    Just Add Paint
Yet another wonderful job by Just Add Paint! This time they did our exterior doors and trim. Curtis and Gareth went above and beyond in diagnosing and solving our ongoing problem with poor quality previous paint. They are very skilled, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and tidy, and generally great folks to be around. More like having friends come visit than having workers come work. They'll be back later this year to do more work for us. I'm very detail-oriented, especially with painting, and they live up to my standards. Thanks again, guys, Great job.

    THE CARPENTER'S SONS
I called the guy, gave my info and addy, he said he would be here in a day or so to evaluate the job and give price, well, he must be so busy he never made it AND never called back with an update. Would I hire again, that would be a big NO and I would NOT recommend to others. I like reliability...................

    Stewart Home Improvement
Purchased an offer in August for discount price, Stewart arrived several weeks later to give estimate for all requested repairs. Total estimate for the job cost $550. Job was to be completed before October, did not hear from Stewart, called and canceled. Hired another to complete the job. I under stand that we can get busy however a simple phone call would have gone a long way. Offer was refunded by Angies List

They weren’t too good. I had siding in the porch. They packed up all their stuff and I had to run out after them to ask them to come in and finished the job and they were very annoyed. They next problem is I didn’t tell them not to clean my front door which is a very expensive front door and there are steaks on it now. I was not thrilled with them and I would not use them again. They should have talked to me before they started the job and we could have made sure they did everything. if I hired them I expect them to clean all my siding.  They were very rude when I asked them to finish the job.

    Haarer Painting
Ken and his assistant Logan were quick, talented and professional.  Ken advertises that Haarer Painting takes pride in proper preparation resulting in a great job and he was right!  Prepping surfaces, cutting in edges, repairing seams, and protecting furniture/flooring may have taken a little more time but the results were worth the effort.  Ken and Logan arrived on time and they both worked the full day on Wednesday.  Logan returned and finished up on Thursday leaving me with a clean, painted room and no mess to clean up!  In addition, both Ken and Logan were friendly, personable and a pleasure to be around all day... Logan was example of what a well-mannered young man should be... and these days, well-mannered young men are sometimes hard to come by!  But given the example that Ken obviously provides, that did not surprise me... Kudos Haarer Painting!

    Stewart Home Improvement
If you use Stewart Home Improvement, you will get a job well done at a great value. This is a family owned and operated business. The owner, Jim, and his son did a great job and were very accommodating about scheduling and taking care of all the details that were important to us. He was always on time and was truthful and fair about what would be done and what it would cost. He really cared that we made the right choice of paint colors and that we were happy with the results. His suggestions and input were very helpful. They took extra care to not harm the plantings around the house and to let us know if there were any concerns that needed to be addressed before they moved on to the next step.

    Smith Exteriors
The work that was performed was acceptable to good. I would have prefered a more professional outfit with improved communication. Never received a final invoice for the work done and was told they would stop back in a few weeks to inspect the job. Never heard from them since. I work with a number of commercial contractors and as for as Smiths - The masonry skills were there just not the business skills.

    CURB APPEAL
Working with Craig was professional and straightforward. He met with us twice and was actually to the house 3 times before we started the project. One for measurements, one to review the estimate and one to finalize colors and contract. There was good communication during the project and only 1 day did the workers not show up (and no notice was provided). The crew were polite and friendly. However, after some weeks have passed, it appears that Craig's mentality and work ethic didn't translate to the job site.
When the job was completed, Curb Appeal had As across the board from me. There were just minor things and I filled out his survey as satisfied with positive comments. As time has past and the excitement of having a house that looks nice has stopped covering for some problems, so my grades have gone down significantly.
It starts with fit and finish. Some mitered corners don't line up. Some trim pieces that should be flush are overlapping or in other cases gaped (not a professional here, but I think gaps are bad). Some areas that needed sealing or caulk didn't get them and others areas the caulk is obviously dirty. I know the trick of smoothing caulk with your finger, but your finger or glove shouldn't turn the caulk dirty?
Next, the work truck leaked something in the driveway that is either trans oil or engine oil because it won't come off. My driveway is already stained and needs attention from another spill, but that isn't an excuse. After a week of parking, it's a significant stain. I wouldn't visit a sick friend and then punch him in the stomach, so adding stains is just not professional.
During the estimate and contract sessions Craig mentioned using a lift system that attaches to the roof. I had serious concerns about this, but he stated several times that the lift attaches under a shingle row. After getting on the roof, my concerns were justified. They nailed through all layers of the roof and then filled the holes with caulk....seriously? That is not a roof repair and is not what I was told. I don't care if this system has been in use for 20 years, tell the truth about how the crew will mount the lift and then repair it with proper LIFETIME roofing products, not 3-7 year silicon caulk globbed in the holes.
I'm not sure if it was the siding workers or the gutter workers, but I found  broken singles on the roof as well. In almost 10 years I've never pulled or found a piece of shingle. This wasn't mother nature. The location and type of break indicates to me it was [accidentally] kicked and broke off. Other contractors that have damaged items during their project repaired or replaced them.
The gutters were sub-contracted to "The Gutter Guys" and I'm tempted to leave another review for them. Do not use them. The gutters are holding water (about 1/4 - 1/2") and at EVERY SINGLE  bracket the gutters are scratched! Double negative.  This is lazy and sloppy. It's going to impact the life of the coating because someone jammed the drill in the gutter when attaching the brackets and  oh, gutters should drain! It's not obvious from the ground, so it was missed until I could get on a ladder.
Lastly, there was job site cleanup. This consisted mostly of picking up loose scrapes of product or tape from the yard. I don't believe anyone actually walked around and cleaned anything up. I've picked up countless nails and I know I'm not done.... the nails for the lift system were just tossed on the roof!! My dog has had multiple pieces of aluminum and vinyl taken from her in the yard and I removed more scraps from the roof that were just tossed aside. The roof and around the foundation is littered in white debris (the old siding and probably any paint underneath were white). On the last day I told Craig that I would handle cleaning up any mess in the driveway since it had been raining and would be stuck in the asphalt pores. Once it dried I would vacuum it,  I guess somehow that translates to not cleaning up anything.
We bought an older house and knew there would be expensive projects. Fireplace insert with chimney lining, driveway paving, Central A\C retro fit, Well pump, tank & filtration and after ~10years of work have never left a negative review. Projects aren't perfect and old houses can be challenging, so if there was just one thing or two things, this is an A+ job, but when I add all of the items up, I can't get past the problems with this kind of investment and outcome.

Everything went very well from start to finish.  The gentleman who came to provide the estimate was very knowledgeable and really steered me in the right direction.  Furthermore, they did an excellent job and stayed within my budget which I appreciated.
