    After searching Angie's List for a HVAC contractor that was in my area, I then researched the brands that each carried. I called Kowalski Heating & Cooling who carried Lenox. Jason immediately called me back and we set up an appointment. He made himself available at a time that was convenient to me which was appreciated. When he came out to look at the areas, he explained everything to me in detail and the reason why he picked what he felt I needed, and answered all my questions. We set up the installation for August 15th and his crew (which were the nicest group of guys) arrived on time in the am and had completed the job which included drilling through block and stone to install new pipes, concreting old openings and installing the furnace and air conditioner. Everything was cleaned up and they took all of the old equipment and trash with them. I would definitely highly recommend Kowalski Heating & Cooling and plan on calling them in the future when I need a new water heater.

    My original call to Rick was due to water leaking from inside the furnace from the collector box area.  Rick came out within a couple of hours, identified the problem and replaced the box and seal.  No more leaks.
    Since we were due to a furnace inspection, I also had Rick take care of that as well.  Much to my surprise, he discovered a bird had made its way all the way to the inducer motor area of the furnace from the pipe leading to the outside of the house.  Rick took care of the dead bird problem and had us up and running again.
    Rick arrived when he said he would and clearly explained what was going on and what needed to be taken care of during his visit.

    The service technician, Jay, arrived within a few minutes of the scheduled appointment time and immediately went to work. He completed the 21 point inspection and cleaning in about an hour. He found no issues requiring immediate maintenance or repair, but did identify a printed circuit board that controls gas flow was beginning to act erratically. Instead of steadily opening and closing the gas flow valve when indicated, the valve would open and close rapidly in succession at times, indicating the circuit board was not functioning properly.  Although not a safety issue, continued running of the furnace for extended periods of time without addressing the issue could result in full failure of the furnace to provide heat.  Jay provided a cost estimate to purchase and install a replacement circuit board and suggested we have the work performed soon, which we will do.  He acted in a very professional and courteous manner and provided a written report of his findings.  We were fully satisfied with the work and are likely to use South Hills Electric Heating and Cooling again.

    I was immediately impressed with Jay Thir. He was punctual, professional, and immediately put me at ease about having a stranger come into our house with no one but my mom and I home. He went straight to work, and quickly identified the problem to be within the motor of our somewhat outdated heating/cooling unit. He confidently stated that while parts might not be available for our specific unit, he was certain he could repair the motor itself with perfectly compatible parts, if given the opportunity. He further explained that he could do so for only several hundred dollars - not several thousand. Lastly, Jay Thir assured us that he stands behind his work. As soon as I authorized the expense - Mr. Thir began to make phone calls to his suppliers to order parts. He then left for about an hour to go pick up everything he needed to repair our male-functioning motor. Not much more than an hour after he returned, our unit was fully functioning. At the time, it was needed to cool our home, so Mr. Thir also checked our A/C unit outside. The other HVAC provider insisted that our system would need to be recharged due to a coolant leak. Mr. Thir assured us that there was no leak, nor did our A/C unit require additional coolant. That was over a year ago - and the system is still going strong! We recently called Thir Heating and Cooling to schedule a routine maintenance on our system to ensure we'd be good for another season; we'd call no one else!

    The company canceled the appointment twice - meaning I took 2 days off work to sit at home and wait for them to come within a 4 hour time period, only to have them call well into that 4 hour time period to tell me they couldn't make it.  The technician finally made it on the third scheduled appointment.  The AC needed recharged - which I knew before he arrived.  He did charge it, but it's still not working well.  No other work was done.  No plumbing inspection was performed.  I was charged the full amount for the AC charging - no discount given for the Big Deal I purchased - the Big Deal that wasn't really given to me even though I paid $49.99 for it.  I guess it really is Buyer Beware - no such thing as a real "Big Deal".  The technician was a very nice young man - but this company is not so nice.

    We were struck with a power surge in August.  During a short cold spell we discovered that our furnance wasn't working.  We contacted McKean Plumbing and Heating on Monday, Oct. 3.  They sent a technician on Tuesday, Oct. 4 and the problem was diagnosed quickly and parts were ordered.  On Monday, October 10, the furnace was repaired at the promised time.  The technician was knowledgeable and professional.  We will contact McKean for any future service on our furnace.

    Overall, they did a good job, and my experience with them was fine. They were polite, organized, clean and efficient. They were in and out. The price was good. I had no problems with the work. I actually had a question, so they came out, tightened something and left; it took about 15 minutes. I would rate them highly and would definitely use them again in the future.

    We were smelling fumes from one of our furnaces and called to arrange a home inspection and cleaning of both furnaces. The appointment was scheduled within a week. The technician called first and then arrived promptly. He worked without incident and finished within 2 hours. Everything was handled professionally and we are very satisfied.

    During the blizzard on 2/6/2010, my power went out for 4 days (no electricity or heat). When the power came back on, the furnace did not. I called Ted Thompson and they sent a repairman out. (I believe his name was Jason, who looked very young to me). He checked the furnace, made a phone call and proceeded to tell me I needed a new furnace at a cost of $1,200.00. His bill stated, "roll out switches tripped---heat exchanger is clogged or cracked----furnace needs replaced" He was "VERY" eager to send a representative to put a furnace in "IMMEDIATELY" that day. I had someone else come out and fix it for the cost of a $25 part.
