Trash Removal reviews in Lansdale

The last review I wrote, when this company was still known as Allied in my area, noted the quarterly price as $115. They add on a couple of dollars every quarter, not enough to bother with if you are busy until, whoa, you realize it has gone up significantly. Last time I had this realization I called to cancel and they reduced my bill.
Last week I received paperwork or a three-year service agreement to be billed at $139.50 a quarter, a steep increase from what I pay now. Furthermore, they reserved the right to increase it 8% a year after the first year, this at a time of historically low gas prices.
I asked if I did not sign it, would they stop picking up my trash and they said no.
I asked around and found out a friend of mine who lives out in the country pays $75 a quarter. I called Allied/Republic and they said that was the senior discount rate. I said that I was 67 and I could get by with once a week. They did not ask for any verification that I am a senior citizen which is how my friend evidently got the $75 rate despite being 10 years younger than I. The once a week regular price was $87 a quarter and the twice a week Senior rate was $82.50 a quarter, $42 less than I paid in May 2015. At no time did anyone mention the Service Agreement or the $139.50 price per quarter.
All of which is by way of a warning to keep on top of their billing because there is absolutely no rhyme nor reason to it. If they start inching it up with 'administrative costs' and 'fuel recovery costs' and whatever else they dream up, call right then and there and complain or switch to another trash hauler.

They currently charge $115 per quarter. A few days ago,  they sent me a Service Agreement which covered a three-year commitment  for $139.50. The price would hold for a year, After that, they could raise it 8% each of the remaining two years. The Agreement was full of holes and did not specify whether trash would be picked up once a week or twice a week for that price. Nor did it specify recycling would be picked up. Very sloppy. I asked if they would discontinue service if I did not sign it and they said no.
This got me to thinking what other companies charge (hint - far less) and I will be switching as soon as this quarter is up.

It's $85 a quarter. They are okay. They do their job. I had a problem with them once and it was a little pulling teeth to get it rectified, but then finally they did take care of it. I can't really find another trash carrier service in this area. They are supposed to come on Tuesday and they come on Tuesday.

Since I live alone when my daughter is at school I decided I was spending way to much for twice a week trash service that I did not need.  I saw a flyer that was put out near my trash can in the alley from G&C.  They only picked up once a week and the price was a lot less than I was paying.  I called, started the service and paid for a year in advance as one month would be free.  The first year everything went fine.  The only thing that is irritating is that if you want to do a periodic cleaning or rake all the leaves one week they have a limit of what they will take.  They do have rules and just because I only have a couple bags of trash on a regular basis does not mean they can break the rules for me!!!

If there is a holiday during the week your trash is picked up one day late.  So my Friday service became Saturday.  Fine.  Last week my trash was not picked up.  I was away for the weekend and when I went to put trash in my can on Monday is was foul.  I called that night and the recording indicated that they opened at 8 AM.  I called at quarter after 8 and got a recording.  I left a message for Lance, he handled missed pick up.  I asked that he return my call knowing people might be on vacation and forget to change voice mail greeting.  When I came home for lunch my trash was still there.  I called and got the receptionist.  I told her that I was missed and left a message that morning and had not heard back nor was my trash picked up.  She told me it would be picked up that day.  I got home from work before 5 and my trash had not been picked up.  I called again and was told that within 24 hours it would be.  I explained that I was told it would be today, she told me that they still had trucks out and that the day was not over.  Today I went to work, my trash was still there.  I came home for lunch and it was still there. I called and the girl put me on hold and when she got back on the phone told me that she left a message on the cell phone of the driver but that my trash would be picked up today.  I got home tonight and my trash is still there.  I left a message again for Lance and the supervisor at extension 313.  At this point I want my money back.  I need to find a reliable service.  I cleaned out my refrigerator right before the heat wave started last week.  I can smell the trash with the lid closed on the can.  I am furious.  I did not complain when my rates went up over thirty dollars for a year.  I paid it.

I am hoping that my phone call will be retuned, they pick up the can and refund my money.  I will update this post.

Last September we changed our trash service to WM.  I only needed once a week pick up so to get that pricing I was told by a rep that I had to do it online.  I did and paid the total ($226.74 for one year) with my credit card.  All went well until I received an email notice that a payment was due.  I looked at it but thought it was a mistake since I had paid for a year.  The week of Christmas our trash was not picked up - again the next week - no pick up.  On New Years Day (!!) I received an automated call that my account was very overdue and I was in danger of cancelation  (What!!!  They have $226.74 of my money)  So I tried to call on 1/2.  After a long time waiting I got a rep who had no idea and had to contact a supervisor.  I had to leave at that point and asked her to start the process and I would call back -she said she couldn't do that.  The next day I got a rep who (after much searching) told me that my service started after the billing cycle so I owed the September bill.  I still didn't understand how they can have $226.74 of my money and consider me seriously past due but bit the bullet and gave my CC to pay the $19.50 I "owed" since September. I asked if I was all settled than and she said yes.   Two weeks ago I received an email saying that I owed $33.36.  Now I am really concerned and called.  After much fiddling with "the system" I was told that since my service was discontinued, that was the start up fee plus fuel charges and finance charges.  WHAT????  They have $226.74 of my money. Fuel charges on a non-pickup? asked that this unbelievable example of usery be removed.  She said she couldn't do that.  I asked if it was because she was unwilling to do it or she couldn't change "the system"  She admitted that she could not change the system.  I said FINE.  Discontinue my service and return my money.  I asked how much would be returned.  She put me on hold awhile and came back with a figure of $145.  WHAT???    I said that I figured they were going to take the $33.36 out of my account and she said she didn't know - billing handles that.
Our short relationship with Waste Management  was a costly one.  There are several trash haulers in this area - pick anyone else.

They are reliable, have bare bones customer service and are more expensive than other services in the area. I will continue to use them for now because they offer twice weekly pickup which I need during gardening season as I have lots of pruning and garden waste and my yard does not have enough space for a compost pile. However, if they keep increasing the price every quarter I will look for a different supplier.

On Friday, May 25, 2012 around 6:00pm, Daniel from IWS was walking around my neighborhood signing up residents for new garbage pick up service. I met with him and liked the price, so I signed up. He told me I had 3 days to change my mind and cancel if I chose to.
After thinking it over, the next day I contacted the waste service company I was currently with and they offered a better price than IWS. So, I called IWS and left a voicemail telling them I wanted to cancel the agreement and to shred my check. It was Memorial Day, May 28th. The next day (May 29th) I called back to verify that they received the voicemail and spoke with a woman who said they didn't.  I explained everything again and that I wanted my check shredded. The woman I spoke with said that she would note that I wanted to cancel, took my contact info and said that she would have someone call me back. They didn't.
On May 29th I called back  and spoke to someone again that said there was no indication that I had called the day before. I went over everything AGAIN and was told that Stacey(?) was the one in charge of new accounts and that she had a pile of new service agreements on her desk from the weekend. The woman took my name and address and told me that she would let Stacey know that I had called twice already to cancel. I again asked that my check be shredded.
So fast forward to June 24th. I was checking my bank account online and lo and behold,  there was a check debit for $66 from IWS!! Unfortunately, it was a Sunday when I discovered this and had to wait to call. So on Monday, June 25th I call IWS and I'm told that there is nothing about wanting to cancel service! Of course there isn't. I was furious!! So now I'm waiting for a call back from Rhonda. Let's see how long that takes! In the meantime, I will call back everyday until I get my money refunded.

I noticed that my trash dumpster had been emptied but the other trash was just left there on the street by Allied Waste with no notice or rejection tag or anything. So I called them. Me: Why was the rest of my trash not picked up? A.W: What kind of trash did you have and how much? Me. Regular Trash in bags and boxes. More than usual because of cleaning the Garage. AW: Well Sir, we don't have an unlimited service. Me: I pay you regularly. Sometimes I have no trash at all- this time I have a bit more than usual and you just leave it on the street with no type of explaination? Either pick up my trash up TODAY or cancel my account! AW: Well...we'll do it this time... as a courtesy. (Here's where it got really bad.) THEN THEY PROCEEDED NOT TO SHOW UP AS PROMISED - WITH NOT AS MUCH AS A PHONE CALL Upon calling them the supervisor explained that it would cost them money to come back to collect the trash they left. So they wouldn't be returning. (EVEN THOUGH THEY PROMISED THEY WOULD) and in the future I should call them when I have more trash then usual so they can charge me an additional $60.00. So I fired them and hired a different provider. They are $60.00 cheaper per quarter and they have UNLIMITED residential pickup. The time has passed for giving money to companies who care about money and not service.

THE TRASH COLLECTOR PERSONNEL ARE ALWAYS VERY COURTEOUS, PROFESSIONAL AND FOR THE MOST PART TIMELY (HOLIDAYS, BAD WEATHER CAN CAUSE SOME PROBLEMS). WE REALLY APPRECIATE THE COLLECTORS POSITIVE AND FRIENDLY ATTITUDES. HOWEVER, THE OFFICE, INVOICING, ETC. IS NOT AS GOOD. WE HAVE HAD TROUBLE GETTING INFORMATION PROMPTLY AND THE PRICES HAVE NOT BEEN AS COMPETITIVE AS OTHER PLACES WE HAVE CALLED. WE HAVE NOT SWITCHED THOUGH BECAUSE WE ARE HAPPY WITH THE COLLECTORS ON OUR STREET AND THE WEEKLY PRICE DIFFERENTIAL WAS NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE THE CHANGE IN OUR MINDS. THEY ARE ALSO CHARGING US FOR (AND HAVE BEEN CHARGING US FOR) A FUEL SURCHARGE ON TOP OF OUR QUARTERLY BILLING. OVERALL EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN PRETTY GOOD. THEY TAKE ALL OF OUR TRASH AND PROVIDE A RECEPTACLE UNIT THAT LOOKS NICE.
