ABasement Waterproofing SpecialistsWe first met with Ken from Basement Waterproofing Specialists at a home show in our area. After speaking with SEVERAL waterproofing vendors at the home show, Ken was the ONLY provider who actually listened to our description of the problem we were having (which was NOT a flooded basement, but rather was what appeared to be the seeping of outside water through the basement cinder block walls in the middle of the wall). Ken did not try to offer a solution to a flooded basement (sump pump, etc) as all the others on that day, since we had NEVER had water in our basement and made that clear to all the vendors we spoke to. Needless to say, we had Basement Waterproofing Specialists come to our home for an estimate as soon as possible. The estimate was thorough, and although the cost for the work needed seemed to be high (I had never had this kind of work done in the past so had no frame of reference for the costs), we negotiated a bit and were provided with a full breakdown of all the costs and a complete understanding of what work was to be completed and why it was necessary. Never once were we "upsold" or made to feel that we had a dangerous situation in our home. (scare tactics that I hear sometimes are used on homeowners were NEVER used on us by this company). The estimate process was informative and thorough and we felt confident that the job would be done well by this company. We were also assured that there would be no "additional" costs once the contract was signed. The company stayed true to this promise and we never paid one cent more than what were were quoted! We agreed to have the work start as soon as possible and the crew arrived 2 days later. Although they had to travel almost 3 hours to our home, we live in NE PA, they arrived in the morning and worked well past 5 each day (one day they were here until 8PM!) We were told the work would take one week and it was completed by noon on the 5th day. The crew that was sent to my home were professional, pleasant, respectful, and very hard working (it was as cold as 10 degrees outside, yet they worked all day digging and even shoveled some snow one morning to clear the driveway for their vehicles). I was home during the entire job and at times, I could hear them singing while they worked!! They discovered when they dug up the ground to waterproof one section my home, that the sewer pipe had been leaking (despite the fact that I had the water company had come out in september to check for leaks) and showed me the leak. I contacted the water company who sent out a crew to address the pipe, since I pay for sewer and water line protection insurance. Scott, from Basement Waterproofing called me to discuss the situation and gave me valuable advice for my discussion with the sewer company repair contractor. The foreman on my job from basement waterproofing (Tom) worked with the sewer contractor and coordinated the work efforts so that I did not incur any additional costs or delays in either job. Again, it was a pleasant experience for me! Although having your front yard dug up at this time of year is stressful, I have to say that I had the most positive experience dealing with ALL representatives from Basement Waterproofing. Scott, from the office called me regularly to check on the job and Tom and the crew working here were fantastic! When they worked inside my home, they were clean and I never had to clean up any outside dirt from them when they left. They stuck to their quoted work and actually completed an extra item or two at no additional charge that came up during the job. I have already recommended Basement Waterproofing Specialists to my friends and neighbors and will continue to do so! We are VERY satisfied and would like to thank them for a job well done!- Christine B.

ADr. Energy Saver, a division of Burke ConstructionJust getting ready to start the job 12/20/12. Been in contact with Matt on my project. He came out to give me an estimate and I felt his price was fair especially since the company is using commercial grade equipment. I chose Burke because they were the ONLY company who did not try to sell me more than what I needed. Every time I emailed Matt with questions(which I have a lot of), he responded in such a quick and professional manner. They are actually starting my job 1 week earlier than scheduled. Since I had just purchased the house I wasn't sure where I was going to come up with the money. Matt had told me we could work something out as far as payments. Show me another contractor who doesn't want their money right away??? In all seriousness, I had a hard time giving them my deposit. Never once did I feel pressured into anything. Will keep you up dated on the job(fingers crossed) The project is finished. Met the crew who did the encapsulation and insulation, 2 great guy to deal with. Answered all my questions. They tried to finish the job on a SNOWY Sat afternoon but they were told not to come by. They came over on Sunday to complete the job. Everything was done exactly as I was told. Matt had come by on Monday to look things over and answered any other questions I may have had. Also told me other ways to make my house more efficient (work they did not perform but could get me in touch with people who did) Very pleased with everything. Would do business with again in a heart beat.- alex n.

ACRAWL SPACE REPAIRIf you want a Professional, from problem identification, estimation to completion, I recommend Dennis Kose and his team. He has solid communications and project management skills and his team is responsible and careful. Several months after the work, i can attest that the water problem continued to be remediated and looked like the team had finished up yesterday. [*** Link removed ***] Cost included some electrical work that needed resolution.- Mary L.

FShamrock Construction IncJohn left multiple problems in my house, including a heater which was never connected to electricity, a floor that when a toilet overflowed, leaked onto my kitchen counter, and a heated floor that shorted out in about a month due to faulty craftsmanship. The shower floor is also pitted and buckling. John did not pay attention to my family’s needs and I had to argue with him to install something as simple as enough towel hooks for my children. I tried for several months to contact him, but he either refused to take my calls or said he’d get back to me and disappeared- and this was after agreeing that the problems were his fault and needed fixing. If you want your job finished competently, DO NOT USE SHAMROCK CONSTRUCTION!!!- Dawn W.

AB-DRY SYSTEM of Northeastern PASo far, no water issues, however it has not been tested by the Spring thaw. It has performed during multiple heavy rain storms. Price was significantly higher than other similar systems. I felt their method/type of pipe (that was really the only difference) made more engineering sense, but honestly don't think the larger price differential was necessary. If it works as advertised, though, I will feel it money well spent.- Charles S.

AMichael Therriault ContractingThe team was very knowledgeable in assessing all of our work needs, and timely in scheduling and completing the work. I recommend Therriault Contracting to anyone who is looking for quality work that is professionally done at a fair price.- Jonyce B.

AI want to thank everyone for the amazing job they did on my basement. Lars explained everything to me when he came out to give me a price and answered all my questions. He took the time to explain everything that his team was going to do and he gave me the time to make up my mind without any pressure. They helped me with the financing for the work and the women in the office were a great help in getting it all set up and making everything so easy. They worked with my schedule when they were scheduling the work. The men who came out did a fantastic job and cleaned up every day they were working. Everyone involved was very helpful with everything from beginning to end. Again thank you all so much!

AWe needed to have the attic insulated the way it should have been done originally so we called on Dr Energy Saver because it was a division of Burke Construction. This was the fourth job we have had done by Burke including having a total bathroom makeover, a complete remodeling of a kitchen/dining room, window replacement (at the same time as the kitchen/dining room, and the construction-from-scratch of new basement stairs. We knew going in that the job would cost more than other companies might charge, but we were also confident that the work would be outstanding. The work included sealing any gaps where air can exit up through the ceiling into the attic, adding insulation and adding a floor, and as the final touch, creating an insulated and sealed box to be placed over the pull-down attic stairs, one of the biggest uninsulated and leaky parts of the ceiling. Our house has some oddities of construction that the crew had to be creative in solving, and the team did so not only coming up with I-never-thought-of-that solutions but without the extra nickel and dimeing another company might do, and they were very conscientious about not just getting it right, but making it excellent, including returning promptly to correct the couple of the usual unforseeable eventualities. The crew was also very careful to minimize the mess and to clean up afterwards. We will have to wait until next winter to quantify savings in our electric bill, but this cold spring has given us a taste of what is to come with the elimination of the chilly spots that existed before the work was done. Would we have Burke Construction in our home again? Without a doubt.

ABogdan has done work for us during the last several years, from installing an attic fan, a bathroom fan and vent, roof repair, vinyl siding repair, interior painting, to most recently installing a beam over a covered deck to level a sagging roof. Bogdan has consistently done excellent work, always seeking to do the best job that can be done. He is also patient and very polite. My elderly mother with whom I live also thinks very highly of him. In addition to the work that he has already done for his, we have talked with him of doing additional work for us.

Property Inspections for Home and or Buildings, Private Commercial or otherwise
Recent Review:
DWe asked our realtor for a “pit bull” inspector and she recommended this company. We were present with the inspector and asked a lot of questions and listened intently to his concerns and observations. We left feeling like we had some issues but nothing major. Well, after settlement it became clear that the inspector missed a huge carpenter ant infestation that damaged the entire back of the house including walls and beams. He missed leaking windows and pipes that had cause mold and mildew damage in two separate areas of the house. He missed several areas of roof damage and a decaying rotting exterior chime to structure. When I pointed to the ceiling and said is that brown spot a leak he said no, that’s just a missed paint spot! We made settlement after what we thought was a good inspection report. It turns out that we had to spend tens of thousands of dollars on critical repairs that the inspector missed or assured us were minor. The roof and window leaks were severe. The carpenter ant infestation was critical. Needless to say we were very angry and extremely disappointed that these things got missed and we got misled. We would not recommend this inspector to others.

FI dealt with Mellon following a devastating fire involving smoke damage to my home. This company provides the worst service I have ever seen, in any aspect. Very unprofessional. Even more bothersome is the lack of honesty, which pervades each and every employee from Jim the owner to Sue the customer service rep to the manager Charlie and Phil. The work was done subpar and a shop vac stolen from my house. Our move-in was jeopardized by incomplete work and heavy smoke odor following 8 months of displacement. The paint job is the worst I have ever seen. When questioned, Charlie was so insulting and rude. Phil the project manager texted me at work 40 times arguing about incomplete work and damaged porch furniture. Sue was difficult to deal with and reach and made payment difficult with questionable professionalism in handling checks from State Farm insurance. It took a letter addressed to Jim Mellon to resolve my issues, and he short-changed us on furniture damaged by his employees. This was after months of trying to work through the issues created by Mellon Restoration. Mellon Restoration made a difficult situation 100 times worse. Getting someone to come to fix the poor workmanship was like pulling teeth, and still incomplete. The leather furniture that was left in the rain and ruined was "reimbursed" $400, which we accepted to just get on with our lives. This company listened to our complaints of damaged and stolen property, poor workmanship, and rude behavior and made it seem as if we were trying to get something that was not paid for. This was reinforced by every company employee. I cannot even express the frustration and stress caused by Mellon Restoration.
