    Finishing Touches
If I could give Steve an A+, I would give it in every category. He and his helper Brian are the nicest, friendliest, most courteous and most professional contractors Ive ever worked with. Steves tile work is beautiful. I couldnt be happier. Since their next job wasnt starting for a few days, I asked them to repair some rotting wood on my deck stairs, replace some blades on a ceiling fan and replace an outside faucet. They are a talented duo and strive for perfection in all their work. I already have plans to hire them for another project.

    Popcorn Pete- Mulholland Painting
My son contracted with "Popcorn Pete" for the above listed work on a Clifton Heights rowhouse he recently bought. The popcorn was removed as contracted for, but about half of the total ceiling surface areas were left too rough and uneven for finish painting. We're having to recoat and finish sand too many areas to count throughout. The wallpaper removal was incomplete. Pete said they were doing damage to the walls when trying to remove some of the wallpaper and that they would instead primer over those spots and skim coat them to blend to the stripped walls. The primer and skim coat they used left a loose and uneven surface mess that we had to remove ourselves. The ceiling cracks were repaired, but needed more filling and sanding to be ready for a final paint coat. This is my son's first home project and first experience dealing with a contractor we didn't already know. Unfortunately he provided final payment before doing a final inspection of Pete's work. When my son called Pete to complain about what had been left unfinished, Pete initially said he would send someone out to finish up, free of charge. Then, as their conversation about what needed to be done deteriorated, Pete said he'd only send someone out for another $500 in cash. That price came down to $150 and finally Pete said he considered the job done and hung up the phone. Not only did Pete not complete the job as contracted for, his crew left the kitchen sink clogged from their cleaning of their tools. We found several inches of standing water and debris in the sink, and found paint and spackle tracked out side on the front steps and down the sidewalk. The sink trap had to be taken apart to clean it of their debris. Pete called my son "petty" for complaining about the clogged sink and mess they left on the sidewalk. Pete's initial price during negotiations was fair, and then he offered to lower it a few hundred dollars if payment was made in cash. He was paid in cash. We all know what that means.

    Custom Renovations
AWFUL!!!! STILL NOT COMPLETE. The deal was subcontracted out to another company. (April, 2016) I dealt with the painter being late and even going over the expected amount of time to complete the job. The paint job was completed; I thought... then after trying to wipe fingerprints from the wall, (May 2016 )I could see the color of the original paint. I notified the subcontractor. He told me that it was a primer and he would have to come out to redo/repaint the entire job. Well, 9 months later and still lies and excuses from the subcontractor. I contacted Custom Renovations a few times and the problem has not been corrected. The answering service just says that they will forward the message...3 months later and no one has called me about the problem.

I am renovating my kitchen, and the walls need some drywall repair from tearing out a partial wall,  some other holes from taking out cabinets.  He also closed off a doorway with drywall, and installed drywall on the ceiling.  The drywall repairs were very smooth and showed no flaws after priming.  Justice was very communicative, and showed up when he said he would, and communicated any changes of schedule, etc.  I got several prices, and he was competitive.

    MK Remodeling Inc
When I moved into my house I knew I had a job on my hands. They place hand't been updated since the 1970s. I contacted a number of contractors in my area and after receiving a number of estimates went with MK. The reasoning for my decision to hire MK was a combination of the inclusiveness of their quote, his willingness to work with us on a difficult project, and a shared connection within the business (which was unknown to me at the time).
Upon hiring around early June we got down to the details of the dormer. My house is a Cape Cod which included the laundry in the kitchen. Since we needed to do an entire update of the electrics anyways we went with a dormer of approx. 40 feet from the end of the house to the middle. They were able to provide drawing and the permitting process was a breeze due to building on existing foundation. Once the framing was completed and roofing placed on the back of the house we decided to have the whole roof done. MK was able to get me a # for that extremely quickly and the job was completed within a week of ask.
Being an older house there were a number of hurdles encountered...mainly the joists being somewhat sloped. This made the tiling in the upstairs bathroom somewhat difficult since there was approx. 1/2" difference between the ceiling on one side of the tub vs the other. MK was able to come up with an elegant solution that adds a bit more to the tiling and allows for a nice symmetric look and excellent protection.  In addition, due to removing part of a room to allow for the dormer we negotiated in drywall and rough finishing for the upstairs room while in mid-job.
For the downstairs the plan was to demo the bathroom and kitchen. The downstairs bathroom was to be full tiled to 4'. Once again the intricacies of the house reared their head to show and unevenness in the ceiling. However, it much less significant downstairs and easy dealt with. As a note, both bathrooms look incredible. The quality is to notch and the finishing is exactly what I was hoping for. For the kitchen what we had originally budgeted for and what we ended up with were somewhat divergent...but that is not to be unexpected with a job of this size. Granted what we had originally drawn up for the kitchen worked, yet with some reworking from MK we came up with a better more efficient lay out that maximized the space better. Appointments with their kitchen designer were easy and accommodating. Once cabinets were decided upon we once again decided to go a different route and decided on granite counter top instead of the composite we originally budgeted for. Once again appointments were easy and the granite people were excellent and extremely helpful. Finally, I had insisted upon window cut into the wall between the kitchen and living room. Despite being a load bearing wall this was easy accomplished and the window/bar counter top is perfectly level and trimmed despite the slight lean with the joists.
Now one thing I feel I must mention is that my electrics were a mess. Complete disaster. I was aware of this and tried to ensure MK was as well. However, until you really get into the walls you can never really tell how bad. MK will not tell me how bad, but suffice to say everything is up to code and is as it should be. I do not know the true cost of the job. All I paid was what was quoted to me and not a dime more for that specific part of the contract.
Now I would be remiss to not mention payments, timings, meetings, correspondences etc. Payments were laid out very easy in a scheduled manner to coincide with major completion of work. A small retainer to begin with and then several large checks to cover the bulk of the work...approx. 10 to 15% depending on what was completed. Very easy to make sense of and all laid out to you on the contract. I have never had an issue with contacting MK...they are prompt with email replies and available for calls and replied to texts on the weekends to questions. Meetings were easy to set up and they were always prompt and on time. Very courteous and professional, but a good sense of humor and jovialness in their mood. They take pride in what they do and looking at what I have now vs. what I started with and what some of my friends/family have received in terms of this type of work MK are top notch. Note MK are a family business and that's why I went with them. They are smaller so might not have some of the fancy abilities of other contractors or large companies ,yet they were extremely accommodating with all the changes, updates, and add ons that I requested. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone in the area looking for small or large jobs to be completed.

We did not use the provider (still quoting to get a price closer to outr budget) but he was very punctual, responded quickly and provided the quote in the time frame he stated, so other previous negative experiences MUST HAVE been an anomaly.

I was in a bind and needed someone to come out and repair drywall in a bathroom from a roof leak. Justice was the only one who was willing to come out so close to Thanksgiving. Even though I just need drywall repair I had him paint our upstairs bathroom as well. He did an excellent Job and our bathroom looks amazing. We even have contracted him to install wainscoting on our stairs as his bid came in lower than the others and I already know he'll do an amazing job.
