Initial dig went good, from there things went downhill. I talked with Carlisle Rubber about the MariDRI material used and Carlisle said a mastic calking (CCW 704 or CCW LM800XL) should be used under the (aluminum) termination strip at the top. I don't remember seeing anything like that being done, and Fahnestock never answered my question about this procedure. I also asked Carlisle if Fahnestock was an approved contractor for this material installation and they neither confirmed nor denyed my request. Fahnestock told me they don't do tamping in the backfill operation, which most others do. Backfill was a very quick & rough job in my opinion. In the rain right after work was completed still had damp blocks on the two walls. It has not rained that hard here since first month of completion, so I can't honestly say if this solved my problem. I paid fully the day of completion and had to request a paid invoice. I had quotes for a little more and am sorry I didn't go with a contractor who does this full time and not a part time fill in business.

Their literature stated that there would be dust and I acknowledge that. However, I was not prepared for the amount of fine dust caused by grinding existing wall treatment and mold. They did not use any dust containment device on their grinder and the dust was so thick in the air you could hardly see the wall from the end of the garage. They should have known about fine dust due to grinding and offered to cover up equipment and things in the garage or suggested I remove items or cover more things up. They did not use a vacuum with dust collection when cleaning up. With the possibility of mold and find dust in the air, I claim it was a possible health hazard and maybe an OSHA violation.

They promptly responded to request for estimate and showed up on time. Estimate was done in a professional manner and proposal documentation was provided. However I decided to postpone initiating this project.

Great - Bob's a great guy, his staff were personable and easy to have around while the work got done. He is local for us, and his price was better than the regional companies. The work is excellent, and Bob was very responsive to an issue we brought up.

Brent was very knowledgeable to work with.  We told him our concern was concentrated to one wall which showed visible water damage on the floors below.  He even noted the mold that was growing on our beams, which was missed by our inspector and other companies.  After this discovery, we opted for both the installation of the sump pump and mold remediation.

We obtained quotes from three other companies.  BWS was not the lowest quote, but we trusted them the most after meeting Brent and reading reviews.  We scheduled and with two weeks, the work was complete.  The workers cleaned up their gear.  They even filled in a low spot in our basement and closed an open pipe without being requested - pleasant surprise.

Regarding the mold remediation, it's more challenging to provide comments on as unless it's a high mold count, it's not visible.  The basement did smell "clean" after the remediation but we didn't see any big noticeable difference.  I have not conducted an swabbing or testing of the mold before/after.  Again, hard to judge by the human eyes.  Hopefully, with our new dehumidifier, we will be mold free moving forward.

Thus far, we've had some April showers, but no issues with our basement remaining water free.  Definite peace of mind.  Would recommend and use again.

    Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing of PA

MidAtlantic offered us our first free consultation at a home show.  After the inspector came in, we explained that we were having issues with one small area of our basement.  After our discussions, he tried to convince us of the worst case scenario, i.e. completely flooded basement is only a matter of time.  He continued to point out areas where no issues were noted.  While we acknowledge that other areas may be an issue in the future, there was an immediate need in only one small section.  Instead of inspecting and quoting based on small area, he recommended a full basement management system which was quoted at 19K.  We felt as though he didn't understand the issue and what we were mainly concerned with.  While we certainly appreciate the advise that sometime in the future, we MAY have issues, it does not provide justification to us to spend 19K.

The next day, we received a call from the home office.  Apparently, the Chief Inspector wanted to come to our home and talk about a different offer and/or lowering the price.  After receiving such an astronomically large original quotes, we determined that there was nothing the company could propose that we would consider or trust them within our home.

We have received three other separate quotes from highly rated Angie's list providers.  All were within 2K - 4K range.  When I mentioned  the huge quote I had received from MidAtlantic (without mentioning their name) to the other companies, they immediately responded with, "Was it MidAtlantic?"  Seems that even within the small world of basement water proofing, they have a reputation of high quotes/all inclusive work scope. Please be mindful before choosing MidAtlantic.

The inspection was a disaster.   They insisted on having my wife and I sit down to discuss what they wanted to do.  I even told the salesman that my wife didn't really care as long as the basement was dry.  This guy insisted so we listened.  Then once he gave me the 14,000 or 15,000 estimate it became like buying a car.  I told him that I should just go buy a new house and forget this basement so he began talking about discounts and after about an hour of saying no we were down to 11,000 or so.  I finally told him that I was not signing anything that day and I was going to look around.  He became angry and stormed from our home, refusing to give me his number so I could call him back if we wanted to use them.  About a week later I received a phone call from the company and I told them all of this and how unhappy I was.  They sent out a "Supervisor" likely a second salesman because I told them I would throw the salesman out if they sent one.  The supervisor told me the cost would be around 10,000.  This is the game they play and I feel sorry for the people who have used them and did not attempt to negotiate with them.  DON'T BE FOOLED BY THEIR PATENTED PRODUCTS.  It is a scam to have you sign a contract that night so the salesman can make their money.  This company has been around for a long time because they have perfected the scare tactic and their sales pitch.  I am sure their system works because they are almost all the same.  I have spoken to five other companies all suggesting the same system.  PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THESE GUYS!!!

It did not go well. He came to my home and looked at it. Part of the deal would include a proposal and there was supposed to be like some elevations of the foundation of the house and they never got that. I waited a month and I called him and he said he was really busy with all these Angie's List big deals and he had fallen behind and he would get to me when it was possible and he never did. I sent him an email, he never responded and I have seen him advertising new deals since then but he never completed what was supposed to be included in mine. He did come out and look at it but he never provided the information. He didn't complete it. The big deal did say that that proposal in the elevation was included in the deal. I was very disappointed in that. I didn't really get anything for my money. When I first made the appointment for him to come and look at it, he was very responsive but then after the day he came, I guess he didn't want to do the job but he could have said it. When he did come, he was punctual for the appointment. He was professional when he was in my house but I don't consider professional to just leave somebody hanging.

They were timely. I like them. I did not have any problems with them. The only thing I did not know was that they did not put doors back on. Anything that they tore apart, they did not put it back. It does say that in the contract, but I did not see that ahead of time. I would not need them again, but I would probably call them.

We had 4 contractors come by the house in the span of a week.  Frank was the least pushy, and he offered a price well below the other contractors. He was straight to the point and knew exactly what we needed. The work took three days--exactly as planned--and everything went smoothly. Everything looks great, and I appreciate Frank's fairness and honesty--much more so than other competitors.  I have little respect for forceful sales techniques, and we had none of this from Frank.  It's safe to say the end results of the project are a direct reflection of Frank's professionalism.
