  • We did not end up using this contractor as we had a neighbor (amish) do the work, but Matt would have gotten the job otherwise. Our Amish neighbor was in need so it was out of concern that we hired him and he did a great job. Matt is very professional and pleasant to work with, understood our plans and was always prompt with responding, appointments and bid. If we do another project Matt will certainly be our guy! Thank you Matt !

  • The guys at Kitchen Village are very personable and I very much enjoyed working with them. Only three complaints, but it was enough to cause us to look elsewhere.

    1) TIMING: each appointment that needed to be made for consultation averaged a three week wait. We specified we would like project completed before end of year, but because of all the time delays with any little revision we finally gave up in November. I did make several changes, but nothing major, but each time they wanted to redraw the plans and in the interim nothing was accomplished. Items changed were relatively minor and did not affect the kitchen portion.

    2) LIMITED SELECTION: they have a small, but nice showroom. Unfortunately most of their tiles are in the gray and green tones. I was looking for warm, rich earthy tones...browns, coppers, bronze complimented with soft golden yellows and creams.. These men were both in my home, saw my color palette and even photographed every detail, but somehow they kept setting me up in cool tones with grays. They were good about spending the time with me on compiling my kitchen colors after I found what I was looking for, but still the lack of available selections made it difficult and unproductive for my bathroom.

    3) PRICE: we have a nice, but modest home in the country. We expressed the current value, and what it would sale for at the premium with our renovations and wanted to stay within the price difference. When shopping products with them they give you their recommendation but don't show options without being clearly asked. Their design included about $10k in cabinetry just for our tiny guest half bathroom. Our bathroom shower, tub and sink faucets they had in at around $5k. I found the exact carpet for the master bedroom installed with highest grade pad for $1500 and they wanted $3500 for exact same product...material only.

If you have a very deep checkbook and at least a year I am sure John and Scott would do a great job, but if you are looking to get something done within 6 months and want quality but modestly priced you may find that 6 months has gone by and nothing done. We did. Having to wait an average of three weeks between each consultation killed our springtime, summer and fall putting us months behind in getting work started.

  • PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE HIRING ANDREA, SHE MISORDERED MY TUB AND ABOUT $30,000 worth of kitchen cabinets and REFUSES to reorder the correct cabinets or tub! Instead she wants as many months as she needs to have my cabinets refinished and won't even guarantee I will have this done before the end of summer!! She would not even guarantee within a year!! In the meantime, I have NO KITCHEN BUT SHE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THAT! As to the tub, I had to go and pay almost $1,000 for a new tub and she has not responded to my request for refund for amount I paid for the first tub! Here's list of problems so far: 1) KITCHEN: all my base kitchen cabinets and the pantry cabinets were to be soft yellow with a golden glaze. Andrea MISORDERED the soft yellow with a white colored glaze which looks entirely different. She refuses to order correct cabinets. AND while she tries to get someone to reglaze in correct color she says it might take months of trying to get correct color and that she will reorder ONLY AFTER SHE DECIDES when she has exhausted all possibilities, and she said this might not get done even by the end of summer. In the meantime the granite countertops CANNOT be installed, so I HAVE NO KITCHEN! I ordered and paid for cabinets with factory finish and warranty! Now she refuses to give me these and refinishing will likely void my warranty on the finish. She acknowledges this is her fault and is paying the refinishing guy but refuses to hear that I am not accepting this! I want what I paid top money for. 2) MASTER BATHROOM: Andrea designed a completely new bathroom for me. In it I was to have Biscuit colored sinks, tub and toilet. The sinks are correct, but the tub is BRIGHT WHITE AND WOULD NOT FIT IN AREA DESIGNATED, Andrea failed to measure the tub area, the amount of space need for the faucetry, and take into account the size of tub she ordered. Not only was tub she ordered white, but it did not fit as the faucet could not be installed. I had to go to Venago Supply in Erie and pay for a second tub in correct size and color, and she has refused to refund my money for what I paid for first tub. 3) UPSTAIRS BATHROOM: I hired Andrea with work starting in early December, and she agreed to have a tub/shower installed for me in our upstairs bathroom no later than Jan 5th. Work was scheduled to be complete by mid-February. She had her husband move our old tub upstairs and put in some tile, which looks cheaply done and unattractive. All that was needed to finish it was to have the glass installed so we could take our daily showers. I called Andrea numerous times as we did not have glass so could not shower! This was finally completed on February the very end if time project was supposed to be done! I never would have hired to have it moved up if I could not use it during this time. Andrea just kept blowing me off...she simply did not care. 4) STAIRS: I have a relatively expensive wood staircase going upstairs. No protection was used during the reworking of the upstairs bathroom and now I have deep scratches and heavy wear on my stair treads. Andrea has refused to respond to me about this. I am disgusted with Andrea! At first I was extremely pleased with Andrea. She is delightful to work with and made me feel like my project was in wonderful hands. I wanted my kitchen to have a French Country look with glazed yellow base cabinets and soft white with glazing upper cabinets. She custom ordered samples, including a fully finished yellow door with golden glaze and I literally fell in love with the look of the door. It was perfect. I ordered and paid 50% deposit in December and then she insisted that I pay another $40% BEFORE the cabinets arrive, which is unusual considering her contract and sign on her desk say to pay 2nd installment at time of delivery. I trusted her completely so gave her the check. The project was supposed to be completed by middle of February and now she is telling me that my kitchen may not even be done by the end of summer because she does not want to take the financial responsibility of paying for the reordered cabinets. Honestly!! I want the cabinets I paid for!! Not hers which will be refinished, inferior, and have no warranty! Anyone wanting a reference and proof of all that is stated above is welcomed to contact me.
