  • Jeff fixed our aging GE washer nearly 3 years ago and we called him again when we suspected a mouse/chipmunk made its way into our dryer. He responded to my voice message within a half hour and was able to get to the house within a couple of business hours. As with our earlier experience, he arrived exactly when he said he would, quickly assessed the situation, fixed the issue (extracting the chipmunk), cleaned the area and charged a fair price. He was professional and nice - and made helpful recommendations about our dryer vent set-up. Jeff is great and we will continue to call on him when necessary and confidently refer him to family and friends.

  • My Gaggenau double oven is not heating up properly. I called Gaggenau, but they don't have their own technician in main line, and gave me a list of authorized service providers. I chose AJ appliance from the list because of their high rating on Angie's list. 
    The appointment process was difficult. It took 4 appointments and 3 weeks for the tech to finally show up. They cancelled twice because "one tech unexpectedly could not work today". Another time I requested an appointment before noon because I'm out of town that afternoon. Although the appointment was made one week before, they were not able to make the time frame, and we had to reschedule. Each time, the cancellation or reschedule occurred on the day of the appointment, while I was already waiting at home.
    The technician checked my oven today. He obviously was not familiar with the controls of my oven, and was fumbling with the buttons and the control board. I actually had to show him how to set the temperature in order to test the unit out. In addition, during the process, he made a few remarks that showed lack of knowledge about the unit. For example, at some point, he commented that the oven was not in the convection mode, while it actually was and he recognized it after I pointed out. Then he asked to see the owner's manual, which sank my heart even further. Long story short, he spent two hours changing the oven temperature and stared at it. Eventually he told me, yes, there was a problem with the oven, and the control board needs to be changed. This control board thing sounded totally just a guess to me. Needless to say, I had no confidence in this diagnosis whatsoever. 
    I called Gaggenau immediately after he left. I learned that apparently as Gaggenau's authorized service provider, they have access to a Gaggenau technician, and are supposed to call when they encounter problems on the field that they cannot fix. (BTW apparently Gaggenau does not provide any training to their certified service provider, nor verify their technical knowledge to service their units.)
    Then I called AJ appliance, reported the issue I had with the technician, and asked them if they could send out another qualified technician to deal with my oven. The girl who took the call was very rude. She did not even wait for me to explain the reason I called, before hurriedly saying "the tech is still out, there's nothing I can do now". I managed to keep her on the line, explained my problem. Then she put me on hold; a couple of minutes later she returned to say, you'll have to speak with a manager. I was supposedly transferred to the manager, but the phone just went silent. After 2 minutes of nothing on the other end, I had to hang up. I tried to call back immediately, but no one picked up the phone. 
    What I paid: 4 mornings' wait spanning over 3 weeks; 2 hours with the tech staring at the oven; $132.5 out of pocket

  • I would give Costello's Electrical Service As straight across. I would use them again in the future. He came on short noticed, diagnosed the problem immediately, fixed the problem, and was very reasonable in cost. He knew exactly what he was doing and it was not expensive.

  • The price was extremely reasonable. This is a small company, I think its just the man and his son. They sometimes tend to get lost and take wrong turns so I give them a "C" on punctuality. But they are very dear and do a great job.

  • They came to look at everything and gave me pricing and they came out to fix the items. They were honest. They were just great. The service mans name was Carmen and he was wonderful. The prices were reasonable and completed everything in a satisfactory way. I have refered them to friends and family as well.

  • We bought a Liebherr wine cooler from Jon Gerhard (of Gerhard Ardmore) for $4600.   We could have bought it for less through the web, but wanted to buy local for future service.  It was nicely delivered in July.  We also own a Liebherr wine cooler and freezer, which was not making ice properly, and we needed someone to service it.  I called the Gerhard Ardmore Service group to see if they could help.  I was quickly told that, although they do sell and service this brand and model, since I did not buy it there, they would not service it.  I stated that it did not need to be done under warranty, just fixed and I would pay the going rate.  They simply said no, and hung up.  I then sent an email directly to Jon (address on his card) with this story, asking if this could be discussed, and did not receive a reply.  I then sent an email to Gerhard service with same request, never received a reply.   We had hoped that, not only had we purchased an expensive wine cooler from them (along with a GE Monogram microwave from the Frazer store), but we had also established a relationship should we need purchases, or service, down the line, as we are in the neighborhood of the Ardmore store. Long story short, we called Liebherr, got the name of another service group (Appliance Surgeon, Philadelphia), who did a great job - responsive, right first time, reasonable price.  

    So, we are disappointed.  From this experience, our take-away is, for Gerhard, buy for the product (in truth, the sales experience was fast, and they do have a good product selection), but not for the follow-on relationship or service.

  • Thoroughly checked the machine, did not find anything wrong, recommended not using the highest water setting.  Seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. Said the $72 visit fee could be applied to any work done on the machine in the future. Would definitely use again.

  • I called Jeff on a Saturday about our dryer not working. He returned my message that day and we arranged to meet on Monday morning. He called before coming over and arrived within the time window he had previously given me. Within an hour, Jeff had diagnosed and fixed the problem AND cleaned up after himself. He is a very friendly person and made the whole process easy. I would hire him again and recommend him to friends.
