CertaPro Painters of Greater Lehigh Valley
The job went went very well. Lisa was extremely professional. She showed up on time for the estimate, measured everything, priced everything with multiple options so I could make the necessary trade-offs along the way. She was clear and upfront on the cost of repairing damaged walls, removing wallpaper, and in estimating the number of coats it would require to cover old, dark paint. Her crew arrived on time each day and even managed to navigate a series of wintery cold, icy, snowy conditions to get the job done on time. The crew was well managed onsite and Lisa always available for an update or change of plans. When some of the darkest walls did not cover completely with white, Lisa had the crew paint a third coat in some places at no charge just to ensure that the job was done right. She was clear, fair, direct and the work came out beautifully. Highly recommend.

    Crest Custom Painting
Both the exterior and interior projects were complete successes. On the exterior: we requested quotes from Crest Custom Painting and two other companies. Dan Ulicny (of Crest Custom) gave by far the most careful quote, detailing different options and their relative costs. He took plenty of time to explain the key decision points and tradeoffs (e.g., options for filling small holes in the wood, semi-transparent versus solid stain versus paint, number of coats, etc.). He's a very friendly guy, too. His quote came in slightly higher than the others (though not by much), but we went with him based on his overall professionalism and reputation. We were not disappointed!
The crew began the exterior project by powerwashing the exterior with a mild bleach solution to clean and loosen debris. They then applied two coats of semi-solid stain. We were very pleased with the quality of the painting job and the final look. The crew was also very polite and professional. Clean-up was impeccable. The total time to complete was about a week and a half, with 3-4 no-work days due to rain. One other thing: Dan doesn't request any payment until the job is completely finished. That really impressed me.
On a separate interior project, Dan gave a similarly thoughtful quote, and we were entirely pleased with the quality of the job.
The only possible downsides: Dan was way backlogged with work when we called for a quote, so it was several months before he could start the project. We didn't mind, because we weren't in a rush - but this could be an issue for some people. On the plus side, I took it as a positive sign that his business is booming. Also, as I mentioned earlier, his quotes are a little on the high side, though not excessively so, in my opinion. If you are willing to pay a small premium for a high-quality job, Dan is your man. I would definitely use Crest Custom Painting and would recommend them to friends.

    Wentz Hardware Inc
They were awesome. I have them on a regular basis. The people are amazing. I shop there on a regular basis. It is like an old fashioned family owned hardware store, jam-packed with stuff and there is always somebody who say “can I help you in what you need”. We also hired a contractor through them to restain our pretty large deck and they did an amazing job. They even painted underneath. They deck was like 600 square feet it's a pretty large deck and they stained it on the top which is exposed to the element and underneath which isn't exposed to the element.

David Collins remodeling and handyman services
Dave Collins and his workers were very polite and did reasonable work on a tough project. However, they overestimated their ability to strip our deck of old paint and charged us extra for a second coat of stain.
Our house has two decks (one large, one medium) that were last painted around 3 years ago, just before we moved in. The paint was badly peeling on both decks. Unfortunately for us, the paint was a dark brown, which seems to be the color that was used when the deck was first built about 13 years ago. We wanted to strip the old paint off completely and replace with a semi-transparent stain. Another contractor suggested that this would be difficult, but Dave Collins thought he could do it and gave us a quote for the whole job of around $3500. We accepted the quote, and he started work.
Unfortunately, Dave and his team ran into difficulties with the stripping. They used a power washer and several different types of chemical stripper but were only able to get about half the old paint off. Dave admitted that he chewed through a lot of money (and days of work) as he tried different chemicals. In the end, he conceded that he would be unable to get all the old paint off, and he recommended a light sanding followed by a restaining with the original, dark brown color. We reluctantly agreed, but we were disappointed to be left with the brown after all the money and energy invested in stripping.
Dave and his team did a fine job sanding and staining, but they only applied one coat. A little research online suggested that two coats was generally the norm for this kind of project. When we asked about a second coat, Dave said that would cost us another $1000 (approximately). We reluctantly agreed, but I was a little disappointed that he didn't include two coats as standard, or at least give us a discount. I think he was trying to recover costs, in part, for all the extra stripper that he had purchased. Of course, the original quote didn't specify the number of coats. I'll be sure to get that level of detail in writing on future projects.
The good news is that the final deck looks very nice. The staining job is thorough and shows no signs of peeling yet (though it's only been a month). Dave also did a great job replacing some old boards on our deck railing. In hindsight, though, he overestimated his ability to strip our deck, and he didn't include enough detail in the original quote (e.g., number of coats, and what happens if the stripping doesn't work).

    Roche Painting LLC
Everything went well, except that we were painting during the rainiest week which caused some delays, such that the work was finished on July 4 th even though it was a holiday. This is the second time that I have used the services of Roche Painting. The first time was in 2011 when we had just moved into the house and the exterior of the house was looking filthy and the deck looked old. Aaron power washed the house until we could afford to paint it. He also power washed the deck and stained it, that bought us some years before we have to replace it. We have discussed another project, painting the interior as soon as some renovations have been completed.

    Roche Painting LLC
To start, Aaron Roche's quote was considerably less than the other two contractors we contacted for the same job. He was also willing to work us in as weather permitted due to our demanding relocation/moving schedule. That was a huge plus for us. The job took place over a couple of weeks instead of 3-4 days in a row, but that met our needs perfectly. He really seemed to understand what we were trying to accomplish to get our home ready to list for sale. Furthermore, Aaron kept in constant contact via email letting us know when he'd have the crew back out for the next step. This was crucial since it was late November and we'd already winterized our outside spigots and they needed to be turned back on for the painters before we left town for house hunting.

Our porch, trim and soffits were badly needing new paint. There was a lot of missing paint and mildew. Furthermore, the soffits are old, fancy decorative things and the house is very tall. They scraped, scuff sanded, primed and painted with two coats of Sherwin Williams Resilience which is a paint that will cure even in moderately cold temperatures. And these guys were painting on some days that didn't get warmer than 45 degrees. Everything looked great when they were done. Even the clean up was good. My new red door is beautiful, just in time for the holidays and listing the house for sale.

At the final walk-around, we missed a small area they forgot under the front eaves. My husband noticed it a few days later.  I showed it to Aaron when he came out to give us a quote for interior painting. He apologized and said he'd get it fixed for us. The next day he had one of his guys out here to paint the spot they missed. Fantastic service.  Just make sure the guys put your house numbers back up in the right order, especially if you have a furnace maintenance guy sitting outside in his van thinking he's at the wrong address. :-)

As mentioned, I plan to use Roche Painting for interior painting after we move our things out to our new home because the exterior was a quality job, done to specification, in a professional and accommodating manner.

    Roche Painting LLC
We hired Aaron Roche because he had glowing references and impressed us with his attention to detail when he came to our house to provide an estimate.  The painters were true professionals.  They showed up on time every morning and were always cheerful and friendly, especially with our young children.  They were respectful of our home and belongings and did their best to clean everything up at the end of each day.   They were eager to correct any areas we were not 100% happy with.  Aaron is an extremely hard worker and obviously takes great pride in his work.

They were prompt in calling and setting up an appointment for the estimate. Aaron was very responsive and was easy to contact by email. the amount of time to paint was underestimated by a 9hr day.
