    Disciple Masonry
We cannot begin to describe how incredibly pleased we were with Patrick and his cohort, Nick. Consummate professionals AND craftsmen, they worked swiftly yet were comprehensive in effort and scope. Patrick was completely transparent in what he was thinking and believing and explained his reasoning thoroughly, both in the estimate process and later, in this job that ended up having more problems than we anticipated and required additional work and time. he was collegial, pleasant and humble. he and Nick were a pleasure to have at our house. as for the jobs themselves, he was able to work with our old chimney and provided further protection after his work of repairing and repointing was finished . his idea about how to handle the base of the chimney and make it look stunning and different by adding a heavy copper facing that slightly flared out as it met our natural stone patio, was an incredible idea that ended up being as incredible looking as it sounded when he proposed it after discussing with us our ideas about aesthetics and discussing our ideas and priorities. and as for the second job, what Patrick and Nick ended up doing was to fully dig out and remove the old cinder block walls, leaving ample space for placing a waterproof barrier where the new cinder blocks they installed met the soil of the grounds, and then backfilling, after filling each block with concrete. in addition, they took out the original framework of the old screen door that led directly into the basement, and put in a new frame for a new door (that we will have to get installed in the near future) made of pressure treated lumber for additional weather and insect protection. they took out and rebuilt the lintel area over the doors, and insulated this and the areas behind the new framework as well. they then capped off the new lintel area with wood like PVC board, which we will paint to match the Cotswold Cottage look of this unique home. they also dug out and laid concrete at the head of the new Bilco doors where none existed before. and finally, they installed the new Bilco doors, which, because of the White House tariffs on steel, became several hundred dollars more expensive than when we signed the work order. The public needs to know that when you hire this wonderful man, you are getting a superb craftsman, an excellent thinker, a great worker, an ethical individual, and someone who cares deeply about his work and his customers and will do whatever has to be done to make the owner happy, and the job one to be proud of. And his choice of an equally wonderful and skilled worker, his friend and longtime associate (Nick) who has many many years in this field, is also an indication of excellent judgement. Nick himself was also a pleasure to work with and to know. By the end of this job, we felt like Patrick and Nick were longtime friends with amazing skills. our only regret is that we cannot use this magnificent company for anything in the near future. you will not regret hiring them.

    Michael's Brick Pointing
Mikes guys showed up on time and described the work that was going to be done.  A previous contractor had used some caulk like material to point the chimney and it was peeling away from mortar.  After removing the caulk they started to point the bricks without removing any of the old mortar.  I called Mike to ask why and he told me they only need an eight of an inch of space to apply new mortar.  Any pointing job I'd ever seen or heard of required up to a inch of the old mortar removed before apply the new.  Mike said he would call his guys and have them grind out the old material.  They ground a small section and continued pointing.    I called Mike a second time to see why they had not removed any other material.  He continued to tell me that an eight of a inch was enough space work with and that they do it all the time.  Only after i said that I would not be satisfied unless they did the job correctly did he have his men continue to grind out the old mortar.  I have spoken with several contractors since then and they agree, taking out a half to an inch of old mortar is the only way to do the job correctly, and is also why most contractors want nothing to do with this kind of work or take short cuts like point directly over the old mortar.  They were not happy with having to the job over but continued on and cleaned up.  The chimney looks good and I hope the job holds up.

    Above All Chimney and Masonry
I highly recommend calling and quot;Above all chimneyand quot;. I would trust them with any type of chimney job. Our 70 year old chimney had cracked mortar and brick faces were falling off. We were getting a wet wall inside on rainy weeks. and quot;Above all chimneyand quot; came out and recommended a repointing and chimney saver coating. We had 2 other estimates from local companies. The other companies were recommending masonry paint or stucco for waterproofing. All of the estimates were in the same price range, but we wanted to retain the brick look. We also thought the chimney saver product was great and repointing was the correct fix. The person that performed the estimate also managed the project and inspected the work daily. The guys were very professional. Their work was excellent. A crew of two worked on grinding out the mortar for a few days. They cleaned up as they worked. Mortar dust had settled on a nearby car and they washed off the car. They dug out and replaced complete bricks with new bricks that matched. Some bricks were refaced with mortar and painted as requested. They repaired the crown which was not on the estimate and no additional money was requested. When the job was complete the surrounding area was washed and debris was removed. The chimney looks 100% better. The water proof coating will be applied in a few weeks to allow the mortar to set. Overall the work performed was a great value for the price.

    A Champion Chimney & Masonry
I called Champion Chimney to examine my chimney as I am getting a smoke inside the house when I start the fireplace. To make a long story short, they came, swept the chimney, spending less then 10 minutes in my house and left.  Later I received a call asking for a payment, reluctantly I did pay for 49$ for the sweep, but the conversation quickly became personal with Mason (I assume the owner). I never would have expected to hear insults from my chimney sweep guy.
You, their potential customer be the judge. You can decide whether it was fair or not:
I call asking them if they can fix the problem, they say yes
instead of fixing or even analyzing, not to mention estimating the solution for the problem they sweep my chimney and leave
When am I expected to pay, when they perform a job I did not ask them to perform or when they solve my problem?
I see it like that. You come to the mechanic complaining that your car has problems, who washes your car, sending you home asking for the payment for the wash and never mentions the solution or estimate for the real problem you came there for.
Well that would be half the problem and easy to solve usually caused by brief misunderstanding. The real problem is dealing with a rude person who gets personal over issue of misunderstanding, yelling and calling you names. Really? Don't we have enough stress in our lives to hear our chimney sweep guy's tantrums? I don;t thin so. Thank you Angie's list for allowing this information be available for other potential customers

CHIMNEY RESTORATION by CHRIS McNAMARA MASONRY REST
Very professional, but estimate was high compared to some others. He came highly recommended. I have no reason to believe his work is anything less than excellent. A secondary consideration was that I needed masonry repair on two chimneys, and the lining replaced on one of them. A couple of contractors were able to provide both services, so the price may have been comparatively lower based on their being able to spread their fixed costs over the entire job. As of this writing, I have not had the work performed (will do so within 4-6 weeks).
