    American Home Handyman
Our original, flat, aluminum front porch awning was seriously weather-damaged from ice. Having dealt with them several times before and having been happy with their work, we called the men from American Home Handyman. They worked up the estimate and we were ok with the price. But when they tried to order a replacement, they discovered that particular awning was no longer made, and any kind of different material was going to cost more, and it would take months to get it, because the bad winter weather across the nation that year had created a big order backlog.

So the carpenters we were working with quickly worked out another solution. They estimated the cost of completely ripping out the old porch roof awning, and added in the cost of building a new, pitched, front porch roof with shingles and columns and a new handrail. The cost came out only a few hundred dollars more than the original cost of replacing the roof, so we went with it. It took several days, because of the rainy weather, but they did it. They finished on time and at the cost of the revised bid we'd agreed upon. Their work changed the entire look of the whole house. It went from looking like a bungalow to looking like a new, different house that fit in with the rest of the neighborhood. They even matched the trim colors of the house exactly! We were very pleased with their work and how the company's whole crew operated. They carefully explained everything to us and didn't miss any details. We will definitely call them again.

our old medicine cabinet was probably the original one from the 1940s or 50s, with the long white florescent lights on the sides. though it worked well, it was a little rusty and made the bathroom look very dated. When the guy from American Home Handyman arrived, we went over the measurements and then looked online at some medicine cabinets that would work for us. He helped us choose one and ordered it. When it came in, he came back and ripped out the old one in a matter of minutes. He had no trouble wiring up the lights and installing it and he did it all quickly. It looked great right away. Everything works smoothly on it. It had 3 mirror/doors on it that made it easier to shave or do makeup. It makes the whole bathroom look fantastic! It really brightens up the bathroom.

I have focused on the results here because the workman was so smooth and quick in getting the job done that he was almost invisible in comparison to the actual results--the change in the bathroom greatly overshadowed his labor! It was a no-mess, no-fuss day when he put it in.

American Home Handyman came and brought a new water tank with them the day after I called them when I discovered my water heater had burst. They removed the old water heater then cleaned up the mess from it. Then they installed the new one. These guys were fast! They were very thorough and left no sign they'd been there, except for a new hot water tank. I took a reeealll nice long hot shower later that day! Great job... and pleasant, too! I am very careful about who I let in my home, and they did not have coarse llanguage and offensive talk and manners.

The garage door was broken and not working. These men came in and took care of it for me and my elderly mom. They did not overcharge me and did good work. They were very sociable and nice to be around. The whole way they treated us made me realize I could trust them.

    Brighter Finish Construction
-Called Frank to give estimate on the property, and he responded back quickly with email and phone.
    - Said he charges by the hour which I now have learned my lesson to never let contractors charge by the hour on jobs this size. He also charged for travel time again mistake.
    - It was a small job and we gave 3 weeks as a deadline but expected it to be done really in one week if you acutally work 8 hour days.
    - Communicated via email and he stated that he had ran into a few issues but we should be ok for the deadline and that he was a little behind due to personal reasons.  I excused it and work continoued.
    - Recieved an email that we need to do a final walk through and had my father do the walk through since I was out of town. When he arrived at the property we were shocked!!!!!!!!!!
The work was well below my standards I would say it was D- work. When I got back into town and saw the workmanship I notified him immediatly that I didn't want him to be on site any more.
Usally I give the contractors time to fix the work however it was so bad and sloppy I just wanted him off the property.
    - Plaster had gouges and the wall was no where close to smooth. I am an amature and I plastered walls better.
    - The corner of the plaster work was looked like boogers running down the corner.
    - No prep work was done in my opinon even though he later refuted this but there was drywall dust everywhere, and I mean everywhere.
    - Paint was on the floor
    - He put in a hand rail that was too short that wasn't painted and we later just replaced.
    - He installed floor tile and didn't clean the glue off the tile
    - Found out that he didn't put in a trap so sewer gas issue is still there.
    - Some how my hotwater tank the breaker was hooked up wrong and it fried the tank. Can't really tell for sure if it was him...
    - He installed Allure plank vinyl flooring "easiest flooring to install" and couldn't open up the door because the flooring was stick up. Had to replace the flooring in that area and blamed the flooring yet it laied perfectly fine for me an amature.
    - Found out that he lacked knowledge when it came to electrical as my father was an electrician and had to fix multiple mistakes. Plus he didn't even finish the electrical job.
    - The list just goes on as we keep finding issues just was a big mistake.
When I showed him pics and sent him an email that I was upset he stood by his work and blaimed communication. I am sorry but I shouldn't have to tell you how to wire, how to lay floor, how to drywall or plaster, or that you need to put in a trap, thats why I hired a professional. Everything was spelled out on a spread sheet and we meet for 2 hours before the job was started in which he could work up his bid. It was only a 3,000 job.
He also didn't come down on his bill he charged me full price for a non completed job.  He wouldn't come down on the price because I wouldn't give him a chance to fix it. No ownership of the work performed...
I am currently consulting with my lawyer to see what my next course of action when it comes to payment.
I had to pay extra a cleaning crew to clean up his mess. I had to hire an electrician to fix up his electrical work.
P.S. I have pictures but do not know how to upload them onto this site.

    Mike Lonzo Painting
The job was done very poorly and painter underestimated cost to perform service as he seemed to be not educated in wall paper removal. Painter for company (chris lonzo) said he was painting with his father (owner of painting company) since childhood. He quoted a price of $1,000 then added $300 to total when three separate tints were requested. He asked for an additional $200 when he found himself in trouble removing wall paper as he had to keep buying unprofessional grades of wallpaper remover. He also requested another $100 cash when electrician finally came, saying that all the other electricians he tried to do the work were having health problems ~ obviously not the truth! He promised 2 coats of paint and only provided one on both the walls and woodwork. Places where wallpaper not removed were painted over and now these shards of paper are curling up and peeling, In kitchen, wall behind stove and refridgerator were not primed and painted. When contacted by phone, chris did not call back about the needed repairs and one time he pretened to me that he was his brother and he would give "chris" the message. In kitchen, paint was sloshed in new ceiling receptacle and also under washer/dryer and refridgerator. Although drop cloths were used, there are multiple paint droppings on kitchen cabinetxxs, kitchen floor, kitchen table, desk, computer stand, carpet, and hutch. Many outlet plates were removed, but outet or switch was painted over (this is quite noticable when using beige or pink paint and the outlets are brown. All plates were removed, but most have paint smudges and most were not screwed back in place. Two wall ights in dining room were note screwed back in place. In addition, painter used flat paint when semi-gloss was requested as he said flat paint covered the gouges in walls. These were gouges HE made when trying to scrape off paper incorrectly as these wall were all new plaster board installed about 20 years ago. There are many deep gouges in kitchen where painter tried to dig out wallpaper instead of peeling it off as professionals do. Wooden molding at ceiling was not properly re-installed as PAINTER didn't have tools with him to pound in nails. Also, broke drapery rods by being too rough and broke a door latch on wooden server which he was requested not to move without help. He said he could handle any of the furniture moves alone as he was quite experienced. Also scraped off a corner of a window sill in kitchen while moving washer/dryer which he requested to not move unless he asked for help. My husband was home at all times and asked painter if he needed any help ~ the painter declined. Painters worked a little and bickered a lot, promising to work a 9-5 day, but never arrived much before 11am and always stayed until at least 6 or 6:30 pm, knowing that my husband had an hour drive ahead of him to pick me up at work as I don't drive due to health issues. Legal action being considered.

It went very smoothly. It was over and done before I knew it. The ceiling fans are a welcome addition to our closed-in back
