Deck Building reviews in Gilbertsville

  • Josh and his crew did an outstanding job in removing an old wooden deck and replaced it with a new composite deck. Their workmanship and efficiency created a deck that will meet our needs for many years. All original materials and debris were removed from the site including an old broken hot tub. Final cleanup left the site better than new. From the design stage with Aaron to final completion I would highly recommend this company for anyone desiring quality work.

  • Work was done timely and professionally and Matt and his team were great with our changes and also had useful suggestions of their own. Overall we are happy with the project. This was the second time I had used Chesco and will call on them for future orojects without hesitation.

  • Paul was very eager to have us sign a contract last Fall when we got a deck estimate. After considering multiple estimates we went with Paul because he said he didn't subcontract and we liked the optional lighting options. When we were ready to get started this Spring Paul wasn't as responsive and took longer to get started. We also were surprised to see it wasn't him building or supervising the building of the deck. Instead he uses other deck builders that he hires (basically subcontracting). The construction of the deck was fine, though when we had an issue and my wife called him upset, he said he wasn't going to talk to her, but needed to speak with me. Not very professional for a man in the business 25 years. The stairs were also supposed to be 4' wide. I happened to measure when they were done and realized they were more like 42". When I asked him about it, he said in construction things aren't always exact. (Really?) I am giving him a C because overall we are happy with the finished product, but there were some issues as noted. Oh, also we wanted to use a credit card to earn point and his Angie's List profile says he accepts credit cards. When I went to do so he told me that they don't accept credit cards. Needs to correct his profile.

  • Rick and his team were excellent.  I had a roughly 320 sq ft deck of pressure treated wood that had aged beyond simple board replacements.  Granted, not a I was looking for a composite deck solution that would minimize the need for maintenance, but also wanted certain changes to be made as part of the renovation.
I scheduled an assessment with Archadeck along with three other candidates.  Compared to the others, Rick's earnest and straight-forward approach immediately caught my attention.  He explained the benefits and drawbacks of various options, and was clearly focused on seeking out what worked best for my particular situation.  He wasn't pushing any particular product line or "up-sell"; he just wanted to find the best solution.  Of the four potentials, he was one of two that I requested a proposal.
In the end, it was his consideration of what I was seeking and his approach to helping me determine what was best (not to mention his impeccable credentials and references) the made Archadeck the obvious choice.
When the day arrived, he personally introduced me to his team.  Both were locals and had decades of experience.  They surveyed the situation, and asked me very specific and appropriate questions.  I had asked for a couple of non-standard requests, but they handled them as though they were everyday occurrences.  They even knew how to address certain vinyl siding issues particular to my situation.
In the end, they finished on time and on budget - but the craftsmanship was truly impressive.  They didn't just replace decking; they ensured that the overall result was greater than resurfacing.  Even with a few last-minute curve-balls thrown, they produced a superior result.
One last note that I'd like to include:  During the delivery of the disposal bin, the contractor damaged our driveway.  Rick came over, surveyed the situation, and asked me who I'd like to come and repair it at his cost.  To me, that was a man worth doing business with:  he asked ME who I'd like to come and repair it.  No "I know a guy", no "let the insurance handle it" - he worked with me to have someone of my choosing come and repair the driveway at his cost.
Although I'm sure that my deck was a relatively average job, Rick ensured the job was completed to the highest of standards. And as I got to know his team while they we here, I can vouch for their dedication, as well.
While their price is not the lowest, it is clearly competitive.  But the end result is probably about the best value you'll find around here.

  • I was so displeased with the estimate that I'd never hire this company. The man who came out, I believe the owner, had no interpersonal skills whatsoever. He was punctual, but seemed as though he had no desire to be there or get the job. My townhouse is in the middle of a row of 6 homes. I told him I wasn't exactly sure of what I wanted, but had an idea. There was a VERY rough sketch done in front of me just based off of random measurements I said (as mentioned, I wasn't exactly sure of what I wanted or a good size dependent on the house). After the very brief meeting (barely 5-10 minutes), he rushed out and said he would send a copy of the estimate. The estimate was emailed to me later that same evening, and wasn't impressive at all. No drawings or illustrations of what the deck would look like. There was only one baseline price listed and several options to upgrade for a hefty price. He must be crazy if he thinks I'm going to sign for an acceptance of the proposal
I had a second estimate done the same day by another company, and wow, what a difference. The second company had the owner come out as well. He was very polite and really took his time. I told him rougly what I wanted just like in the first estimate, and then he took the time to measure and walk out 3 different deck lengths for me. He had also made suggestions for different materials and layouts, and asked questions regarding what kind of upkeep and pricing I was looking to stay within. I got an email the very next day and was really impressed to begin with. I was provided with not only a scaled computer representation of the deck, but also dimensional drawings with examples of how patio furniture would look in the space. They also gave a suggested budget, but also forwardly said they would be willing to make any changes in order to fit the budget I had in mind. Thats what I'm looking for in a contractor. Someone who is willing to go above and beyond to get the job, and is enthusiastic about it!

  • The Murphy Construction Group LLC was engaged with us from our initial phone contact.  Prior to the project started them meet with us multiple times to ensure that they captured our plans and they meet our requirements.  Moreover, they took the extra step to be on site when the initial excavating was performed to make sure of the proper pool placement and followed with regular status calls so that they came in just-in-time, built the desk, added electric and made out back yard a summer success.
As an added note of the Murphy Construction Group LLC professionalism, the team actually took extra time to address electrical issues we were having inside our home.  They spent hours look for and replacing GFI failures.  Again, they just went Above and Beyond!  We can not say enough, what excellent Service Providers/Contractor these guys are...  Highly Recommended!

  • Ken was very responsive after our first phone call. He came out and we had an estimate for the work within two days. We compared the prices with three other contractors and he was very reasonable. He started work when he said he would and completed within less than a week. Excellent workmanship. He followed all township reqirements and acquired all permits for the job. We are very happy and pleased with his work from start to finish.

  • My wife and I were extremely impressed when we first met this company and were receiving estimates. Unfortunately, they also took their time providing two customer references, canceled two home appointments last minute to finalize plans, and reused to accept anything less than 90% of the cost down prior to completing the deck. The company suddenly withdrew their proposal when they realized we weren't going to pay them 90% of the cost prior to them completing the project. I suggest future consumers considering doing business with this company discuss payment terms prior to choosing to do business with this company. What a waste of time over the last two months!
