Basement Finishing by Hartel Constr. Grp., Inc.
We had heard good things about Hartel Group prior to hiring them but when we called we knew right away that this was the best company to go with to finish our basement. Martin and his crew were very professional, courteous, and, most importantly, communicative. Every step he took he walked us through it and did an excellent job of explaining how he did things. Our opinions and desires were taken into consideration and, if Martin knew of a better option for us, either cost effective or more suitable to the overall construction of the room, he explained it to us so that we could understand. We were able to keep in constant communication with him, ask questions, and the feedback he offered us was invaluable. He and his team did an excellent job within an acceptable amount of time and was very flexible when it came to last minute requests or concerns, within reason of course. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

    Inch by Inch Construction, Inc.
Very nice job. Kept us informed on progress, when he would be coming, etc. Accurate in estimates of when phases of project would be complete. Considerate of kids and new baby in the house and arranged construction schedule around their schedules as much as he could. Used subcontractors for plumbing, heating, paint; these individuals were all punctual and professional. Meticulous in attention to fine details. Worked hard to blend addition in with the pre-existing part of the house. Checked in at several time points after completion of project. There were a few minor problems once we started using the room, and he addressed these rapidly and effectively. Final project looks terrific. The whole thing was finished in about 12 weeks.

    HomeRite of Central PA
Met Andy on a Saturday at our home. Discussed numerous options. No pressure sell. Spoke to Home Rite crew several times over 2 months prior to making decision. One month later job complete. New master lock needed to be ordered, of course.

    AIM Garage Doors
I had asked for installation of the outside keypad which they did quickly and very well.  They programmed two different codes, one for each door.  They were quite willing to do a couple other things for me I hadn't thought of until they were here like program a new opener for my sons cars.  They also adjusted the openers and both doors of the garage because they noticed they weren't running smoothly.
This is a husband and wife team who are extremely professional, honest and capable.  I actually enjoyed interacting with them and would trust them with a bigger job.  I'm thinking about getting new doors put on and I will definitely work with them on that.

Calder Door refused to perform service for this repair.  The outside button for the opener was not functional.  The power opener allows for a wheelchair-bound or physically challenged person to safely enter the building.  Calder stated that, as it was an electrical issue, not a "door" issue, they wouldn't support the product.
As a service-oriented  business owner, I find it very telling when a business won't support a product they install.  I won't be using their services in the future, and cannot in good faith recommend them to others.

    Mel Kelley Design/Build LLC
Our front door had been installed by a contractor with Lowes. There were several problems with the door after the installation - the door didn't close well and the whole door frame wiggled. In addition, we hadn't finished the inside of the door framing and needed to have that completed as well.
The door had to be pretty much removed and re-seated in the opening. There was some warping that had occurred since the original installation and they did the best they could to get it all to fit well and solidly.
The trim work and paint was done very well.
Overall we are very satisfied with the work they did and their attention to detail.

    Aspen Home Improvements
We initially contacted Aspen in September 2014 as part of the quoting process for replacing our old and leaking entry door and odd colored shutters that came with the house when we bought it.
The quoting process was great, and we quickly got an estimate. Even though the price was higher than the competitors we decided to go with Aspen after reading reviews here and based on our feeling after the quote that everything would be handled professionally and we would receive a quality installation.
We placed the order and a large down payment with Aspen prior to the end of September 2014 with the assurance that the install would be completed by the Thanksgiving Holiday in November. We had a large gathering planned for Thanksgiving and wanted the project completed before that, and before the weather turned too cold.
Shortly before the Thanksgiving Holiday we were informed that the door would not be ready for installation as planned, but might be ready sometime in December due to an issue getting the glass that was ordered for the side lights and transom from the factory. But this would be without the correct transom glass which was apparently a special order, this was not noted in the brochure used to pick the glass or discussed during the purchase, and would result in an additional 3 months delay to receive the glass. It was agreed that the door would be installed with a temporary piece of glass for the transom until the ordered piece could be received, at which point it would be installed.
Aspen/ their vendor did compensate us for this delay but upgrading the steel door we ordered to fiberglass door at no charge to us, which was very much appreciated.
Unfortunately December turned into the new year and the door, along with the shutters, was actually installed in mid January. The door itself was high quality and the installation techs worked hard and did a fine job. The side lights were correct and looked great.
However the pieces that were supplied for the exterior of the door surround were not correct and were about 6" too narrow in total, resulting in an odd and unfinished look to the door.  All of the dimensions for the door assembly were taken by Aspen during the quoting process and were supposedly verified again by Aspen during a follow up measurement that occurred about two weeks after the order was placed.
Also instead of an actual piece of temporary insulated glass for the transom, we received an 1/8" piece of plexiglass which didn't seal very well and flexed quite a bit with the breeze.
After notifying Aspen immediately about the exterior door surround pieces and sending pictures and measurements, it was agreed that it was not correct. New items were ordered and the pieces installed at the end of January 2015. The transom was still clear plexiglass, but we did receive notification that the actual transom glass was due in at the end of February.
At this point Aspen notified us that the remainder of the payment for the door had to be processed to keep our special financing promotion. So this was done with the agreement that the transom glass would be installed at no additional cost upon arrival.
We were notified on February 24 that the transom glass had finally arrived to the Aspen warehouse and that we would be contacted to setup the installation shortly. After about two weeks we did get contacted to setup the installation. There was a small mis-communication between Aspen and the door vendor, who would perform the install, that resulted in the delay and shipping the glass.
The transom glass was installed on March 13, 2015, unfortunately it was not the exact glass that was ordered and doesn't exactly match the side lights. It's certainly close, but for the price paid we expected to get what was ordered.
Overall we're pretty disappointed in the whole process, both with the time it took to complete and with the general handling of the order. Now we have a brand new door that looks pretty good but just a bit off, because the glass doesn't quite match as it should.
I will say that Aspen was open to communications during the process and did what they could to help us out. But there just doesn't seem to be much quality control in place to ensure that what goes out to customers is actually correct, or that what is offered can actually be delivered in the time frame as quoted.

The team was very professional but initially the measurements taken were wrong so the glass they ordered was not the correct. Overall, I had to wait for about 3 months for the job to be completed. At the end it was done well.

    West Shore
We were in the market for a replacement entry door, not just a Lowes special but a full replacement.
So we decided to go to the showroom to check out some sample doors and were surprised to find that we could have a representative come to our house that evening to give us a detailed estimate for the replacement door.
Having read the reviews on West Shore already we expected a slightly high pressure sales technique. But again, we were pleasantly surprised. The representative we spoke with was very easy going and very well informed on the products. He took the time to answer all of our questions and explain the whole procedure to us. There was absolutely no pressure for us to buy anything. Although there was an option given for a lower price if we did decide to sign the deal on the spot. We didn't mind them offering that option and I'm sure it does work for them, but for us price wasn't the driving factor for the purchase.
The quality of the materials for the doors appeared top notch and there were numerous options and adders that could be had. We really liked the program that was used to build the door and the representative even did a quick "photoshop" of the door onto a picture of our house so we could get an idea of what it would actually look like. And being an engineer I appreciated the small sample doors to be able to actually see the construction and materials.
At the end of the day we chose to go with a different supplier for a few reasons, price not being one of them. We were contacted by their offices again after we notified them of our decision; which is fine by me you can't blame them for trying to speak with someone to find out if they would reconsider.
Although we chose a different company this time, I wouldn't have any concerns about contacting West Shore again next time we need something home improvement related.
