"I had this done roughly 18 months ago as I had a heavy shower caddy fall off the shower head and it created three 1/2 inch chips in the paint. I saw this special" and thought great idea. About 6-8 months later a plastic shampoo bottle fell and again opened up a hole in the paint. Since they have year guarentee I called and scheduled a retouch. When the technician got there I was at work but my husband was there to great them. I got a call from the home office informing me that this damage was not technically covered by this year warranty. But they were kind enough to patch it anyway. So that is truly an amazingly nice thing to do. However, to me a refinish bath tub from the 1920's is unique and yes is made of metal. They must have just put a coat of paint of top of it with sanding or smoothing out those initial chips. But then to tell me though they have a year guarantee that this type of service to repaid a chip (it was in the same area as one of the original three) was NOT covered really bothered me. I feel I got an inferior paint job otherwise why would a plastic bottle chip the paint? Be careful if you have an older home as the refinish may only be a of paint when what may be better is a higher quality of repair so this won't occur again. Again the cut me slack, but made sure i was aware they were doing me a favor instead of providing it due to inferior service the first time.

"The provider was prompt, courteous and professional. worked on the tub in the basement and his helper worked on the tub and tile in the" upstairs bath. All went as promised. However, the upstairs bathtub proved to be extra gritty when used after the allotted time for drying. I tried the buffing techniques I was told to use to remove residual dust particles with no results. After several weeks, I called the owner to ask him to come back and try to fix the problem. He told me to email him and he would tell me what to do to fix it. I paid a substantial amount of money to have him do the job and really didn't think it was my responsibility to fix it myself. It has been 3 years, the tub has been cleaned many times and it still feels like you are sitting on sand when you take a bath.

bathtub refinishing

Bathtub Liners and Refinishing

Over time, the bathtub can begin to show signs of wear with stains, scratches, a dull finish or other ugly marks. Bathtub refinishing is an option that can return a bathtub or shower enclosure to like-new appearance.

OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -

It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.

The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.

The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

Bathtub Refinishing reviews in Gap

They did a fabulous job. They came on the day they said they'd come. Our two bathrooms look beautiful. Our house was built in the 60's. We had two pink trimmed bathrooms. I never thought we could ever afford to have them updated. When we heard about reglazing, we decided that was our best choice. The bathrooms look like the old tile ...More was taken off, and new put on.
We are very happy with he results.
- Robyn H.

Had to come back to re-sand some parts of bathtub that were a bit rough. Very responsive. Excellent customer service. Bathtub urned out very nice. I highly recommend.
- Neil T.

and his helper cleaned and sealed the tile floors. The tenants had left the grout quite dirty, especially the kitchen. They were on their hands and knees with a brush, got the grout looking like new. They were at the house for seven hours, working hard the entire time. They did a fantastic job, the floors are beautiful again.
- Margaret D.

The person who came to refinish the tub was on time, courteous, and professional. We had been given instructions about what we needed to prepare the bathroom and adjoining bedroom for the procedure. Because harsh chemicals are used and the spray is toxic, we had to cover all of the furniture in the bedroom. The technician covered the bathroom fixtures, ...More sink, and mirrors. We also put up a plastic on the door leading to the bedroom to keep out the dust and chemicals. Upon completion, which took about 90 minutes, we were again given explicit directions on what to do for the next 48 hours, as well as how to keep the finish looking new. The office staff was also accommodating in answering all of our questions.
- Roberta W.

wJoe was very neat, very thorough, and on time. He and both communicated to me to confirm and keep me informed of the time he would arrive. The details of care, the process, and what NOT to do was carefully explained. He needed to vent out a window to avoid the odor going through the house...which it did beautifully. I was ...More down the hall and smelled NOTHING! He needed to use a ladder to get to the screen outside to release it, but he put everything back in order, before he left.

- Janelle H.

This is an excellent company and we would use them again for any refinishing needs. They were very communicative on all project planning and answering any questions we had, showed up on time and as scheduled, strong attention to detail, and very respectful of our home. We were fortunate to have on our project, who has many ...More years of experience. His attention to detail and precision were much admired. Pricing was as agreed. The job turned out beautifully!
- Kimberly W.

Good experience. Got good quality from a nice young man at a good price.
- Frances V.

These are rental property. Tenants stated water was coming through the ceiling downstairs; while (Ace) was upstairs working on the tub. I had to immediately call a plumber who determined the the leak was from the tub due to water being poured down the drain (which was not connected to the water/sewer lines). ...More (from Ace) stated that he poured buckets down the sink not the tub, until the plumber determined it came from the tub directly. Then it turned from pouring down the sink to I'll run it through my insurance company. I am unable to gain contact with this service provider to gain insurance information.
