How to Make Kitchen Appliances Last Longer

Appliance Repair reviews in Newtown Square

    Not Good.

I first used Mr. Appliance in 2009 for the same problem and was satisfied with their work and cost (Approx $222.00). The broiler unit on my DCS range went out again naturally I called them again. The Tech arrived (same one as in 2009) on the time and date specified.  He confirmed that there was a part required and said that he would need to order it from the manufacture.  He gave is a firm price and we gave him a 50% deposit.  Mr. Appliances' web site has the following statement:

"Upfront Pricing. Before our technicians start any work, they always explain what they are going to do. You'll never encounter surprise fees with Mr. Appliance."

Several weeks later we got a call from Mr. Appliance stating that we would need to pay $150 extra because a second technical was required to lift out the range due to the kitchen hardwood floors.  My wife explained that we had other people who could perform that job and she was told that due to "insurance" that wasn't possible.  She stated that we carry liability insurance for contractors in our home and was told that "they" would look onto it.  They eventually got back to us and said that the only option was to use there person for the extra $150 so we reluctantly agreed.

Several weeks went buy and they hadn't come so I called and was told that we had cancelled the order!  I explained to the woman at the pother end of that telephone that we never cancelled to the order and were patiently waiting to get the broiler fixed.   I was told then that the parts had been returned to the manufacture.   When I became more insistent she than said that they would be there the in two days. (obviously the parts were not returned).

Both tech arrived on the promised date and actually early.   The put the part in and it blew.`   They then determined that were was an additional problem, a frayed wire and they would need to replace the part that they just put in (supposedly at no charge) and order a wiring harness.  There was no mention of cost and I assumed that the only additional cost would be for the wiring harness.

Weeks went by and we called several times until finally we were told that the owner would look into getting the parts.  Eventually we received a confirmed delivery time and the tech arrived on time and the parts were installed and everything worked fine.

I was then presented with a bill for over $800.   I was shocked and told the tech that I'd already paid a $250 deposit.  He called the "office" and they said yes I had but that this was on top of the $250....$1080 to fix the problem!  And almost 2 months and may telephone calls         .

I asked for an itemized bill (the tech only had a total),  He said no problem but apparently it is because I have yet to receive one.

So much for their "speedy" service and their upfront pricing.

I had Rick out to 1) fix a fan on the freezer side of our 10-year old GE side-by-side that had become extremely noisy and 2) to check out the rinse-aid dispenser on our 5-year old Whirlpool dishwasher that had recently become unfillable.

I was more than pleased with the service. First of all, Rick explained how fans can move over time and so went ahead to remove the fan housing and reposition it so that the fan would no longer sound like a small prop plane flying around inside the freezer. He also inserted a small piece of rubber stripping to keep the fan from moving again.

He also checked out the rinse-aid dispenser on the dish washer and really couldn?t determine why it refused to be filled. The great thing is that, rather than pushing for replacement of the dispenser, he suggested trying the pods that contain the soap and rinse aid all in one. He said if I wasn?t satisfied with the kind of cleaning the pods provided, I could give him a call and he?d be happy to come out and replace the dispenser. (He quoted the price, and I?m still deciding but will likely want to replace the dispenser anyhow.)

Let me add that I was going to call the company repair services for the fridge and dishwasher, but now I?m glad I didn?t. Although I can?t be sure, my guess is (based on a previous experiences) that they?d probably have wanted to simply replace parts and charge me lots more to do it. Also, scheduling with the company repair services isn?t easy. They have only certain days and dates available for certain areas. Rick was able to come out on a day and time that was convenient for me.

So bottom line, I?m extremely glad I decided to call Rick based on previous reviews. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. And in this day and age, it?s not easy to find someone who is willing to not make money in order to help you save it.

My hat?s off to Rick. I?ll be calling again when the time comes.

I could not be more pleased with the professionalism, the conscientiousness and the effort to solve the issues with my sub zero.  He even ran a problem by the warranty department and it turned out I had a problem that could have resulted in a ruined refrigerator and a ruined floor.  I never would have known.
I knew to call back Appliance Repair Service as I had used them before and was most pleased with their service.  Kudos to them for making an irritating experience a pleasure.
One more thing.  He always called to let us know how soon he would arrive within the confines of his schedule and our given timeline.  How rare is that.  Great job .

Our dishwasher stopped working while it was half full of water and would not drain.  Called Durkin, they were able to come out the next day.  Very courteous, very professional and very reasonably priced.  They had it cleaned up and running again in no time.

I have Kenmore appliances so called Sears who scheduled a call for next day, then called to move out 2-3 days later. I contacted Beckson's and they came out same day to service the dryer. They picked up the motor and repaired the machine promptly the next day. Professional, courteous and great results. Thanks!

We've had both plumbing and heating/cooling work done by Horizon. I'm glad we finally found plumbers who are reliable, reasonably priced and nice to work with. I would highly recommend Horizon to anyone looking for HVAC or plumbing services.

It went very well.  He came the same day to uninstall and came on schedule to install the new one.  He knew just what to do, saved or had new parts, was very exacting in his work and tested to assure all was well.

I selected Quick Fix based on their great Angie's List reviews.  I called this morning, spoke to a nice woman on the phone and arranged to have someone come out today.  Simon came this afternoon and quickly identified and fixed the problem.  He was very nice and friendly (and was nice to my kids!) and gave me some good tips on taking care of my washing machine and identifying potential problems in the future.  I didn't expect to have the washer fixed in one visit and was really pleased that he had the part he needed in his truck and was able to fix it on the spot.  Excellent, fast, professional service, A++.

Service man came to look at the water dispenser on my Sub-zero refrigerator. It was a Friday afternoon an said he needed to call me monday with an estimate for a new water pump.  Not hearing from him, I phoned Appliance Doctor Monday afternoon.  My repair man was off that day, so please call back tomorrow.  Long story short...I called every day this week and each time I was told they would get back to me first thing the next morning.  This morning I called again and was told they were still trying to look into getting the part (which is ridiculous).  I said I didn't want to do business with them and asked for my service call money back as it was their fault that I could not go through with the repair given I had been mis-led for a week.  They of course refused. Just a really bad experience overall. Now I'm out $90 and over a week with a leaking refrigerator.

After he cleaned the duct he told me that I was close to having a fire, which I believed. He came on a holiday weekend, which was great of him and he was here within only twenty minutes. When I asked him if he repairs other appliances he said yes. I had a refrigerator that I needed looked at and he said he'd let me know if it was worth repairing and that he'd give an estimate.
