General Contracting reviews in Glenside

    Riccardi Contracting
We were pleased in the beginning and understanding of delays. We are pleased with his crews work. His electrical subcontractor was awesome. Wish we could say the same for Dave.... Communication was fine in the beginning until the job really got started. Dave's rude attitude, and know it all behavior spewed out of him, even more so after things seemed to be irritating him. The job got to say 85% complete and then he dropped the ball and ignored us. We felt he put us at the end of his list every time. At this point, he instructed we communicated no longer with him, but with his secretary ( guessing family member) in order to wrap the job up. From that point on things did not progress. He ignored us and left us to find our own subs to finish the job. They could never provide definitive answers and always the run around. We were lucky to get the load of trash off our property after a month. He does not believe in punch lists either. The last straw was when we received a text message berating us for unforeseen conditions, long on invective and totally irrelevant to the job....Dave did not take responsibility for damages caused by his crew and would not come out to make amends when we gave him numerous opportunities before reviewing him. He does not believe in professionalism and does not stay true to his word. Also, his only 2 positive reviews are family members or bogus clients. STAY AWAY!!!!!

    Last Detail Custom Carpentry
Great, overall! Yes, there were some delays to start, as anyone who does good work is usually booked up. There was another delay at the end to get some custom doors installed. These were ordered by me, not arranged by Gregg, but took longer than expected to get them back out to finish up the "last detail". But I am happy with the quality of work done, and Gregg's willingness to work with me, as I had flooring and a couple of other options performed by other contractors which would have been sub-contracted anyway. I would definitely use Last Detail again. I would like to emphasize that a knowledgeable contractor can give line-item estimates. Anyone who cannot detail their estimate will cut corners. And any contractor who suggests ways to do work without getting permits, you should definitely avoid. I took a lot of time to review credentials and proposals, and I could have gotten a lower total price elsewhere, but I went with Gregg because it was clear he would do the job correctly, the first time around, and the price was reasonable.

    Last Detail Custom Carpentry
The 2 bathrooms in our property were, basically, original to the home - a 1951 side split. The toilets and one vanity had been replaced, but with inferior product. All the tile, however, was original. Blue and pink in the hall bath, grey and pink in the small en-suite. We started with the hall bath. Everything was removed, apart from the tub, which they took care not to damage. I wanted to keep the original tub, and Gregg arranged for it to be refinished later in the project (from dark blue to white!). During demolition, lead pipes were discovered. Gregg let us know promptly and indicated what needed to be done, and the approximate costs involved. We had a small problem with the floor tile, and again this was quickly taken care of. It was a miscalculation by the vendor, and not Gregg's fault. Once this bathroom was complete, we took a short break before starting on our small en-suite. Again, everything was demolished, in order for the remodel to take shape. Two closets were removed, making way for a much larger shower cubicle, complete with full glass enclosure. The end result in both bathrooms is fantastic, particularly our en-suite which seems so much bigger and brighter. I had a very clear vision of how I wanted both rooms to look, and I can't say enough about how Gregg and everyone involved worked to make that happen. They arrive promptly, get straight down to work, and make every effort to keep disruption and mess to a minimum.
This is the second time we have used Last Detail Carpentry for a project, however, this one was considerably more involved than our previous update. We still have more work to do on our home, and wouldn't hesitate to use Gregg in the future.

    Lighthouse Handyman Service
Larry did an excellent job repairing our fence. He came over on one very hot day, removed the old damaged pickets and installed our replacement pickets. The work was done well, and a month later, looks good and has held up very well. The spacing and leveling were top notch considering we gave Larry replacement pickets that were probably 10-15 years old. Larry was professional in his quote, pleasant, and he was punctual when coming out for the estimate and the work. I'd gladly hire him again.

During a prior visit he screwed down underflooring in rooms where the
carpeting was being replaced, but we identified that it wasn't enough
    for a specific area.
Mr. Diefenderfer took some measurements of the
beams in my basement and we discussed the options to correct the
problem. His first suggestion was to put in a vertical pole to support a
new beam. This had been done in another part of the basement, but I
didn't want to do it again, since it would hurt the possibility of
    finishing the basement, in the future. We settled on putting in and quot;Sisterand quot;
joists, to supplement the joists that the builder put in 25 years ago, when the house was new.
He went out and purchased the materials and came back and completed the work. Total time was a little over 3 hours.
Three new beams were both glued and screwed onto three existing beams, to give them more rigidity. During the install, some duct work had to be removed and replaced and some house wiring was relocated.
This was the 3rd job that Mr. Diefenderfer has done for me. I've been completely satisfied with each instance. He has lots of experience and is resourceful in figuring out the best way to fix a problem

    JRL Design Inc

After speaking with multiple contractors about the four projects JRL Design was by far the most professional.  Jim Lebair contacted me shortly after I made my initial call and made an appointment around our busy schedule to come out and take a look at the scope of the four projects.  Jim and his site manager Marty DeRocco showed up on time and really listened to what we envisioned all of the projects to be at their completion.

The first project was to remove twenty-seven very old windows and replace them the Pella Architect Series replacement windows.  Being a Certified Pella Installer, JRL insulated and filled all of the spaces around the interior of the windows and they capped all the exterior trim with a high quality capping material that perfectly matched the window color.  We now have windows that are not only functional but very energy efficient.

The second project was to remove and replace our front door.  We worked with one of Jim's suppliers and picked out a door that was a bit smaller than the original.  Marty came up with a plan and created beautiful interior/exterior  trim that would fill in the void created by the smaller door we selected.  It came out perfect and we are very pleased.

The third project was a complete kitchen remodel.  The JRL team came up with a layout that we discussed over several meetings at the JRL showroom.  The plans allowed us to view our new kitchen in 3D and really get an idea of the end result.  Jim was very willing to listen to our needs and make changes as we got closer to the final plans.  His showroom allowed us to select our cabinets and get a head start on picking out all of the finishing touches.   Marty's craftsmanship and attention to detail is top notch and we couldn't be happier.

The fourth project was a complete remodel of two bedrooms and a walk-in closet on our third floor.  This was an extremely challenging project because we needed to demolish all of the plaster and lathe in all three rooms and find a way to get it out of the house safely and with as little dust as possible.  We also had to get 56 sheets of drywall into the space.  The JRL team figured out a way and the dust in the rest of the house was minimal at best.  JRL ran a new electric line from the basement to a new panel on the third floor and we installed baseboard heat and an attic fan.  They also insulated the entire space.  Again, the end result is perfect.

Prior to each project Jim provided us with a detailed schedule that kept us up to date on things and that really helped us coordinate all of the supplies that needed to be delivered.  Marty contacted me daily and made sure I was aware of any issues that needed to be discussed further.  When an issue did arise we never felt pressured into making a quick decision and Jim would come out and we would all make a group decision that made the most sense and stayed within our budget.

All of the sub-contractors used by JRL were also very professional and all of the work performed was of high quality.  Each day the work area was neat and they took great care in not disturbing the rest of our house.  This couldn't have been a better experience and I would highly recommend JRL to anyone in the need of home remodeling.

JRL was a pleasure to work with.

Matt was top notch from start to finish. After the initial phone call, he came out to our house to look at the work to be completed. He was not only on time for the meeting, but called ahead to verify that it was still a go. We really appreciated that. Matt greeted me with a firm hand shake, and proceeded to assess the work. After he took some measurements, he discussed solutions to the problem with me, and we agreed that he would be in touch, with an estimate. A few days later, true to form, he got back to me with a detailed estimate. He was not pushy, and did not hassle me about an answer. I called him a week after receiving the estimate, and we set up a start date.

He was in contact with me, as the week approached, and answered any questions I had. It came to light that the company I work for was facing some financial trouble, and it looked like I was out of a job. We rescheduled for a month later, and Matt was okay with it all. I really felt badly, because when I commit to something, I don't like to back out for any reason. Matt reassured me that it was alright, and to just let him know if anything else changed. The start date was a week out, and I got the call from Matt, to confirm that we could proceed as planned. Luckily we were, and he started on a Friday with the demo.

He and his worker, Eric arrived on time, and in good spirits. They got right to work, after Matt discussed with me, what they would be doing. After removing the existing flooring in the Attic, he discovered knob and tube wiring, which we both suspected would be there. He called his electrician, after getting my approval to do so. The electrician came out that following Monday and gave us an estimate. Matt was understanding that funds were tight, and allowed us to pay him at a later date, and he would pay the electrician. We were truly impressed at that point. Not that we weren't before, but that put him above and beyond. Matt installed the structural members without a hitch. His electrician, and insulation guys both came, and were equally professional. Matt came back after they were through, and installed the new 3/4and quot; plywood flooring. I came home from today, and thought my wife had vacuumed the house. Come to find out, Matt and Eric vacuumed, and there was literally no trace that they were here, other than the finished attic.

Matt quickly earned our trust, and as Naval Veterans, that is not an easy feat. There is no doubt that we will utilize Matt's services in the future. Thanks Matt and Eric for your great work!

John came very promptly after my call for help when my handyman found more extensive damage than could be handled.  John returned next day with an assistant and completed the work at the quoted price, even though demolition revealed somewhat more extensive problem which he fixed.

Rick returned my call for an estimate within 24 hours and made an appointment within 2 days. He gave me a written estimate stating all work that would be completed. When asked, Rick gave me names and phones of previous customers. After calling them and getting excellent recommendations, I selected Rick and his company to perform the work. He required a 10% deposit which I thought was quite reasonable, and he gave me an approximate start date. The project started on time and took approximately 6 and 1/2 days to complete. Everything was done to my complete satisfaction. The workmen were prompt and very courteous, and performed their jobs very skillfully. I would highly recommend Rick and his staff without hesitation.

    JRL Design Inc
We had a wonderful experience with JRL Design. Jim was approachable, responsive, helpful, professional and delivered high quality work. One thing that stood out to us was how quickly Jim responded to calls/emails. From the very beginning, he was in touch frequently to get the project off the ground. Once the project was underway, I always felt our house was in excellent hands. Jim was also very honest and upfront about all aspects of the project, which was very refreshing (especially in this industry). He always had our budget in mind and would offer alternatives to stay within this budget. Jim stayed involved throughout the entire project, stopping in frequently to check on the progress and touch base. Our experience with JRL Design was truly outstanding and we recommend them highly!
