  • We went to South Hills Honda looking to purchase a new Honda in February 2010. They instead suggested a used Oldmobile van. We test drove the van. It had a new February Pennsylvania State Inspection sticker on it from their in house shop at South Hills Honda. We purchased the van and drove it for less than 30 days when it began to make a noise. We put about 750 miles on the vehicle. We took one trip which was roughly 500 higway miles and the rest was local driving. Since the vehicle was covered under a 90 day full waranty on engine and powertrain so we took the van back to South Hills Honda. The problem was with the rear differential which they said had a slow leak, so they flushed it, replaced the fluid and repaired the leak. The customer representative with the service department then proceeds to tell me the van needed new rear brake pads, the rear rotors had to be serviced because the pads had cut into them and caused damage and it needed four new tires. I was shocked as the vehicle that had just passed a state inspection performed in their service center. This vehicle that I purchased less than 30 days ealier from them assuming that was safe and mechanically sound needed new tires and new brakes in order to be considered safe by Pennsylvania standards? When I brought this up to them they said that the brakes passed but just by a hair, so technically the vechicle was safe when I bought it. So I had to pay South Hills Honda $291.80 for new brake pads and to machine the rear rotors. As for the tires I took the car to NTB where they put new tires on it. The tire technician said that he believed that they rotated the tires so that the worn tread was on the inside. I bought new tires from NTB, which cost me $476.39.  So I had to  dump $768.19 into a vehicle that I had purchased less than 30 days ago from a supposedly reputable dealership in order to make it safe. I complained to the dealership manager and the owner sent me a check for $200.00 to cover my expenses.

I would understand this type of thing happening when you purchase a used vehicle from a random corner lot but not from a respected dealership, especially when we were really interested in purchasing a new vehicle.

One year later I gave them another chance. I took the van back to South Hills Honda for their "free" inspection as all vehicles purchased at South Hills Honda get "free" inspections. Their service representative said the vechicle needed a long list of repairs costing in excess $1,200.00 in order to pass inspection.

I took the vehcile to another independent mechanic. It only needed rear brake pads to pass inspection. I had the mechanic change the oil install new high performance pads and perform the inspection at fraction of what South Hills Honda.

I filed a compalint with Pennsylvania State Inspection Commission. They warranted that based on information provided by me and the other mechanic that an investigation needed to be performed. I was told by a representative from the PA state inspection commision that the Honda Dealership explained to him that they had problems with the particular service representative and that he had been fired so they could not validate exactly what he did or did not try to sell me. FYI South Hills Honda lied to that Pennsyvania State Inspection representave as that same customer service representative was still there 6 months later.

It is now October 2011 - 18 months after we purchased this vehicle. The rear differential is again making a noise and I take it to my a mechanic thinking that perhaps it started leaking again. He told me that it is not leaking and does not need fluid. He says it needs to be taken apart and service or replaced which is something that he doesn't do. The mechanic told me that in his opinion South Hills Honda did not truly honor their warranty on the powertrain, that the rear differential was probably bad to begin with and that they basically put a baindaid over the problem by merely changing the fluid it hoping it would last longer than the warranty instead of fixing the vehicle properly.

My experience with South Hills Honda leads me to conclude that they are managed and run in an extremely dishonest fashion. I would not ever take my car back to them for service nor purchase any vehicle from them.

So now here I am looking for a reputable mechanic on Angies list because thank goodness I purchased an extended service warranty for the van and I was shocked to see that South Hills Honda in McMurray PA is listed as having a favorable rating!

  • They have decent prices and they have a very honest guy working for them. I have been there before when I had jerkiness in my steering. They told me to put some fluid in the power steering and try that before I have them fix it. He put the fluid in it and it completely solved the problem. So, instead of just taking your money, they really do look out for you and seem to provide pretty good service too. They have great service, but sometimes it is a little more difficult to get your vehicle in there especially if you have something and you need your vehicle right away. They are pretty busy so they can't just take you like a dealership can. But if it is something that you know you need fixed, then you can plan ahead for it. It's definitely a better place to go. I think their price is pretty good. I have never had any problems with the quality of work at all. I am not sure punctuality really applies to them.

  • I WILL ALWAYS TAKE MY VEHICLES TO MARSH. THEY ARE VERY FRIENDLY, THE MECHANICS TALK TO YOU. THEY ARE HONEST AND THE PRICES CAN'T BE BEAT ANYWHERE. THE LABOR RATE FALLS FAR BELOW ANYONE ELSE'S. THEY DO A LOT OF THINGS FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE.
    - MAX S.
  • THE LABOR PRICES ARE ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT. VERY, VERY LOW. WHAT I LIKE IS, MY SON WORKED FOR A CAR DEALERSHIP AND GETS PARTS AT A DISCOUNT. MARSH WILL ALLOW YOU TO BRING YOUR OWN PARTS AND THEY WILL INSTALL THEM. ALSO, THE MECHANICS (DUKE) GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO CHECK OVER YOUR VEHICLE FOR SAFETY. I TOOK A TRIP TO FLORIDA MAY 03, I TOOK MY VAN DOWN FOR A TRIP INSPECTION. THEY WOULDN'T CHARGE ME! THEY'VE DONE MANY FREEBIES FOR ME, MY SISTER AND A YOUNG FRIEND. ONLY ONE THING, MAKE SURE YOU CLEARLY TELL THEM TO CALL YOU OR CHECK WITH YOU BEFORE ANY REPAIRS. THERE CAN BE MISCOMMUNICATION. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MARSH'S. I AM A MECHANIC'S DAUGHTER. MARSH'S WILL NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A WOMAN, LIKE MANY OTHER AUTO REPAIR PLACES DO. THEY DON'T TALK DOWN TO YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE A WOMAN.

  • They are always able to fit me in when I need work done. Their prices are very reasonable and they do great work.
    - Kyle F.
  • Several cars and several people go there.  The pricing is usually pretty reasonable.  They take a personal interest in doing a good job.
    - PAUL S.
  • They were great to work with. They got my vehicle in quickly for the service. They got the service done quickly so that I could leave. Everyone in the shop was very polite.
