What if your bathtub could be transformed in one day from embarrassing to your bathroom's sparkling centerpiece?
If you can buy a new bathtub for about the same cost as getting one refinished, why not just buy a new one?
Looking for bathroom ideas that won't break the bank? Try refinishing the bathtub or hiring a pro for a tub liner installation.
OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -
It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.
The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.
The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

He seems to take enough precautions in exhausting the area with his own fan, etc.,
Prior to the job, the communication was very smooth and the process was explained clearly.
It was great working with A1
From the beginning, they were very pushy, trying to persuade me to buy certain products that I clearly told them I did not want. It took some convincing on my part, but we had chosen something that would work for us. I might add that the choices were limited.
.We had no choice regarding where to get the tiles, but I did find something that would be acceptable to us. (the tile vendor made a mistake in the order for the shelves, but I assumed the tiles were correct. I suspect now that the tiles that were installed were wrong too. But since that was the least of our problems, I didn't purse that issue.
They pushed us to start at their convenience in January but never respected the fact that we had major heating problems and need to take care of that first. They kept saying that they didn't mind having the other workers there working on the heating, but it mattered to us to have so many in our house at once and my husband who is in a wheelchair suffering from not only his illness, but the 49 degree temperature in our house.
Everything they suggested in scheduling was for their convenience and never for ours.
They were adamant. We finally gave in to their choice of starting date and the work was to take a week. It did take a week, but they installed the wrong shower base. It was not the one the salesman described. they did not admit fault but said they could put a threshold ramp so the wheelchair could get over the lip into the shower.
They didn't come back until a month later. The worker showed up 2 hours early. We weren't home and came back in time for our appointed time, but the worker had left a message saying that he was there but we weren't home and we would have to call to make another appointment. He made us feel like we were wrong for not being there when he was -even though we didn't miss the appointment time. Again, everything was to make it more convenient for them.
When he did come back he said he couldn't do anything but measure to have the ramp made. Why could they have done that a month previous? its beyond me.
4 MONTHS LATER we got a call to say they had the ramp made and wanted to come and install it. I had called along the way to see what the status was. The office and workers kept telling us that it was a custom job to make the threshold ramp. They must think I am unaware or stupid, but it doesn't take that long.
Once again they were difficult to deal with in arranging the appointment time so I had to bend to their wishes and agree to the time they wanted. The ramp was installed and then came request for the balance due. I disputed it since i waited 5 months to have this work done. The office was cold and unyielding. I feel they should have given a ten percent discount at least off the small balance that was left. It would be good business practice to do so. I assume they want repeat business.
The rudeness and the lack of professionalism and dishonesty is astounding. They never really admitted their mistakes in ordering, etc. Parts that were to be installed with the correct shower base were
This way of doing business disgusts me. There are issues I haven't even mentioned here. Apparently this company doesn't want people to come back as future customers. We have plans for three renovation projects in the future and will not be using this company.
After 2 days the material was dry and we noticed a few bumps on the bottom of the tub. I contacted and she promptly scheduled a follow-up visit. The technician carefully sanded the bumps and now the tub looks so good that we are planning to replace the shower curtain with a glass door.
I was very impressed with both the finished product and the service that
I called BathFitter BFU 176 (Roseville) on 7/20/15 and expressed some of my concerns about the existing condition and desire for a tub to shower only conversion.
BathFitter was scheduled 5-7 weeks out but in the meantime they sent me a helpful list of things to do prior to the shower installation. Removing pictures from the wall, for example, might not have occurred to me. Also, they asked homeowners to clear space in either the garage or basement in case of bad weather. The suggestions assisted the homeowner and installer in making the experience go more smoothly.
As part of the shower installation the bathroom window was replaced by a vendor recommended by BathFitter on 8/11/15 and it went well. On 8/13/15 I called BathFitter to notify them this step was completed and to discuss tentative dates for the shower installation. We discussed some option dates and
Everyone with whom I interacted from BathFitter was professional and proficient. Their communications were appropriate and informative. From the receptionist to installer they seem to know their products and system well. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering a tub or shower remodel.
