    I have had 3 different plans with Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield over several years. About 15 years ago I was working for a local nonprofit, and their Highmark insurance was excellent. I had cancer surgery, and everything went very very smooth, when it came to insurance. They paid for everything I was expecting them to pay. When I quit that job, I kept that insurance plan under Cobra. For the first few months I had some billing problems, but everytime I called I got it cleared up, but it was very annoying I had to call every month, for about 6 months, before my records finally said and quot;Cobraand quot; and not my old employer. However, this glitch never affected payment to providers. Then, in 2008 I was lucky to become enrolled in Adult Basic, for low income folks. That plan was wonderful; I again had to have a surgery and no problems whatsoever with the insurance. When Adult Basic was eliminated, I enrolled in Special Care, and I hate this insurance; it offers only 4 doctor visits a year, a much higher premium and copays, and no drug coverage (neither did Adult Basic). Nevertheless, when I call Highmark (usually to make sure I'm using a provider in their network) I receive effective and courteous service, although at times I do have to wait, sometimes more than 10 minutes. Once or twice the rep. didn't know the answer--they DID call back, as promised, and that in itself says quite a bit. I have also received letters in the mail in response to inquiries that could not be immediately answered. I do feel the reps. are well educated and do their best to help. And I always get reps that I can easily understand their diction on the phone. As Special Care is being eliminated (I did receive a letter about this) I do plan on keeping Highmark, if I can afford it. So, bottom line: I've had employer insurance, Cobra and low income with Highmark. I never had a problem with a and quot;surpriseand quot; bill. I always knew what my expenses would be before the procedures (being proactive is the key and I instigated the calls far in advance) and received great service. I do not take that for granted!

    I am there all the time. I admire him greatly. He is very up on everything. He finds out what is going on. He has helped me; I am having another problem for which I have another doctor. He has tried finding all the answers for me. His staff is very cooperative. They help in anyway they can. I have gone there for years and they have kind of become like family.
