I had knee meniscus surgery on July 18th at UPMC Shadyside; at 3-week post surgery f/u I was advised that I did not need physical therapy (PT). After 10 weeks, as the knee had not recovered, I asked for a prescription for PT. Don Vargo was my therapist, but I was also occasionally seen by others in the facility. Don tried the standard PT protocol that worked in his experience; after 3 weeks as I was not making the expected progress, he had me see the original surgeon to get his advice; the surgeon took some additional x-rays and advised me that basically I was fine except for some bone loss (arthritis) and told me to focus on hamstring stretches. Don modified the treatment to focus more on this, and I saw him over a 3 week period. While I made some progress, there was still a sharp pain if I straightened my knee with slight weight on it at a particular angle. Don told me that I was an outlier and that I should get a second opinion. With advice from my internist I found another surgeon who specialized in sports injuries. This surgeon took additional x-rays and looked at the previous imaging and did a physical exam; he told me that I was suffering from degenerative arthritis which had cause narrowing of the joint space on the inside of my knee. My best bet was to work on exercises to strengthening my thigh and calf muscles, and with care I could go 20 years without needing total knee replacement. Don advised me on exercises to accomplish that and how to judge my progress. Don is a good listener and he really cared about me and helped me make good decisions to determine the underlying cause of the problem. I had never used PT before, but now I am a convert. All appointments were kept on time, and my copayment, $25/visit, was well worth it for me. The staff was extremely friendly. I would recommend Don and this facility to anyone needing PT.

About a year ago (February 2013), I had to have emergency abdominal surgery. I also had bad test results on another (unrelated) condition. I went to see my Primary Care Physician of 25 years, a UPMC doctor, and he told me he could no longer see me because of my insurance (Highmark), even though I desperately needed to be seen and I offered to pay cash.
I found Dr. Campbell of Westmoreland Center... in a directory. They agreed to see me immediately, though I was a brand new patient and didn't even have a chance to get my medical records transferred. Dr Campbell talked to me patiently and thoroughly about my medical conditions, ordered appropriate tests, and followed-up promptly. I have been very pleased with his knowledge and professionalism. His office is close by (in Murrysville) and his staff are equally professional.
I have had two occasions to see him again in the past year. Both appointments were arranged promptly and conveniently. I had no wait time at all in his office. I interacted with his receptionist to get medical records transferred and also copies forwarded to another specialist -- everything was done exceptionally well. At my last appointment, his nurse assisted with some tests and she was top rate as well

In my experience, the medical assistants, with the exception of one, are snotty and unpleasant. I think that the office has major privacy issues, both at the desk and while you wait in the exam room. I have been able to hear the doctor dictating notes about other patients on more than one occasion.

The exam was routine. I had a few questions about another procedure I needed to schedule and the NP helped to clarify everything. They are also good about sending prescriptions and reminders for follow up care which i find really helpful. My main complaint about this office is that it is a little dingy and the exam rooms are really tiny.

I took him revenge so many it, some problems. On the nose, it pleased my wife. My grandson was the one with the info. He has done very straightforward. He does not sugar coat anything. It just seemed that it repo with kids. And that for in time worked out pretty well. I did not really form an opinion. He has martial arts poured off and I am not sure exactly what the zip code is on it. It is better than it has been yoga and did not have interaction with them and not much with my wife does.

Dr. James Blaugrund is super. He knows what he is doing with thyroid operations: he does about 500 a year. He is very nice and easy to talk to. He is intelligent and he did a great job for my wife. She is a professional singer and he did NOT do something he might have done in order not to damage her voice. He is really really excellent. At the first appointment he took as much time as we had questions. He didn't look at his watch or anything. He just kept answering our questions. The recovery time was amazing. Two days after the operation she was walking around as though nothing had been done.

Dr. James R Jarvis is one of Pittsburgh's best doctors. My wife has just transferred to him. I've been using him for a year or so. My wife went to see him with issues - she has myasthenia gravis - and she is taking prednisone because her neurologist requested it. Now there's a discussion going between the two professionals who know each other. Dr. Jarvis is sensible and logical. He's not all facts and names and medications. He tries different things to help the patient.

The Eye and Ear Institute is the place you go if you have any problems in this area. They were recommended to me by my ear doctor, who has recently retired. This is not an ordinarily good group, they are excellent. They do research as well as treatment. You can get in when there's an emergency.

I am 72 years old and have been athletic and active all my life.
I had a laminectomy by Dr Maroon, for a pinched nerve and synovial cyst in 2011. I recovered quickly and was pain free and playing tennis for a couple of months.
The pain returned and was much more severe than before, and I had numbness and tingling down my leg.
Dr Maroon recommended that I see another doctor and may need a spinal fusion. (He does not do this surgery)
I did lots of research on neurosurgeons, and tried several and quot;alternativeand quot; therapies before I settled on Dr El Kadi.
He was very professional and was quite clear that the nerve had to be released or I would suffer from permanent nerve damage.
The only solution was spinal fusion since the vertabrae had collapsed and there was no disc at the L3/L4 level.
During the surgery he discovered that the L5 was out of position and needed to be fused as well.
The conclusion to this story is, that after I did all the PT, in less than 3 months after surgery Dr El Kadi gave me the go ahead to do anything I want to that does not cause pain.

SO, 3 months post surgery, I am now back to tennis, water aerobics, working out at the gym and some gentle Yoga!
Obviously, Dr El Kadi did a great job, and I will always be grateful to him that he helped me to get my life back!
His office staff were excellent, friendly and patient in answering all my questions.
