  • The appointment was scheduled quickly.  I arrived, and was asked to wait longer than anticipated, without explanation, but if he's giving quality care to others, I'm ok with that. The office was very busy.
I saw his nurses, who did tests, and then finally saw the doctor.  He recommended immediately cataract surgery in both eyes, as expected.  I asked a question about the options that he mentioned, and he told me that the "ladies in the next room" would answer my questions.  I was then sent to another room, where one nurse came in to hand me flyers on cataract surgery.  I asked her the same question and another, and she replied, didn't the doctor talk to you about that?  I was quickly ushered out to the desk, where they scheduled my surgeries.  I asked the receptionist about my questions, and she agreed that everyone had lots of questions.  She asked if I would like a call back, and I said yes.
The whole experience felt like an assembly line process.  I couldn't get answers about the types of cataracts mentioned (I had two types), the types of implant lenses available, potential continued deterioration in acuity after the surgery, future correction (could I wear lenses again?) or anything else.
After a few days of uncomfortable silence, I spoke to my optometrist and he recommended another surgeon. I made a pre-op evaluation appt with this surgeon, who answered my questions and recommended *against* one of the options Dr. Mudgil had mentioned as an option but hadn't answered my questions about the differences.  This surgeon explained exactly why it wasn't a good choice for me, given my script severity and continuing acuity deterioration.
It had now been about 2 weeks, but still no call-back from Dr. Mudgil's office.  I called and cancelled my surgery dates there.  The receptionist was polite.
At about 8:30 pm that night, I received a call from Dr. Mudgil himself.  I was unavailable, but my husband answered the call.  Dr. Mudgil insisted on speaking with me, asking him several times to interrupt me to speak to him.  That was not possible and eventually, Dr. Mudgil hung up.
Several weeks later I received a bill for more than a hundred dollars for my "assembly line" appointment.
