AGreat except 5 months later, the exhaust repair showed a small crack and leak during state inspection at another garage. I drove the car back and Midas immediately fixed the problem for no charge and sent me on my way. They were professional all the way.- Alexander G.

DDO NOT USE THIS
SAFELITE LOCATION. I repeat: DO NOT USE THIS SAFELITE LOCATION.
Wife?s rear windshield on her Mini shattered beyond repair.
Called Safelite on Wednesday to have it replaced. Made appointment for
Saturday. Show up Saturday morning, sign the documents.
Upon pre-inspection, the manager and technician determined
that they couldn?t do the repair that day because they didn?t have the
necessary moldings and clips they needed. I asked: ?Why did you schedule an
appointment if you didn?t have the right parts?? No good response. STRIKE ONE. Solution was I would order
the parts from Mini, and they would send a mobile technician to the dealership
to replace the glass, and Mini would supply the moldings and clips. Fine.
Tuesday comes, don?t hear anything about the status of the
replacement. Call the technician, who says he has already left the dealership
but could not replace the windshield. I say: ?Why not?? Because he did not have
the right rear windshield with five electrical leads ? the one he had only has
four. STRIKE TWO. How, after giving
them my VIN, could they show up to a job with the wrong parts on two occasions?
After telling the manager that this was the most unprofessional auto repair
experience I have ever had, we find another auto glass repair service (Patriot
Auto Glass) to fix the rear window.
The Patriot technician came out two days later, and before
he did any work, informed us that the Safelite technician had tried to ?pry?
the rear windshield wiper motor off to install he window, and as a result, the
motor no longer works. STRIKE THREE for
Safelite. Patriot installed the glass, and now there is an extra $300
charge for parts and labor to repair the wiper motor. It remains to be seen
whether Safelite will compensate us for the damages their technician has
caused.
DO NOT USE THIS
SAFELITE LOCATION. I repeat: DO NOT USE THIS SAFELITE LOCATION.

FWent in in Oct 2014 had inspection with NO needed work. Bought a set of tires early, with alignment, balance, even a power steering fluid flush, etc as I really maintain the car. Went back in Oct 2015 for inspection, oil change and they tried to get me to pay over $1200 for suspect repairs to my car to pass inspection. The same car they passed without issue 5,000 miles earlier. The car only has 90,000 miles. For example, on one item they wanted over $180 for a part you can buy at a Toyota dealer for $100 LESS. Then they wanted $128.70 for labor to install the part. I later did it myself in under 10 minutes! I left, took my car to AAA and paid about $50 (fifty) to pass inspection. You do the math, $1200 vs $50 and they don't even give you all the oil! More details with specifics and photos can be seen at http://mrag.jalbum.net/Dogbone/
Tires Etc has three locations. My experience was at the West Chester location. Want more info, check out other reviews on Yelp and Google.
update: 1/06/16. I have heard nothing from Tires Etc on my October review. Perhaps they do not care or do not follow Angie's List. I would think long and hard about ever buying something again from them. To me, from now on I will stick with the 'big boys' like NTB. I paid Tires Etc quite a bit extra for 'lifetime' service on my tires. Do you think I'd ever go back there?- Alexander G. -
DUsing a "discount" coupon, it was a pleasant experience arranging an appointment where I could wait to have my car's annual inspection performed. I am a retired engineer, worked on my own vehicles for 50 years, drive less than 6000 miles a year and have a Toyota Camry with less than 85,000 miles. I know cars. I was literally shocked when given an estimate of more than $750 to pass "inspection" for work including a $140 torque strut (upper engine mount) and $600 for lower control arm assemblies. I was pushed to have the work performed immediately. I declined, left and immediately went to two other independent and authorized state inspection stations. Both questioned the proposed work calling it unnecessary and one essentially deriding the idea for any need for a "replacement" engine mount. I subsequently had the inspection completed for less than $40 (the going rate) and am still driving the car "as is" 5000 miles later without incident.
I spoke with two different people at this repair station before and after and both seemed nice and pleasant. However, I was not prepared to pursue any further discussions at that point. By the nature of Pennsylvania inspection laws, not everything is strictly black or white. I am repeating my experience in late 2014, yours may differ. I am also providing this in the spirit of Angie's List and employing the phrase Caveat Emptor.
Oct 2015 update. I just had my car inspected (elsewhere of course) for next year. In reviewing my experience with J&G for last year, I need to revise some scores and comment on the prices for what they claimed the car needed now seem quite competitive. For example they wanted $110 parts and labor for an upper motor mount.* This year at one place in W Chester I was quoted over $300 (!) while in Downingtown $160 for the same work ($120 part, $40 labor). I eventually bought an after market part locally for $40 and using only a 14mm ratchet spent 10 minutes replacing it myself. J&G said I needed $500 control arm work to pass inspection, this year another place said eventually I will need to replace, but not yet. Who's right?
*reflects a 20% "discount" but I don't know how or when that applies.- Alexander G. -
BYou have to go into this with the right attitude. No, the price quoted was not the final price (it went up $50). No, the pickup date was not the first day promised, or the second day, or even the third, really. It was 2:00 am the morning after midnight the third day. But the driver was nice and the people I worked with on the phone tried their best.
This is like dealing with the airlines. You know not to take the departure or arrival times too seriously. And you accept their "excuses" for why things didn't go quite as planned. But, in the end, you know that you will arrive safely. Its all in the atituude that you bring.
I appreciate this review may not sound hopeful because it says that you should expect delays, colorful excuses and unmet expectations. But these folks are at least as good as any other in the industry, better than most. The people are genuinely nice and the drivers are exerienced and polite. There are a lot of bad companies in the car-shipping industry.
I'd use them again, but would be better prepared for the saga. Good luck!

AUPDATE: 7/3/14 Since the original review, I've been back to AutoBolmar twice with the Passat (once for a repair, and once for maintenance and inspection) and once with my husband's Honda. All three times they have been great to work with!
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
My VW Passat is going on 9 years old now. Because of financial concerns, I want to make it last as long as possible, but taking it to the dealer for routine maintenance was bleeding me dry. They always seemed to find some unrelated part that needed to be fixed, and simple oil changes would turn into major repairs costing several hundred dollars. I never felt confident that all the extra work they were doing was necessary, and, as a woman who doesn't know much about cars, I always worried that they might be taking advantage of my trust.
I started taking my car to a local independent mechanic, and while he performed good service at a reasonable price, I felt like I needed someone who really knew the quirks of my VW to replace to do the major scheduled maintenance. There are a lot of particular issues with this car (oil sludge problems, early failure of timing belts, etc.) which made me feel like using a VW-specific mechanic would be the smart thing to do.
I found AutoBolmar and called to find out the price of replacing the timing belt. I talked with Jim, and he took the time to explain the work that needed to be done and discussed some Passat issues (like the oil sludge) with me. He was helpful without being patronizing, and made me feel like he knew his stuff.
I had the work done, and was very pleased with the experience. He did all the services I requested. He did notice a few additional items that needed to be fixed, and was able to do so without it costing me an arm and a leg (the ending price was almost spot on the estimate he had given me beforehand). He has been certified by VW as a mechanic, and I think his familiarity with the brand helped keep costs down while providing a quality service.
I will definitely be using AutoBolmar from now on for maintenance and repairs on my Passat.

AWeso's staff is honest and works hard to provide quality car care. Recently, we took one of our cars to their shop thinking the problem was one thing when it was really another issue altogether. Dave at Weso's told us they would rather look into the less expensive repair as the first option than charge us for the more expensive one we probaby didn't need. It's easy to stay loyal to a garage that takes such good care of their customers and we'll continue to go there as long as we live in the area.

Mike the technician was great, he transferred everything from old windshield including my EZ Pass and inspection stickersHe also vacuumed out my truckVery pleased with entire experience- Thomas D. -
BThey are very professional. I made an appointment and they did the work reasonable & promptly. Before he committed to doing the work he called me and told me approximately how much it would cost and to get my agreement to go a head and do the work.- Roger A.

AThey are diligent, reasonably priced, and courteous to requests and questions. They have even picked me up and/or dropped me off at home in bad weather or in the event of a pick-up snafu. I recommend them highly.- MICHAEL M.
