    Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
I recently used one of your highly ranked plumbers, Ben Franklin plumbing, Lancaster PA.  I needed to have the toilet tightened to the floor.  Due to a handicap, I cannot bend to do this seemingly simple task myself.  The serviceman showed up and said he would have to replace the flange.  This is a part that costs about $10 and involves removing two bolts.  I have done this type of DIY repair before I was injured, so I am familiar with the amount of labor involved.  I OK'd that, then he suggested that I have the toilet "completely rebuilt"  I know that the only rebuild possible is replacing a few inexpensive parts.  I would guess that, on the high side, there may have been $50 in parts.  I received a bill for close to $1000.00.  That's $950.00 in labor and I suppose travel from Lancaster PA.  The distance is about 15 miles.  I would very much appreciate it if you would discuss this with your vendor.  My next step is the BBB.  By the way, I had inadvertently purchased two coupons, and forgot that I had one previously unused.  That would cover $600.00 in repairs.  They refused to take three coupons, and only took two.  This isn't the first time I was overcharged by this vendor.  Fortunately, the previous encounter ended when I asked for an estimate which was $400.00 higher than the licensed plumber I eventually used.

When I initially called, I needed an existing gas line hooked to the meter.  When Aaron arrived, he was under the impression he would be installing the line.  I told them multiple times that the line was already there.  I really felt like I wasn't being heard when I set up the service.

Prior to setting this up,  I already had a good idea of the cost of the work that needed to be done.  I was completely shocked at the $759 estimate to do this work.  Tech was asked to leave.  We would not be using Ben Franklin.  I called Triangle  in Leola and got the real cost!  The job was done for $280!  How dare you try to cheat hardworking people out of their money!  Needless to say, I would never recommend you to anyone in the future!

    Cocalico Plumbing & Heating

Contact with CPH was made by phone - courteous, responsive service.  I was quickly given an approximate time of service (a 2-hour window) and asked if the technician could come earlier if available (with an advance phone call) - I consented.

Technician called about 45 minutes early, asked if he could arrive about 15 minutes ahead of window (I consented).  He arrived as indicated.

Technician listened to the symptoms I described, asked several questions, and advised a couple possible diagnoses he would check.

I showed him the locations of my pressure tank, breakers for my well pump, etc.  He asked about history of service.  He checked the pressure switch at the pressure tank, manually activated it resulting in water pressure (which was the original problem).  He offered his assessment of the entire system and gave me a couple service options (the "minimum" and the "long-term").  He described the need for eventual replacement of a number of components and described how CPH would slightly re-locate those components in order to improve system effectiveness.  I chose the "minimum" option, but do believe I will eventually (within a few years) need to do the "long-term" work.

The Technician then proceeded to do the work, taking care not to "mess up" my home (despite its less-than-pristine condition to begin!).  He re-thought one other item he had originally pointed out, suggesting I get a new pressure gauge installed to make it easier for me to keep an eye on system performance (that was originally in the "long-term" category).  I accepted his suggestion.

He then changed a broken freeze-proof faucet.  I had already purchased one, and figured I would ask him to install it if he completed the first service in less than the 2 hours covered by the Angie's List deal.  He tried to use the faucet I had purchased (indicating I would need to sign a release stating that CPH would not be responsible for a material failure of the component I had supplied).  Unfortunately, the faucet I bought would not fit properly, so I asked him to supply one that would fit with less effort.

He completed the work within a reasonable time, carefully explaining to me everything he was doing.  The hourly rate for CPH seems a little high to me (he did go over the 2 hours slightly), but the quality of work is very good and the service is excellent.  I have used CPH in the past for HVAC work (and maybe for some plumbing), and will continue to do so in the future.  I would recommend CPH for residential HVAC or plumbing work (cannot speak to their other services).

My experience with them was fine. They were no surprises. I did have them come back for a one faucet that didn't quite stop leaking, but it's okay now. They are very efficient and effective. I was fully satisfied with what they did. They were prompt. They came the same day I called them. They are careful about what they do. They cleanup after themselves. I couldn't compare their price with anybody else, it always cost more than I would like to pay, but I paid it nothing to complain about.

    Value Dry
We called Value Dry for a free estimate.  They sent out an inspector, John, who thoroughly looked at our basement and came up with a solution.  We felt comfortable with the solution and with the price as well after using our Angie's List coupon.  The crew was fast, neat, and hard working.  It has been almost 3 weeks and we haven't seen a drop of water in the basement since they finished.  We are excited to be able to use the space and may even call Value Dry back in a few months for finishing the basement.

    Neffsville Plumbing & Heating Services
It got hot quickly going into Memorial day weekend, and we realized our A./C was not working. We called Neffsville Plumbing & Heating. With very little notice, they had a tech onsite the next day, we had not use Neffsville prior to this call, so that was impressive. Tech was knowledgeable and quickly identified, and explained a few things to me. He said cleaning the coil and adding some Freon will help, and we should just monitor the system. It is 10yrs old, it may need replaced, but wait and see. The system has functioned all Summer, so Neffsville got us working quickly and no presuure to replace the system that would've added weeks of no A/C to a hot summer. Tech explained their Free Inspection program, not really a service plan, but a guarunteeed visit durng the year, to inspect and pro-actively corect any issues (billable). I signed up for it and will have them inspect the unit at the end of summer. I liked the work Neffsville did, their quick response and good friendly service.

Very well....felt price was high, because it was a replacement, which we had, it had same hook up etc. They reviewed that fact, and they gave me $50.00 back.
