    Landmark Inspections LLC
Scott inspected a home for me that I had put in an offer on.  He was polite and extremely thorough.  He took 3 hours to inspect a 4-bedroom home--everything from the roof to the heating system.  He caught two significant problems; catching one of them saved me thousands of dollars because it had to be fixed by the owners instead of me.  I would enthusiastically recommend him to friends.

    Preferred Home Inspections
Clay Ridings from Preferred Home Inspections was referred to me by a colleague at work. I was able to contact him directly and had an appointment setup within a week. Clay was amazingly thorough. He inspected all aspects of the home, interior and exterior. His report was very comprehensive (about 25 pages for a 3 story Town home) and detailed all the concerns a buyer should be aware of. In our case, this included items as small as an improperly installed dishwasher drain pipe to larger concerns such as missing attic insulation and staining on the stucco exterior. He made recommendations to have the stucco further inspected and we did. Turns out that the building is in very good shape but there was one area that was damaged and needed repair. I was able to secure funding from the current home owner for that repair based on the work that Clay started with his inspection report. He did a fantastic job for us and I would not hesitate to use his services again in the future.

    Cogent Building Diagnostics
Frank and Alice were very easy to work with. I had to re-scedule multiple times due to items that needed to be resolved with the home owners association. Each and every time they were very accomodating and worked within my timeline to get the test done. The stucco evaluation is an invasive test, requiring drilling into the stucco to read moisture content. I'm happy to say that the testing was very thorough (including a 30 page summary report, with test results, test locations, bulding evaluation, general cost estimates for repairs, an overall opinion and interpretation of results). Having this test done provided peace of mind and discovered areas that needed repair. Very well done.

We wanted to know everything about this property before buying. I mean everything. And that's why we hired Alan Fastman and Helpful Home Inspectors. He did not disappoint. On a brutally hot July day, Alan clambered over roof lines, painstakingly inspected electrical panels and, on the side, offered a thorough course in the maintenance and tending of an old home. All told, he was on the job for a solid 10 hours, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Have I mentioned that there was no air conditioning? It was an impressive performance. It was more impressive still when, a day or two later, I asked him about a section of stone siding that he hadn't explored (perhaps the only part of a huge property he didn't check) and he dropped by the property to double-check the spot and ease my mind.
I'd heard through the realtor grapevine that Alan was a deal-killer. I can see why realtors might think so: he's incredibly thorough, honest, and he has a keen eye for a home's problems. But I found his advice on the day of the inspection and his report to be both rigorous and measured. He is thorough, not alarmist. And if he is alarmist, well, you'd do well to listen to him.
I've given him an A for price not because he is cheap. He is not. But he does offer genuine value. We paid a lot for these inspections. but I absolutely felt that we got our money's worth.
If you want a cursory inspection, Alan is not the guy for you. At all. But if you want to really understand a home before you buy it, you can't do better than Helpful Home Inspectors. Truly one of the better service experiences I've ever had.

Excellent service, was able to accompany the inspector through the inspection. Allen Fastman provided commentary and answered questions.  Very thorough; a 24 page report and a useful book on home maintenance provided.

    JMR Inspections
John was flexible in scheduling, prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable.  He was very understanding when we had to do some rescheduling.  He did the most thorough inspection, of the three house inspections we have had over the years.  He took relevant pictures for what turned out to be a very useful report to show areas of safety, maintenance, and possible future needs. He explained construction and mechanical matters as I accompanied him on the inspection.  After the inspection, he was a big help in formulating issues to be brought to the attention of the sellers.  I would highly recommend John and his excellent work to others.

Alan Fastman provided very good service. We were interested in buying an old house (56 year old) and wanted an inspection. We contacted Alan's company (Helpful Home Inspectors of Media PA) and they gave us an appointment within 3 days of my call.
He was at the site before appointed time. He climbed up the roof (very high and steep) and inspected it first. He then toured the whole house and pointed out 'material defects', safety concerns, repairs needed and issues that need monitoring. He pointed out a major issue arising due to the settling process which might end up costing more than 10K in repairs. This structural issue was hiding in plain sight (since we didn't know where to look) and we had never identified it during our several previous visits to the house with our realtor.
He brought to our attention several safety concerns like back drafting from the water heater and furnace which can lead to serious health hazards. He also pointed out issues like maintenance needed on external window sills and lintels all over the house. We are thoroughly satisfied with the inspection he did.
His colleague Tom Herbert from D-Tech Environmental Testing correctly identified tell-tale signs of previous termite and carpenter bee damage and the efforts done to mitigate the infestations. We were also very pleased with his services.
Overall, our home inspection experience was unquestionably the best in the entire house buying process.

    Advanced Mold Diagnostics Inc
After a painter suggested that I had a mold problem in my basement, I contacted Advanced Mold Diagnostics over the phone, based on the high ratings on Angie's List.  The owner came out three days later for an evaluation.  He pointed out that the problem was one of efflorescence affecting the paint, easily remedied by eventual repainting.  He then inspected the basement and foundation with exceptional thoroughness---high and low, and all the hidden corners---suggested the removal of a few things that might in the future attract mold (cardboard and certain woods), and informed me that I had no problem and that it would be a waste of my money to do any work.  When I asked him what I owed him for his inspection, he smiled and said, "For what?  I didn't do any work."  I was deeply impressed by his integrity, his high intelligence, and his professionalism.  In a world of so many contractors who make up work to be done, here is someone of absolute integrity.

We live in a 1959, split level home purchased 10 years ago with a roof
that is now 18 years old. We contacted Helpful Home Inspectors after
reading reviews in Angie's List.  What we were looking for was a
competent inspector who could give us an expert's opinion on whether or
not we needed to purchase a new roof right away or could maybe hold out a
little longer.  We also had a crack along ceiling and wall in the
dining room we wanted looked at.  To our delight, Mr. Fastman was
agreeable to doing this limited home inspection for a very reasonable
hourly fee.  In one hour he not only examined our roof but also looked
at our chimney and found substantially dangerous problem which he
documented in photos.  His thoroughness in examining the ceiling/wall
crack resulted in his looking at the entire outside wall structure of
the house, as well as going into the crawl space under our house to
further explore for any structural clues regarding the crack.  Before
the day was over, we had a full written report that my wife and I can
now reference regarding things we should probably do now (chimney),
things that can wait a while longer (roof) and things we really don't
need to worry about (crack in ceiling).  He is very knowledgeable, and
shares his knowledge by including in his visit ample reading material on
all aspects of house maintenance we can now use for current and future
reference.  He has appropriately named his service, Helpful Home
Inspectors.  I, like many of you reading this, am very cautious and
skeptical of getting excellent value from anyone connected to home
repair, etc.  Dealing with Mr. Fastman was a pleasure and a relief, and now I am also a
    fan of Angie's list

John has helped my wife and I tremendously over the last few months. He has shown himself to be very professional and has provided concise information and reports about the property we have seriously considered purchasing. We have used his services a fe w times now and on our recent home purchase just after a hurricane, John helped us again with an emergency booking to go through the house again on the day of closing, just a few short days after one of the worst storms in the area for long time. highly recommend John and have no issues in rating him highly and providing John's phone number to whomever requires a home inspection service.
