  • The service is fantastic and it's like they're right there.  They're super friendly.  It's an excellent place.  When I get an appointment they're right there for me and the staffs are excellent.  They develop in what they were doing and they show it when they work too.  It's a lot more, more service to what you're paying.

  • The stylist is devoted to the job that she does, and she is always making sure that the hair cut itself is correct and even, and she must like to be around people, because she is very social, and she is very good. It takes a while to adapt a relationship with someone like that. The women there are very courteous, it is clean, they sweep up the hair on the floor constantly, they have a washer and a dryer that they are always washing towels in, and it is just very nice. I like it there.

  • Sarah was great. I really appreciated the fact that she took time to listen to me. She questioned me in order to make sure I ended up with exactly the look that I wanted. She also gave me options to get the color that I wanted. I am so happy with the color and cut. She did a fantastic job and I will be going back. Thank you Sarah.

  • She was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions, even showed me how to style my hair at home. I'm still getting used to the "Rake and Shake" technique, but overall I am happy. The $75 price tag is a bit steep but I don't think I would need to get this specific haircut every time I needed a trim.

  • My experience has been really good.  He is really nice.  Years ago, he used to work for his dad and ran out of his business, but then Joe came back.  He is great, so that's why I go to him.  I could go and walk in anytime before; but once people got to know that Joe was back in business, I now need to take an appointment.  He is very professional.  He is dressed up all the time.  He doesn't wear jeans or anything like that.  He wears a vest with a shirt and matching pant.

  • I called to make an appointment only to get a very off-putting voicemail message to the effect that we're too busy to take your call, leave a message and we'll get back to you.  The message was not so off-putting as the tone - very abrupt as if they weren't interested in welcoming their clients.  In fact, they never returned my call.  I called again a week later and left another message which was promptly returned.  I tried to make an appointment for a cut and color but the person said they didn't have an opening for a couple weeks.  Her phone manners were dismal as she sounded very disinterested and unenthusiastic.  At that point I decided that this was not a salon I wanted to associate with.  So I cannot rate the quality of the service only the responsiveness and professionalism based on phone calls.  I write this review in the hopes that this business will, at a minimum, consider changing the voicemail greeting on their answering machine.

  • The experience with Sassafras Street Hair Co has been really great. I see the owner, Therese, she has been my stylist for probably 15 years now. I really like her a lot. She has good ideas if I am thinking of a new hairstyle - I will take pictures in and she will make suggestions. I would recommend her to anyone at all. I have lived in Erie for 28 years and she is only the second hairstylist I have seen over that time. She is really nice to talk to - she is a person who treats her clients like people, like friends. She is someone that, if you want to, you can form a relationship with. She makes good recommendations for hair products and styling brushes and things like that. She gives her clients little Christmas gifts every hear - and they are usually really practical things too. I just think that's really nice. I see her pretty regularly for a haircut and for a while she was coloring my hair. I decided when I turned 50 I was old enough to have gray hair! When I did have a color done, she looked at my overall hair and she came up with a very specific combination of colors to get the right color for me.

  • I like them because the girls are all nice and the shop is cleaned. You don't have a long wait period. The girls will tell you if you really need to add color or cut your hair and I really like that they will give you a reminder call about your appointment days prior. I'm very comfortable with her quality of work.

  • I guess it's silly to expect good service from these hair salons now commonly found inside or Walmarts or malls. More fool me I guess.
    I took my son to the Smartstyle hair salon that is located inside the new Walmart on upper Peach St in Erie. He had longer hair but I finally convinced him to get a shorter haircut as it's easier for him to maintain.
    I like to be prepared so I went online and found a couple of pictures of young men's hairstyles I thought he'd like. We agreed on one and I downloaded it to my phone to show the hairdresser when we got there. I'm not sure if this is some crazy faux pas as I showed our wonderful 'stylist' the picture and she just grunted and rolled her eyes. She said it was a simple buzz cut and I said fine.
    My son is 12 years old and very intelligent. The woman told him to sit in the chair and sit up straight. He did. Apparently it was not straight enough as the lady barked at him 'I said sit up straight!'. (for those fans of Seinfeld, I quickly named her the 'haircut Nazi".)
    Beyond her awful attitude and her shoving my son's head backwards and forwards when she had finished the hair was choppy and uneven. I asked her about this and was told 'well that's the best I can do'. Yeah right. She then mumbled something about it looking better after a wash.
    On top of this she charged us $10.95 for a 'kid's shampoo and cut' (no shampoo was offered or suggested) and as we left, I noticed a big red sign in the opposite window saying 'Buzz Cuts only $10!'
    I know it's only $1 but with the level of service we were treated to I've never felt more cheated in my life.
    This is the first time I have NOT tipped a hairdresser. She looked down at my slip for a good 30 seconds before running my card through, apparently trying to process how I could be so cheap as to not give a tip. In the end she handed me my receipt and card and with her customary grunt we were on our way. 
     I can't speak for all the stylists there but from the experiences I have had I would say 80% of them need severe customer service training. I would gladly go to a more expensive place but being a single father with four growing kids...well, we need every penny we can save.
    I can say for sure we will NEVER be returning to THAT particular salon. I'll cut my kids' hair myself before I let that happen. (My daughters would LOVE that! :)

  • They are very nice group of people and they are very focused on friendliness. I've had pedicures and massages there and everything is very professionally done. They are pretty reasonable and their service is really good. I get comments on my hair and nails all the time.
