Fitness Center reviews in Erie

  • It is impeccable. They are always trying to make the place better. I like that they provide the towels, soap and shampoo and everything that you need. The staff is very friendly and professional...everybody from the people that clean to the people who runs it.

  • I love that they have an indoor track to run on especially during the winter months.  The facility isn't the nicest or the newest in town but it is a comfortable place to get a quick workout in, or you can spend time pumping metal with the numerous free weights that they have available.  Its sometimes hard to find the plates you need due to members not putting the equipment back after they have used it. Overall its a decent place to get in shape at.

  • It's a great experience. This place has more of a medical wellness feel to it, not the typical meat market workout joint.
FITNESS ASSESSMENT - They do a free fitness assessment on you if you want, I recommend it. It gives you baseline measurements so that you can track your fitness progress. You are able to schedule these for free every 3 months.
FITNESS PRESCRIPTION - This is a once-every-3-months session with a personal trainer to help develop a workout routine with you. This is the number one reason I chose this place. The trainer will work with you and create a routine to try and meet your goal(s). For me I wanted to do some strength training to help with the weight loss, but I didn't know what to do or where to start. He set me up with 9 different exercises, showed me how to do them, how the machines work, etc.
EXTRAS - They have toms of classes, 3 pools, sauna, hot tub, steam room, etc. The facilities are really nice and high-end.
COST - I believe this is the most expensive health club in the area, but not by much. If you plan on doing more than the occasional cardio session, I think it's worth it.

  • I have had some very good experiences with LECOM. The check-in staff is helpful and friendly. Most of the staff on the fitness floor is easily accessible. I do become annoyed when I see the fitness staff in the machines area walking around the area talking to their friends. The child care staff is top-notch. My son enjoys any time he spends there.
I do have some complaints. The equipment is not cleaned often enough. There are many times when dust and hair has accumulated at around the base of the machines. It is actually quote gross to be on an elliptical machine and look down and see nothing but a mess. It does not appear the machines are on a regular cleaning schedule. The lockers are not swept out enough. They are nice sizes, but there is often hair along the bottom of the larger lockers.

  • I was a member of Best Fitness for 2 years when I decided to cancel my membership because I have a gym at my office that I am allowed to use for free. My husband is still a member and I asked him to cancel my portion of our membership. They told him that he wasn't allowed and that I had to go in myself even though the membership was in both of our names. I found this to be very annoying since I do not have a lot of time and usually have my infant daughter with me. They would not make any exceptions and would not let me do this by mail. I had to go in myself with my daughter and they told me my papers would be ready. When I arrived the gentlemen who said he would have everything ready was not there and my documents were not ready to sign. I had to wait for about 10 minutes until someone else came out to help me. At that point, I had to explain once again why I had to cancel. The gentlemen (who I am sure was just doing his job) was then trying to convince me to stay. I explained once again that I have a full service gym at my work that I am allowed to use for free. He continued to try to convince me all while my daughter was getting very fussy and antsy. I asked him very politely if I could just sign the documents to cancel. After another few minutes of trying to and quot;selland quot; me on staying he finally obliged and had me fill in the necessary documents.

  • LECOM has beautiful facilities and it is very well maintained. It has pretty much everything. They have three pools, a whole fitness floor, top-of-the-line cardio equipment, really nice free weight area, and a lot of classes like yoga, Pilates, and aerobic classes. They even have a golf simulator. I don't use that, but they have it. Their price is a little more expensive, but I guess I get what I pay for. The people there are very nice.

  • YMCA is a very nice facility, and the people there are very nice.  They have a lot to offer in the ways of alternative healing, yoga, and fitness.  Their website is really hard to use; it is blocked.  For some reason, we always get some sort of warning and it is really strange.  I would continue to use their facility again in the future.

  • I like the atmosphere there.  I also like the personnel there.  The equipments are very good and are all in good condition.  There are trainers located in this facility to help us out.  I will continue to use this facility in the future.

  • The Pennbriar Athletic Club has a very nice water aerobics for seniors and my wife and I go for that regularly. They have good access to the pool. You can always get to the pool.  I don’t use much of the weights  but I do spin in Winter and in Summer my wife and I go for the  water aerobic.  It is very conveniently located for us. Weather can be very ugly out here and so the fact that they are just a couple of miles is a big plus for us.  The staff is friendly and pretty competent.  The lady who runs the pool does a good job so does the swimming instructors.  The facility is getting old and there are some maintenance issues though they working on it. Price wise I think they are reasonable but I don’t have anything to compare them to.  Though there are many such facilities here in Erie, for us it is more of convenience than the price. I think they are certainly competitive. However they are affordable for us and they are close.  Quality wise they are pretty good, the staff is good and most of the quality equipments are good.  Last year they have upgraded their stern bikes. But their hot tubs and their steam room need a lot of maintenance. I don’t use them so it does not bother me that much.  All of their staff seem professional.  As for customer service it depends on what you are doing there.

  • I joined 3.5 years ago having been using the YMCA previously. The place was brand new and the monthly membership was cheap $19.99 per month. At first I was fairly happy with the experience. Although the equipment was obviously used and not the state of the art. Most fitness centers have TV built into the tread mills. Not here. A couple of big TVs to service 100 people. It was closer to home, brand new, and about half the price as the Y. After about two years they recruited so many members and students in the summer that I could not get on a piece of equipment at my usual work out time of about 6:30 PM. I had to wait until about 7:30. Still no huge problem. Eventually it got to be ridiculous. I went looking for another center. What I found was better equipment, equipment available for a little more per month. So, I waited until the membership term was up and went to Best Fitness to cancel. I went down 3 times and was always give a lame excuse why they could not cancel it. I finally brought down a copy of the contract and they made a statement and quot; I don't care what that piece of paper says, our policy is you can only cancel between the hours of 9 and 5 Tuesday through Friday.and quot; Well, I couldn't make it during those hours without taking time off from work. I finally gave up and took the time off.

Overall my feeling is it is a mass marketing organization built to maximize income and not so concerned with customer service. There are plenty of smaller Centers that are much better for a little more per month.
