  • I felt hurried during the appointments. The shot relieved pain only temporarily. The first contraption he sold me was like a sturdy slip on ace bandage with an inflatable balloon under my arch that was supposed to massage with every step. I think my arch is too high to feel much of that massage. Subsequently, I learned that the quality of the xray was lacking. It looked more like a shadow outline of my entire foot instead of revealing any bones.
The inserts he sold me on the second visit and my feet only fit in my tennis shoes. Take a comfy pair of shoes and try to put a heel to toe Dr Scholls insert in and still have comfortable shoes.  You get the idea. I wore those most of the summer even though the arches in the inserts felt as though they began on the edge of my inner heel, not my arch.
It was difficult getting the approval for the MRI. Between the limited office hours, me not getting messages until after their hours, having to leave messages and wait for call-backs. Phone tag for a week+ as I recall.
He may be a great doctor for you, but not for me.

  • They are very excellent. The office staff is the most courteous group of people and they're very professional. I just can't go to anyone else in terms of foot treatment, I think they're the best. When my mom started having difficulty, I also brought her there. The service is excellent and she loves going there. The doctor is very patient in educating me and in explaining things. He has a very pleasant disposition and he gives me confidence with the skills that he has.

  • It took three days to get an appointment.

This is an office of The Orthopedic Group, which has several in the greater Pittsburgh region. The Canonsburg office only does podiatry.

They're located at the intersection of Demar Blvd. and Route 19. If you're comimg from the South on 19 you will reach the parking lot before you reach the building.  They had had me fill out their registration forms online, so check-in was quick and easy. There was very little wait.

I saw Dr. DeCarbo, who is Dr. Hofbrauer's partner. He went over the options I had for dealing with my toe (medication only, versus remove the toenail and medication) and helped me make a decision. I liked him a lot and would have given the whole visit an A rating except for one thing that went wrong. When they initially numbed my toe, it didn't entirely take. I told him I was still feeling some pain (not just pressure) but he went ahead and started. He stopped when it went from minor pain to major pain, and gave me some more injections. After that, it was fine. He didn't mean to hurt me and I should have been more forceful initially about saying that my toe wasn't ready for surgery.

Although he very quickly went over post-operative care with me, it would have been helpful if they had given me written instructions. I had to call back the next day with a question about changing the bandage, which they were very prompt to answer. I won't know for several months how well this worked to solve the problem.

  • He's very helpful. He is very skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to his profession. His staff is quite friendly. He's available when I need him and I don't have to wait long for my appointments.

  • Dr. Gallagher removed a dime-sized piece of flesh from the bottom of my foot. It took a month to heal and now I have more pain than before. When I went in to complain about the result, he gave me formaldehyde to treat it with (even though he knew I was pregnant). I would never return for fear it can get even worse!
