    Ron came out an was great. Very professional and personable, explained the process, showed me items of note, and gave great advice. He performed a cleaning, gave instruction on safe use (since we'd never used our fire place before), answered all my questions, and made some recommendations based on the state of the fireplace. Prior to the appointment I communicated with Stephen who was also very responsive and helpful. Seems like these are great guys to work with. I was really surprised when I was given an appointment time (not a window) and Ron showed up on time. Very positive experience overall.

    They were terrific. Their quote was thorough and detailed. We would have hired them if we have done the work, but we changed our minds and installed a pool instead. I hope to use them for something in the future, since I was impressed with their quote and presentation.

    Not Long ago I had a new roof installed (11/24/14) and Siding applied (2/5/15) to my house by Summit Roofing and Siding. I selected them based on the recommendations in Angie���s List. At the time it seemed like a quality job. However in June, 2017, the ceiling in my daughter���s closet collapsed and there was mold on what didn���t collapse in the ceiling. I called another company to inspect the roof for leaks. Their report said that the roof had numerous nail pops and the chimney cap was not installed properly and the siding around the chimney must be letting water in. Then my problem really started. After one of the brothers (Dan) came out (6/15/17) and went into the attic, and onto the roof to look for the leak, he told me ������yes there is a problem������. He told me he would talk to his brother (Sean) and call me within the next 2 days. He didn���t! In the next 2 weeks, after I called numerous times without any response from them, I sent an email (8/11/17) to Dan outlining what I wanted done to correct the problem. Sean called me the same day and said he was away, and would call me Sunday to set a date to come over to discuss the problem and inspect the roof. I was waiting for his call when he showed up at my door (8/17/17) to inspect the roof, saying he sent an email. I was on my way to a doctors appointment, so I told him my wife was home but he could call me on Friday (8/18/17) with the results. My wife told me later that he was up on the roof a long time banging on the roof. Then he left without talking to my wife. He hasn���t called me since he was here on 8/17/17 and I would like to know if he found the problem? Also, I would like to know what he did and what he is going to do to properly repair the chimney (capping & siding) and the roof, in addition to repairing the ceiling in my daughter���s closet Even though they advertize a 10 year workmanship warranty on installation, I can only give them an ���F��� rating.

    Lee and Dan were scheduled for a Sunday afternoon. They were punctual, professional and did an excellent job. We had a baby squirrel that kept coming down the chimney and getting into the house, but no more. The caps look very sturdy and are really very nice looking. Very happy!

    Tom and Ed O'Sullivan are very professional and does EXCELLENT work. A company you can trust. Needed a parts to get the pilot and fireplace going. Tom came back a few days later and did a great job. Took pictures of work in progress, emailed a detailed report after work was completed. I highly recommend Newtown Fireplace Shop!!!

    Chimneys Plus was very professional, friendly, clean and timely. I brought them out for a chimney sweep and inspection. After they were done they went over everything with me in detail. From what was OK and what needed attention. They gave me a quote right there for the work that I did need to have done which was very reasonable. I was also very confident that they would do the work correctly because of their knowledge of chimneys. The best part was I didn't feel pressured into making a decision right then and there which made me feel very good about my experience with them. I made my decision called them up and scheduled and I am extremely happy I did! They did an amazing job on my chimney it looks brand new! I am very impressed with chimneys plus and will continue to use them every year for a sweep and inspection. I highly recommend Chimneys Plus! In my book they are Chimneys A Plus!

    Kevin came out and was reasonably timely.

    He wasn't in the house long when the doom and gloom began. I wasn't surprised by the news of my wood fp. However he said he "couldn't clean the fp" because (and I paraphrase) that due to water getting inside the unit the insides were "sticky" and he required some kind of wet cleaner unit that he didn't have with him. He also told me that unit was never constructed properly when originally built.  Next the gas fp's.  He, literally, took one look at one unit and started with "it is not a direct vent unit and it was being vented and that the chimney vent was "not to code". I wrote down the code he referred to. Then he we looked at the other gas unit and he did the same thing, talking about it being a "direct vent unit" and how it wasn't direct vented.  This was from 4 feet away. He NEVER got on his knees, just took a peek inside the glass of the gas units!  I started to get a bad vibe... how could he know just by looking at it?!  I even said to him, would you like to see the actual vent on the one unit (he would not have even seen it had I not offered to show it to him) and he again begins spewing "not to code" etc.  I was shocked, as I know the guys who put this unit in and I knew they were working directly with the mfr when they installed the unit. As a matter of fact, I had the originally faxes (yes- that long ago) and I showed him where the mfr made notes to the installers.  I then pulled out the installation manual ,that I had saved, and began questioning him on exactly what did he mean by "direct vent" and exactly what was wrong.  He said many things but one was that the unit had to be vented "directly outside" - no piping.  That didn't seem to make sense.  The stuff he was touting as "not to code" was clearly listed in the manual as being able to be 'vented' and I showed it to him?!  Including various ways an installer could vent the unit...including x number of elbows, etc. Kevin then refused to fix my 2 gas units claiming it would be "unethical" to repair them when they "weren't to code".

    However, when he gave me the invoice, he made some brief notes on the amount of work my masonry fp would require and quoted the job.  I asked him for a more detailed report because of his comment about the unit never being built properly originally and I wanted to submit it to our insurance company and I knew they would require a much more detailed report than the hand written one he gave me onsite.  He stated he would "look further into" the gas units and follow up with a more detailed report on the masonry fp.   I called him twice and each time he promised a written report.  The second time he said it was mailed and I asked him to have it emailed to me - as I had given him my email address originally for that very purpose. Actually asked him to email it due to wanting to notify our insurance company asap. AS of this writing I have not rec'd any version of a detailed report as promised.


    BUYER BEWARE - I wish I had looked them up before I made the appointment. One review called them "the bad news cowboys" and that couldn't sum Aspen up more accurately! This was a complete and utter waste of money for the following reasons...

    1) He sold me a Level 2 inspection.

    2) He did not perform a Level 2 inspection - which by his own words - requires either a camera or a light with mirrors.  Nor did he bring a ladder with him to inspected my masonry chimney?

    3) He never cleaned the masonry fp because he said he did not have the proper equipment with him, yet I made it clear I wanted that unit cleaned when I made the appointment. He did not come prepared or offer to come back another time to do so.

    4) He never fixed my 2 gas fp claiming ethics.

    5)  We paid $169.55 for scare tactics and nothing else.


    How do I know they were scare tactics?  A few days later I called the mfr of my gas fp units and was given contact info for an authorized repair center.  A gentleman came out and got on his hands and knees and looked at the units, to some things apart and found that neither were working due to pilot "being dirty".   A simple cleaning and they were up and running flawlessly.  He went outside and saw both units and the exterior vents and/or chimney's in place and said both were done to code.  When I told him what Aspen had told us and cited the code (I had written down) he said "that code is for masonry units and NOT gas units"!!!  So much for being an expert!

    Just today, my husband got involved and called him and did not tell him his name but simply asked for him to describe what  Level 2 inspection was.  He clearly and concisely stated all that was involved... and all that he NEVER performed at our home!!!  When my husband told him who he was - obviously - he got very defensive - he was caught!!!  My husband told him he never performed this service to which he claimed that I only wanted a quote!  That is laughable as I didn't even know we had damage to need a quote - I called because I need our units inspected!!  He was trying to wiggle around his "not to code" comments, and my husband told him flat out what the other company saw and did and that he was wrong.  He got more and more agitated, and nasty and my husband hung up on him.  He actually called right back (while my husband was now on the phone talking to me) and left the following voicemail message (and I quote) "yeah - what's the matter, you can't take my phone call- because you are a coward, that's basically what it is" (in a whiny baby voice - attempting to mock my husband) "I'm not gonna say what I have to say - I'm gonna hang up and cry. You know what - You guys are gonna get nuthin from me, and  your a wife a freakin wackadoodle."   The interesting part of this whole message is that he admits "you guys are gonna get nuthin" ; admitting he never mailed or emailed the report he had twice claimed he had!

    One doesn't need to take just my word... google him and you'll find all the comments you need that will confirm our exact experience.  I just wish I had done it before I had made the appointment and wasted our money.

    So  - the moral of this story.  Aspen Chimney Services and it's Owner Kevin Kenney is out to scare homeowners and take their money under false pretenses of an "inspection" he never performs.  To boot, when called out on his tactics - he resorts to name calling and mocking - conducting himself with all the professionalism and integrity of an 8 year old bully.

    Our Freind and business owner recommended him to us.
    We have a special Timberland fireplace furnace heater later which most chimney guys are not for familiar with.
    It was a relief to hear him say that he lived in Maine and he has worked on heater leaders like our.

    My husband and I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

    Service was scheduled promptly.  Sean called in advance to let me know that he would be here within 30 minutes.  Drop cloth was used and there was no dust or dirt associated with the chimney being swept.  Sean was very polite and professional.  E&E Chimney Sweeps lived up to its accurate and well-deserved reputation.

    I purchased firewood from Splitz Firewood and had it delivered. This is the first year I needed to buy wood, and I've heard that it's near impossible to find properly seasoned wood, especially this late in the year (I purchased in early November). Being new to firewood shopping I purchased a cord from each of 4 different vendors. Splitz was responsive and polite on the phone, they delivered quickly, and were polite in person.
    With that said, they were a distant 4th in my comparison of 4 vendors, mainly due to the quality of the wood delivered. They said that the wood was split in the spring and has been drying/seasoning since then. While I can't prove that wrong, I split a number of pieces that they delivered and measured the moisture content. The moisture content readings averaged in the mid- to upper-30's, which was the same as the fresh hardwood I had cut and stacked just the week before. Other vendors seemed to be more honest with how seasoned their wood was, and having bought from 4 vendors and the wood from Splitz was the only vendor to deliver wood with moisture content that measured in the 30's. Another problem with the wood is that a lot of the pieces were covered with a gray mud, and I mean covered. I put that wood aside and stacked almost a face cord of it. I left it uncovered, and so far the rain hasn't cleaned it much, so in the spring i might have to power wash it so I can burn it next year.
    Their trailer is also in desperate need of repair. The wheel (or wheels?) on the left side seems to have locked up at a few points in my driveway and marred the seal coat of my driveway.
    I graded the price as "C" because at $210 they were average or competitive for a cord of wood being delivered which alone should earn a higher grade, but the quality of what I received for the price was poor enough to bring it down. Since quality is a separate grade I didn't put an "F" for price, just for quality.
