  • Grimes did an excellent job for me.   I had a sofa and chair made in the 1940's that I love.   I bought them 43 years ago at an estate sale.   They are well made and very heavy.

    I knew exactly what I wanted.   Grimes came to my home with fabric samples.   I chose the fabric I wanted and they took the furniture back to their shop the same day.   Delivery was promised two and a half months later and it was delivered as promised.

    The pieces were beautiful!   I was very pleased.

    This is not cheap.   Unless you have expensive furniture it would be cheaper to buy new.   However, if you have good pieces that you love reupholstering is the way to go.   The sofa and chair cost $7,000 and I haven't seen anything in the stores that would be comparable.  I plan on keeping this furniture for the rest of my life. 

    I know that these pieces will look good for a very long time.

  • They sent someone to my house within 2 hours to pick up the chair once I called them.  Their service was fast and the quality was great.  They delivered the chair back to me on the date they estimated and the price was what they quoted.

  • Although the work was good, they were not at all responsive. I constructed new plywood bases for seats for my boat and in May 2013 I brought them to the studio so they could put the foam and covers on. It took them about two weeks to contact me with a price--$1,100 for two seats. Because I had worked with them in the past and felt the work was good I told them to proceed and gave them a 50% deposit despite what seemed to be a high cost for a simple job. (Nearly every boat seat I have seen is foam on plywood with a cover made from marine vinyl. The cover has be sewn, but most installers simply glue the foam on the wood, and staple the cover to the base and use hide-em to cover the staples. That would have been satisfactory.)
    Throughout June and July I called a number of times. The first time, I was told they were working on a big job and had not started my project yet. The next time, I was told both the owner of the shop and the upholsterer were on vacation. I called once or twice a week starting at the beginning of July and was told and quot;the seamstress is working on themand quot; then and quot;the upholsterer has them.and quot; Finally on Thursday of July 18 (about two months after they got the project) I phoned and was later advised that the seats would be ready either late Friday or Saturday July 20 after 10:00 a.m. at the latest. I arrived Saturday at 11:30 and was told the upholsterer left before finishing the seats. The sales people promised to advise the owner of the shop of this situation and based on their reaction I assumed (apparently incorrectly) that some adjustment would be made to try to placate me for this treatment--even simply an offer to deliver the seats would have made me feel better. Finally I got a call on Monday July 22 advising me the seats were finished. I picked them up on Tuesday the 23rd and was disappointed that I did not even get an apology just and quot;oh they were supposed to call you earlier on Saturday and say the seats were not doneand quot;.
    Frankly, I feel as though they did not view me as a big enough customer to be worthy of their time or attention.

  • I inherited some wonderful pieces of furniture from my parents that really needed to be updated. The fabric was ordered through a decorator I used in Florida. After viewing the positive comments from satisfied clients on Angie's List and viewing the photo's on their website, I called and arranged the work to be done by Blawnox. Both Miranda and her husband were wonderful to deal with. On pickup day they were very punctual and took very good care of the items to be reupholstered. About 2 weeks later, much sooner than promised, they delivered the completed pieces. I was speechless! The work they did was exquisite. The two barrel chairs matched perfectly and the piping was very well done. The print on the chaise lounge was also placed perfectly and the piping, again, was perfect. The same for all the dining room chairs and bench. Photo's of some of the work they completed for me are posted on the website. See for yourself. Their work is so well done that giving them just an A doesn't do them justice. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • He was very good. He returned my calls and finished the work within a good time line. He took the chairs with him and brought them back in a week. He brought material samples with him for me to pick and the materials were good. I liked the material though it was not what I wanted. The problem I had was my cat so he replaced the back part with micro fabric which the cat can?t scratch. He left some extra material for me for my future use. I would use him again and ask him to do something different with the material as it is very thin and I want him to use something thick the next time. He was very professional and very efficient. He was able to complete the work within a good time frame. Some other places I called wanted three months to finish the work.

  • PICK-UP AND DELIVERY WAS INCLUDED IN THE COST OF THE JOB. THE PERSON HELPING ME CHOOSE A FABRIC FOR THE CHAIR WAS PRETTY PATIENT. THE JOB WAS VERY WELL DONE AND I WILL USE THEM AGAIN. THEY LET US KNOW OUR JOB WAS DELAYED DUE TO A DEATH IN THE FAMILY.
