General Contracting reviews in Elkins Park

  • Neal and his people were amazing. They were totally professional and worked and cleaned as they went along. I think the pricing was about average to low average and the quality of workmanship was above average. The people who worked were extraordinary and if something was amiss they immediately fixed it without complaint. I am going to save up to have Housing Solutions to do my next job which is either painting the interior or replacing my windows. This is the contractor to use.

  • He completed the project -- amazingly -- within budget and on time with winter coming. Tom takes special care with communications, so he wastes no time or money correcting avoidable errors. I got daily updates and briefings on the next part of the project. His people are trained, competent, reliable, and skilled. No drama, no surprises, except that there are no drama and no surprises. Tom makes good recommendations about colors. Warmly recommend.

And a bonus: Tom and his crew know old houses and EPA requirements regarding safe lead paint removal. (No orbital sanders or power washing!) That's incredibly important if you have kids, a garden, or you just want to keep lead out of the soil and water table and yourself out of court. His carpenter is a perfectionist. My house looks great. He charges the same as the bad actors who cut corners on safety. Go with Heiler. They're the best.

  • We recently had a flat roof replaced (by another company) and in the process a lot of the woodwork and trim needed to be replaced. Some roofers balked at the job being too complex - some general contractors didn't believe it was a big enough job. While it took some time to get into Geno's schedule, we have no complaints about the quality of his work. He gave an honest assessment of what he thought needed to be replaced and picked up all the necessary materials to complete the job (which took the better part of a whole day). He even made a step stool for my toddler ... a nice touch and use of leftover materials.
Overall a very pleasant experience. Working with contractors can be a mixed bag. It was more a carpentry job than a roofing job but if you are looking for an honest and fair assessment - give Geno a try.

  • Service was as prompt as weather would allow. Mr. Spector contacted me quickly and kept me apprised of any delays. The work was completed in one day. The experience was a positive one. I can't comment on cost because I sought no other estimates, but from what I know of carpentry rates it seemed fair enough. In addition Mr. Spector indicated that if upon removing the old damaged doors he found any problem with the wood steps leading down to the cellar he would fix the problem at no additional charge. Fortunately, all was OK.

  • Randy S. the owner provided a very fair estimate and was willing to deal with issues pertaining to sliding doors described above. DeckPro employees Santana and Angelo arrived promptly and completed the tasks in workman like fashion over a two day period. I was pleased with their work and would recommend this contractor to others. The pricing was very competitive.

  • After seeing what a good job they had done on power-washing my back patio and entrance area, and putting gutter guards on my rear house gutters, I hired them to do this front entrance work.  They did a good job, despite the heat and some other things which had caused some problems with the paint application. Dan came out right away when I called about my concerns about the way the paint looked. He told me that he "wanted (me) to be happy" and would see that everything came out fine. And it did! They smoothed out the rough areas and repainted and made sure I was satisfied! I can't say enough good things about my whole experience with Squeeky Clean Services!

  • We called Ryan Painting for an estimate to paint the outside of our house. It was a BIG job! Three stories, shingled house built in 1896. Lots and LOTS of flaking paint everywhere, >30 windows, 6 on 1. Woodwork and brackets.
We went back and forth a couple of times, since the job was so large and we were trying to figure out how to fit it in our budget but still have it done properly. Someone (can?t remember the name) from the company came (right on time) first, but then Brendan came himself to answer more specific questions. We scheduled the job in the winter so that we would be the first to be lined up in the Spring and I have to say that things could not have gone more smoothly. Tito was our foreman: he and the crew worked tirelessly and were extremely clean and careful to not get any chips on our neighbors? yard. Lots of the other (slightly) cheaper companies I called, when asked to describe the actual job, started by mentioning power washing, which in our case would not have worked at all?the neighbors are feet away, the house is tall and power washing would have sent paint chips flying everywhere, especially since there were many layers of old flaking paint. The crew scraped everything by hand, after covering every surface around them (soil and bushes included). At the end of the stripping phase, there was very little of the old paint left, most of the shingles being taken back to bare wood.
Tito is a skilled carpenter and he was able to fix some of the old windows that had come apart with time. Some of the metal roofing details had also deteriorated, as well as some of the downstairs sills, which had started to show some rot. As they were painting, Tito was able to fix details instead of ignoring them and painting over anything, which really makes a difference in terms of how good the job looks.
Tito, and Brendan, are obviously very knowledgeable about colors, so although we had our own color scheme, they helped on some of the details. They found ways to properly highlight the existing features, with their proposals which always were very elegant and tasteful.
At the end of the job, Tito was very much of a stickler, going around and addressing any little detail that might have been out of place. The result is an amazing look, I have been getting many compliments on how good the house looks and how solid the paint seems to be.
Brendan and the crew are a pleasure to work with and really worked with us to make sure things went as smoothly as possible. With little kids in the house, they were extra careful with cleanliness and at the end of the job I trusted them with the keys to our house.  I would hire them again in a heartbeat?actually, I did! Brian is the most polite, pleasant and patient contractor I have ever worked with!!
Finally a comment on cost. Ryan Painting was not the cheapest quote I got, but it was not the highest by a long shot. I think that the end price was more than fair considering the amount of work and how professional everyone was.
  • Wow, what a great experience we have had with Mr. Contractor. After the
big storm we were faced with a 40 foot tree on our roof. We got the tree
down and then had to find someone to fix the roof. I checked Angies
list and found Mr. Contractor. They promptly came out and assessed the
damage and even found a few things the insurance co missed. They did a
great job, came when they said, never took a break until the work was
done and cleaned up. While all this was going on we were having a new
floor put down in our hall and kitchen and were using a Big Box co.
to do the work. We were having trouble with removal and their sub. I
asked Kenny to look at the job and he suggested another flooring that
would stand up much better to the wear and tear of our 4 dogs. Seemed
like a good deal so we let him have the job. Again, the team showed up
and worked great. There were alot of projects that we had been putting
off so I asked Kenny to figure out what was what. We could not be more
pleased with the way our interior turned out. New interior/ exterior
doors. new floors in the bed rooms, new lighting in our expanded
kitchen, new electric box,  new hall closet, new windows, new powder room and to top it
off 2 new fine wood staircases and matching banisters. Wow! Hats off to
all the teams and special thanks to Jimmy and Alan who did the
carpentry. Great wok, Professional, fast and quality. We can recommend
     their work  without question.

  • The service was excellent.  I would recommend him primarily because of his reliability.  He did everything he said he was going to do, and he did it in an appropriate time frame.  His prices are reasonable, and the quality is great.

  • We had a general idea of what we wanted, a mid-century modern kitchen with retro elements such as a chrome banded Formica counter top (diner style) to go with our 1960 ranch home. Jon helped up refine the plan and suggested practical ways to incorporate our ideas of style and color, and design, transforming a cramped kitchen with no counter space into a well-designed, spacious, very functional kitchen. Jon recommended extremely helpful and knowledgeable suppliers of materials, secured preferential pricing for us, and even accompanied us to help design and pick out cabinetry. When he did not know at first where to obtain the diner style counter top, Jon was resourceful and persistent in finding a counter top fabricator who could make just what we wanted. Jon's 3-man crew, Joe and his two sons, Eric and Steve, were skillful, creative, and considerate throughout the three-week period they were working in our house. Joe had an eye for design and detail, consulting with us on aesthetic decisions as he completed the project. They incorporated glazed tiles I had created with the kitchen redo in mind into a subway tile design, following to the letter the schematic my husband and I had drawn up indicating the specific position for each of my tiles in the backsplash. The crew cleaned up after themselves each day, minimizing the disruption and mess that occurs during a large renovation project. After the job came to an end, there were a few remaining items requiring adjustment and correction so Jon scheduled a time for his crew to return and item by item, made sure everything was done as needed.
