    AdvantaClean of Pittsburgh North
Fantastic. When we requested a quote for the mold remediation work, Brian of AdvantaClean of Pittsburgh North went into the attic to assess the situation and discussed the issue with us. We also had an issue with ventilation in the attic that led to the mold (no soffit vents and inadequate ridge venting). Brian looked into and recommended an alternative ventilation solution that would not require any roofing work. He provided a quote with options for both the mold remediation and ventilation. We opted to go with the mold remediation only. Brian took the time to stay and discuss the issues and options. He is dependable, punctual, professional, and a pleasure to do business with. We were happy with the work he did to take care of the mold. He was careful to clean up at the end of each day (2.5 days total for the 985 sq ft attic) and was efficient. To remove the mold he set the attic under negative pressure with a HEPA air scrubber, HEPA vacuumed the rafters, sheathing, and joists, wire brushed areas of heavy growth, used a chlorine-based spray, an antimicrobial, and finished by applying a spray-on anti-microbial sealant. We would work with AdvantaClean of Pittsburgh North again and would recommend them.

Prior to moving-in to this house, I conducted my own radon measurement test as I noticed several other houses in the sub-division seemed to have these radon depletion units.  My memory is that I called AirTech after seeing them highly rated on Angie's List + the fact their location is relatively close to where my house.  I asked them about a test & was told there was a several week wait to have it done + there was a fee of, say, $150 (I'm foggy on this detail).  Given that I was going to only be there one week in July to get other work estimates (as well as the cost), I decided to use a do-it-yourself test kit that I got at Lowes.  All I had to do was set it up in the house & let it sit a few days; that seemed easy enough, even for me, then mail it back to the lab in a pre-addressed envelope.
The results came back as a 4.0, which was higher than recommended, so I re-called AirTech & arranged a site inspection on my move-in day.  The technician arrived right at 8:00am & determined that the best installation for my situation would be a shallow hole in the garage floor (the house has no basement), running a pipe up into the attic then out the roof.  This way, the pump is housed inside rather than on the outside of the house, as I see a lot of other such units in my neighborhood.  Since my next-door neighbor has a radon system, I believed the test result & didn't seek a 2nd opinion.  The cost of the radon unit would be $995.  I called the office & set-up an installation date.
At the appointed time, the technician arrived & installed the equipment in under two hours.  He took away any debris created by the drilling in the garage floor & cutting a hole in both the garage ceiling & roof.  He installed a meter on the pipe in the garage & explained what I should look for.  He also installed an ON/OFF switch for the pump motor in the attic & told me never to turn it off, as the switch is either a State or County (I don't quite recall) requirement.  Lastly, he left a testing unit in my house to measure the radon level over the course of a few days.
Once again, he was on-time to collect the sample box & told me that I'd have the results that same afternoon.  And true to his word - I did.  The level is now well down into the acceptable range.  So, one less thing to need to be concerned about.

Airtech was great!  We had to go back and forth between them and the home builder because the builder put the vent in the attic in the wrong place but at first denied it and then didn't want to fix it.  We finally got the builder to fix it and Airtech was finally able to come out and install the fan and never charged us for the other failed install visits.  Super fast job, very friendly and they cleaned up when they were done.  Highly recommend!

I tested my home for radon myself and the readings were around 94 pCi/L.  This company came out and hooked up the fan to the pre-piping that was already in the house, and left tests.  They came back on time to pick up the tests.  The tests displayed that the radon was still high (about 20 pCi/L), and I paid to have another pipe installed using the same fan.  Once I did this, I was told that I was now covered under their warranty and any future work would be free.  They again left radon tests.  The radon was still high, about 17 pCi/L.  They came out and installed another pipe for free.  The left tests again.  This time the radon fell to the high end of the EPA acceptable level of 0.4 pCi/L.  Nonetheless, they provided me with a free long-term radon test to ensure that the radon was properly mitigated.

Long story short: if you want a fantastic radon removal experience and want the confidence that the radon is being removed, hire this company.

    Radon Detection and Control
It was the worst customer service experience I ever had in my life.  A few days after these people installed the radon mitigation system at my house, I discovered that they connected it to a sewer pipe in my attic which was causing sewer gases to be sucked into my house.  So, not only was radon gas not being extracted from my house, sewer gases were being sucked into my house due to their unbelievably negligent actions.  Also, they drilled a hole in a pipe in my basement to hang the radon measuring device, and the pipe they drilled the hole in was the pipe where the water from one of my toilets went down after it was flushed.  So, they also caused water flushed from my toilet to leak into my basement.  Additionally, their actions caused water to be stuck in my pipes which caused a hammering noise, which is what prompted me to call a plumber, not knowing that this noise was due to the radon company putting the radon system on the sewer pipe.  After the plumber told me what the radon company did, I immediately called the radon company.  The owner not only never apologized to me, but he unbelievably told me that this was a "common" mistake.  They did come back to my house and undo everything they did and the owner did refund my money.  However, to make things worse, after they removed the system from my attic, my smoke alarm started beeping and would not go off.  I called the radon company back and discovered that their worker had connected the radon exhaust fan to my smoke alarm in order to use my smoke alarm a source of power, which had never been communicated to me.  Then, the radon company twice sent someone to my house to figure out what they did to my smoke alarm. After not being able to figure out what they did to my smoke alarm, the owner had an electrician come to my house to replace the smoke alarm because not even an electrician could figure out what the radon service guy did to cause my smoke alarm to continue to beep.  In addition to all of the stress this caused me, I had to take off work at least SIX times due to this fiasco.  And after all of this, I still never received an apology.

This went very well.  When I became aware that I would have a 2 story tall white pipe running up the side of my house, Airtech suggested that they not install the pipe until they came back to pick up the test kits, so that I could paint it.  I took them up on that, and now have a stack the same color as my house right beside my downspout, which is also the same color as my house.  The stack is barely noticeable.  That is the extra touch that makes me recommend a service provider to my family, friends and neighbors.

It all went very well.  We started with a high radon reading of 14.2 pCi/L in our unfinished basement; AirTech installed their mitigation equipment, we re-tested, and the levels dropped to 8.8 pCi/L -- lower, but still too high. When I notified Brian and Sandy of this, they made another appointment to come out and install a second pipe into our foundation -- they did this very cleanly and were able to accommodate our future finishing plans (so their second pipe wouldn't be in a bad spot).  After another round of long-term testing, the radon levels in the basement dropped to 2.5 pCi/L.  (For reference, the maximum EPA action level is 4 pCi/L -- if yours are above this, then you need to do something).
We were very happy with how AirTech conducted themselves with regard to our problem:  they always answered our questions very promptly (whether by email or phone), Brian always showed up at the time we agreed upon, and they stuck with their original contract, which stated that they would get our radon readings down to acceptable levels for the same price we were quoted, no matter how many times they needed to come back.
I hope to never have to use them again (!), but I certainly would recommend their services to everyone who needs them.  They're good people, and they do good work.

Don was excellent! Called him he returned my call in a short time. He was booked up until the following week. I explain I needed him before next week due to the home inspection. He fit us in before his first appointment at 8am the next day... Who does that?  He was on time very professional and extremely helpful. When you hear Mold you panic, at least I did.
Well, Don was great! He was extremely knowledgable about what kind of mold it was and made me feel so much better.  With in a couple of days he had the work completed and now we are mold free. The report was very detailed. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
