $95 for the service call.  I told him he was nuts if he thought I would end up paying almost $900 for labor that would take no more than an hour.  I told him I would not be ripped off by Gillece and to leave my property.  I ended up buying a motor myself online for $150.00 even though mine was in warranty.  I had it in 2 days and put it in myself.  Having never done that myself before it took me 1/2 hour.  My advice to anyone DO NOT USE GILLECE.

    He is absolutely outstanding. For my dryer, he found that a plug had come loose and he was able to plug it back in. Because it was so simple, he didn’t charge for the work. John is very thorough. He can do almost any type of work, including heating and air conditioning.  He really goes out of his way and has done everything that I have wanted him to do. I couldn’t recommend him high enough.

    Geek Squad - Best Buy
    We were wary of purchasing a new dishwasher with delivery and installation through Best Buy as there were several bad reviews posted online, but we had to do a quick replacement due to our old washer leaking all over our kitchen floor and at the time Best Buy had good sales as well as delivery/installation specials.  We went to the store directly in hopes of being able to see the dishwasher we were interested in and getting sales help for the whole process.  When we arrived, there were very few models to choose from at the store and we weren't sure what do to.  Quickly the appliance manager began assisting us.  He gathered our needs and preferences as well as our budget limits and made suggestions in order for us to narrow the field.  Once we decided upon a model, he walked us through the sale as well as scheduling delivery and installation.   Then we waited nervously...  The day before our scheduled installation, the delivery/installation person contacted us to arrange a time window.  The window he had was not specifically going to work for us but he was able to come a bit later with no problem at all.   Two gentlemen arrived at our home and with little difficulty were able to remove our old dishwasher and install the new one.  It appears to be working with no difficulty and we have run it once ourselves since yesterday.  Not sure why our experience was so different from some others listed online - possibly because we purchased/scheduled it directly through the store?

    I called the main number for Mr. Appliance first thing in the morning.  I think my call was answered by a non-local appointment setter/receptionist.  She took down all of my information, and then informed me that they did not have any available appointments for several days.  I had already taken that day off of work and I really wanted to get it fixed that day.  I told her I would call back.

    Approximately fifteen minutes later, a woman from the local store (Moore & Moore) in West View called me.  She told me that they had a cancellation and that a service person could be at my house within a few minutes.  She informed me that the service visit/estimate would cost $69 and would be applied towards any work done.  I agreed to the terms.

    James arrived at my home a few minutes later in his Mr. Appliance van.  He was clean cut and dressed in a professional service uniform.  He wore booties inside. 

    He spent about an hour working on my washer.  I had an extra-long non-manufacture drainage hose on my washer that had started to leak at the seal.  Luckily, I had kept the original hose or he would have had to order it and come back another day.  He moved the washer closer to the sink and changed the hoses.  He thoroughly tested for leaks before he left.  

    I paid with a credit card, signed on an iPad, and was immediately email a receipt.  My only complaint is that the receipt was not itemized.
     

    ***UPDATE*** I recently noticed that the green ground wire on the back of my washer had been cut and it was the wire that was used to secure the hose to the sink. I immediately call Mr. Appliance and spoke with a woman in their call center. She couldn't answer my questions regarding the ground wire. I requested that someone be at my home the following day at 2:00 pm the next day. Additionally, I requested not to be called in the morning because I would be at work.
    At 8:40 am the following day, Randi from the local office called me. I was able to answer the call and she claimed that she did receive my request not to be called in the morning.  She said that she had spoken to James.  He told her that he did not cut the ground wire that the wire was already being used to hold up the old hose.  The wire was not being used to hold up the drainage hose and the wire was originally attached to a piece of metal on a pipe on the wall behind the washer.  Randi stated that she could have someone come out and take a look at it that afternoon.  Around 4:00 pm, I received a call that a service person was on his way.

    Jason arrived a short time later.  He informed me that I do not need a ground wire on my washer, since it has a 3 prong plug.  The washer is close to ten years old.  However, it came with a three prong plug and a ground wire.  I assume there was a reason.  He said that he could install a new ground wire, if it would make feel better.  I decline because I did not have time for him to do it. 

    If in fact, I don?t really need a ground wire, I think that should have been explained to me before James ?recycled? the wire.

    Mullen Heating and Air Conditioning
    Our clothes dryer suddenly stopped working. The heat was OK but it was no longer spinning. We found John Mullen on Angie's List. My husband called him late in the day on a Thursday. John happened to be near our neighborhood and stopped over within about 30 minutes of the call. He checked the dryer,gave my husband a quote, and  took one of the parts so he knew what to buy. He came back on Saturday afternoon to make the repairs. Repairs took around two hours. In addition to the repairs he re-vented the dryer for us. John's quick turn-around time for doing the work prevented us from having to go to a laundromat. We will definitely call upon him again if needed.

    My service tech, James, was very polite and knew his stuff.  We even discussed whether I should replace the dryer, but he said that my Maytag Dependable Care dryer was a "great model"-- made when Maytag was Maytag.  He was here at the exact beginning of the appointment window, was very personable and only spent about 30 mins here.  I paid a more to have him provide/install the part, but I am not a do-it-yourselfer, so I was glad to get it done and get back to laundry!
