Tile Installation reviews in Maple Glen

Belle's Buildings was on time for our appointment, reviewed the scope of work (many, many unfinished/damaged projects) and helped me come up with a plan to fix/ demo, start fresh and re-work the projects. I was extremely pleased with her work and craftsmanship, professionalism and neat COMPLETED work. She is a good project manager which is important if a contractor has more than one job. Her assistant was very polite and knowledgeable as well. My house looks fantastic. I will hire her again.

Andrew arrived on time and completed the job in one day. The results were excellent and he was professional and friendly. We would definitely re-hire and will certainly recommend to friends/family. His price was modestly lower than the other two quotes I got.

Excellent! I don't know why we didn't get these items cleaned sooner. The colors in the area rugs really pop again and we can see the design in the linoleum floors again as well. The grout in the bathroom came clean beautifully. The husband and wife team spent approximately 9 hours each working on all of these items and their attention to detail and the quality of their work is great. We wish we had other things for them to clean. We will definitely be contacting them in the future.

Great! The entire process took 1 week from the initial contact to the completion of the job. He came to the house to look at the project and give us an appraisal, once we approved the appraisal, the appointment was scheduled and completed within days. He even contacted us the night before the appointment to tell us another job he was on was taking longer than anticipated and he had to readjust the time he would be at our house. He arrived on time and was very efficient in his work completing everything that same day. All of the work looks great!

Kevin spoke with my plumber and coordinated everything with him, which was great. However, he and the plumber both showed up unannounced on demolition day; neither one notified me ahead of time. So I wasn't prepared as I didn't have the necessary tile on hand. That day Kevin demolished some of the tile so the plumber could fix the leak. Obviously, I was upset that my brand-new bathroom had to be taken apart. He assured me that he would make sure it was leak-proof and that it would look beautiful again. Because I wasn't prepared with the tile that day, I told him I would be in touch when I had the tile in hand. I called him the first week of March with the tile in hand. On March 8, 2017, he left me a voicemail that he was looking into exactly how he could make it leakproof with a new piece of hardie backer board. At that same time, he let me know that he injured his shoulder. In mid-March, he left me another voicemail that he had to get surgery and that he expected a 4-6 week recovery time. He left me the option of hiring someone else if I didn't want to wait for him. I returned his call and let him know that I had a bad bout of bronchitis and that I was not in a position to hire anyone else and that I would be willing to wait for him. During the first week of May, I called him to see how his recovery was going, but I didn't get a response. The following week (5/8/17), I followed up with a text. Still, no response. Over the course of two weeks, I tried contacting him again repeatedly (emails, voicemails, texts). I did not receive any communication whatsoever. This lack of communication is not in alignment with the experience I had when I initially hired him. I am an existing customer who paid him $12,000 worth of work so I expected a higher level of customer service. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but after trying to contact him for over a month without any response I am severely disappointed. It is not professional to be out of communication with an existing customer for this long, especially because he left a big hole in my shower which makes it unusable. Please be aware that this may happen to you as well.

Kevin and his helper Alberto were very professional and courteous. They were neat, organized and cleaned up after themselves. Kevin took his time to make sure the design was symmetrical. He always stayed in communication with me by text or phone throughout the entire process. He worked with my own carpenter and plumber to coordinate the drain installation and the toiletry niche construction. At one point, he did an errand for me and picked up an extra slab of Carrera marble at Avalon Tile and I was impressed by his customer service. Kevin was the most expensive estimate I received, but I was willing to pay the extra money because I believed I was in good hands. As with most construction projects, we hit a few road bumps. Our first problem occurred with the 12x12 Carrera marble floor tiles in the master bathroom. They had to rip out the brand new marble tile and the mud floor right after it was completed because the tile pattern was erratic and aesthetically unappealing. After the fact, other tile professionals informed me that a dry layout is always necessary when installing marble tiles due to their natural variations. So I was upset that I paid approximately $2600 in additional material and labor to make it right. I should not have assumed that responsibility 100%. The second time around they did a dry layout of the floor tile and the results were phenomenal. It was a beautiful flow of marble variations. Kevin and Alberto installed 3x6 subway tile in my hall bathroom. Most of the cuts had small chips on the edges and they stood out to me because the denim color of the tile was only on the surface. I have a discerning eye and some of the cuts were directly at eye level. Kevin said that he felt it was acceptable to see chips with ceramic colored tile, but I did not agree. I am pretty particular about workmanship with high expectations. I don't expect perfection, but I am looking for something close to that. Plus, my mother owned a tile store for 7 years so I knew how it should look. I did not want him to rip out every chipped tile because I was concerned about further damage so I only focused on the cuts that were at eye level. He polished all of the edges of the new cut tiles and they met my original expectations. When Kevin installed the marble tile in my master bathroom, he was on board about polishing the edges so the tile work came out stunning! However, I wasn't happy when he asked me for another $600 to cover the cost of the additional time he spent to polish each tile. In the end, we settled on $300 to keep things peaceful but I felt I shouldn't have to pay extra for a straight edge without chips. While this road bump was a little frustrating for me, I will say that Kevin was professional and courteous throughout the entire process. He listened to my concerns and he wanted to make it right. Customer satisfaction is one of his top priorities. When Kevin installed the Carrera marble mosaic floor in the hall bathroom, his helper Alberto used the sanded Power grout that the tile store sold to me. We were under the impression that Power grout won't scratch the marble, but that was not correct. There were scratches all over my brand new floor. Again, Kevin wanted to make it right and he hired someone to restore the floor and buff the surface. It wasn't quite polished at first so he asked the guy to come back and polish it. In the end, it wasn't the same as a factory finished marble floor polish but I appreciated that Kevin wanted to correct the mistake. These kinds of things happen during construction projects and the sign of a good businessman is someone who wants to make the customer happy. I think it is also important to point out that Kevin came back to my house when the entire project was complete to correct any minor issues after I had already paid him!! I love when contractors continue to offer great service after the job is complete and after they are paid. What great service! At the end of the project, I was left with over $300 of special order tile that I could not return because Kevin's square footage measurements were higher than actual. I wanted a few extra tiles leftover, but not several boxes. Just double check your square footage on your own to make sure you are not over ordering. Kevin and Alberto also installed the Calacatta Gold marble around my fireplace. He had the patience to work with my carpenter on this project and he did a dry layout of the marble sheets. The tile work is gorgeous! The fireplace is so beautiful! It is one of my favorite things in my home. In summary, when guests visit my home they think my bathrooms look beautiful! So, if you ask Kevin up front to polish the edges of the tiles, to do a dry layout of your marble installation and then double check your square footage for tile orders - you will be in good hands.

Michael is my go-to-guy for home repairs and updates. He is very responsive and is willing to do most any job. He does quality work and goes the extra mile. My first encounter with Michael was as a subcontractor for the outfit that installed new siding on our house. We had a a small hole in the cement block foundation; he saw it and using cement he closed the hole. That was not part of the job he had been hired to do - he just did it (and no charge for it!) Right then and there, I decided to hire him for the numerous job our house needed. I have not been disappointed and intend to rely on his talents and work ethic for upcoming jobs. His rates are reasonable and he is willing to work with his clients to arrive a fair price.

Was very pleased with attention to details when discussing projects.  Received great suggestions to make even greater improvements.  Had total faith that the projects would be completed on time and with professionalism including checking in with me from time to time to address progress.  Received very favorable comments from others who viewed end result for each project completed.  I also had trust that my home was always safe guarded when work was being conducted.

OK for those of you looking for someone to do your tile work, Jack is your contractor.

The master bath floor looked easy. Just install new tile over the old because the floor didn't not need to be torn out.  That was Jack's recommendation and saved us money.

So the job started and the drain cover which was screwed in and installed 20 years ago had stripped screws.  I know there are contractors out there who would have simply said, "you need a plumber to fix this problem."  Instead Jack sent his associate out to Lowes (twice) to get the tools needed to remove the cover and complete the work.

Should have been simple but it wasn't. One of the screws broke off.  The solution - out of the box thinking - was to rotate the drain extender and re-drill screw holes for the drain cover.

    Job complete.

To me this is how a professional works.  They identify and solve problems keeping the client happy.

Jack is one of those people and I would recommend his services to anyone in need of tile work!

They failed to respond to numerous e-mails and telephone messages to discuss details and schedule the job.  When we finally connected and scheduled a date and time they were a no show with zero notification.  When I tried to call the office for information, no one answers.
