    Carl Bruning MD
What is among the top things you do NOT want a doctor to do? Fail to diagnose cancer? Yep, that's what Dr. Bruning did. He completely missed it, and it's only because my wife convinced me to get a second opinion that it was caught and I was treated and cured. To be fair, it was very early so maybe it was easy to miss, but Dr. Bruning misdiagnosed it, never mentioned cancer was even a remote possibility, and--this to me is the biggest problem--failed to order the simple and relatively inexpensive screening test that would've verified whether his (mis)diagnosis was accurate or not. Fortunately my wife convinced me to get checked again and found a better doctor for me, Dr. Jaffe (also at UPMC). If it hadn't been for that colossal mistake, I would've given Dr. Bruning a C or maybe a B at best. I arrived early for my appointment but didn't see him until maybe 45 minutes after my appointment time, and his manner, while better than some doctors I've seen, was still basically "doctor on autopilot." He took the time to answer some questions I had, and he answered them in great detail, but it didn't seem like he was really listening. Maybe I caught him on a bad day, but "autopilot" is just not the mode you want your doctors to be in when they're treating and diagnosing you. I put N/A for his office environment because UPMC Braddock is closing or closed, so I don't know what his new place is going to be like.

    Frank Costa MD
Dr. Costa is a surgeon and a very dedicated doctor. He is fabulous. He is very thorough. He has a good heart and has exceptional bedside manner. When I had the ruptured appendix on a Sunday, he was the surgeon who was on call. I didn?t know him, but it was an emergency. He explained everything to me and my husband. He was in and out of my room constantly in order to check on me and to make sure everything was done correctly. His pricing was very reasonable. He even called me at home to check on me after I had come home. I was very pleased with him. He was heaven sent. He is very good. His office environment is fabulous. His office staff is very nice. They treat you like they?ve known you forever. I?ve never waited for more than 5 minutes for my appointments with him.

I see them once a year. I have not had any problem with them and they seem to know what they are doing. The doctors and the staff are nice. They are punctual and I do not have to wait long.
