Basement & Foundation reviews in Slatington

  • Went very well. I am waiting on an Angie's list roofer to re-roof my house cupola. Once this project is complete I will how much money remains in the 2015 construction budget for foundation repairs.

  • Interior basement drywall had signs of moisture wicking in from the exterior part of the slate wall. The slate wall is flush against outside concrete stairs, and during periods of rain, the slate would transfer the dampness and moisture inside and saturate the drywall. (The house was built in the 1800's.)
Mike & his crew removed the old stucco and plastic mesh on the exterior wall, applied tar paper, steel mesh, stucco and skim coat. They also applied tar paper, steel mesh, concrete, and blue foam insulation to the interior wall. Mike also insulated areas he said "felt like an air conditioner on the high setting" to block any air flow that was there, and that contributed to the wall being cold and damp during all seasons.
As soon as the interior wall was concreted, I noticed a big difference in the basement. The dampness was gone!! It got even better after the blue foam insulation was applied. I can now heat the basement using a low setting on the portable heater... The wall is no longer cold to the touch! Before the repair, I had to run a heater almost continuously during the winter, and it had to be on the high setting to get the room somewhere near to being liveable.
The molding and drywall was completed by Steve of SJH Contracting, a sub contractor Mike uses. Steve did a great job on the carpentry, drywall and spackle.
Mike, his crew, and Steve were very nice and kept me informed of their work and the progress of the job. Mike returned to check that all was done to his standards.
I am very, very pleased with A+ Waterproofing and also with SJH Contracting. I will definitely use them in the future!

  • Don Verge, the contractor, was at the site everyday first thing in the morning to assure all is going well and we were happy. He dealt with the zoning board to get all the permits needed and was here for every inspection to handle things personally.

The start of the project was delayed by 2 weeks because of weather. Don quoted a 6 week construction time from start to finish and held to that even when we caused a week delay with concrete work we decided to do after construction started.

Don held to his quoted price. We did have one additional cost for work that we added when we asked him to put in a drain field to help eliminate water problems in the basement.

The sub-contractors he used were also very professional. No cigarette butts, cursing or unpleasant behavior. The job they did was just what we expected.

I talk with the zoning inspector and she was very pleased with our contractor as well. She was impressed with how fast the work was being done and how well it was performed.

    Issues:

Hurricane Sandy blew off 5 shingles from the addition roof. Don sent out the roofer 2 days later and it was fixed at no cost.

The drywall tape in the cathedral ceiling is separating. Don is sending someone out to fix it at no cost and this is something that happened 3-5 months after construction was completed.

During the February heavy blast of rain from the east, the bay window leaked. Don is also having that fixed at no cost.

All in all, I have recommended Pocono Home Exteriors to many people. Any other work we might do in the future, I will contact them. They are an excellent company.
