    Insulwise Energy & Comfort Solutions
We called for a free energy audit. Xavier came out and looked around the house. and gave us suggestions. He said we did not need the blower door test and that it was too warm (50 degrees) to use the infrared scan. He recommended to add blown cellulose into attic, seal the joint where the cinder block meets wood frame in basement, blow insulation into walls, and clean and seal air ducts. We had a bathroom vent that was venting into attic. He said his guys could put the vent though the roof before they blew the insulation. He also warned us that if we waited too long, that it may be too cold to remove the siding to blow insulation into walls. He suggested waiting no longer then Dec 8 to get work done. He was very professional and explained everything in an easy to understand way. We called a week later to schedule an appointment. We couldn't get work done till Dec 20. We decided to get everything done except sealing the air ducts. I had to work the day that work was scheduled, but husband was able to be at home. He said the crew was fantastic. Unfortunately, it was too cold to remove siding without possibly cracking it. Bob, the crew chief, said he didn't want to chance it. There is one thing I thing that could be worked on. We had to explain three times what we wanted to have done. Once to Xavier during audit, once to Andy the day before work, (that was more for specifics, like if there was a "knee high wall" in bedroom) and once to Bob, the day of work ( he did have a work order, but it wasn't very specific.) I would suggest taking pictures of the rooms/areas that will be worked on, esp if they have a lot of houses to work on. Other than that, Insulwise was fantastic and when the weather warms back up, if the attic insulation was not enough for us, we will be calling back to do the wall insulation.

    Handyman Matters South Pittsburgh
Handyman Matters did an amazing job. They were polite. They explained everything they were going to do. They told you when they were going to show up in the morning and actually worked an 8 hour day. And the finished work was high quality. I don't have one complaint. If only all my contracting experiences could be this good!!

    USA Insulation of Pittsburgh
Purchase a groupon for home inspection. Kevin was the inspector that came out and what very punctual. The inspection was very informative. I already knew I wanted to address the attic area. Our home is about 35 years old and I wanted to get our home up to recommended code concerning the insulation. I scheduled a date for service during our consultation. Two men arrived on time the day of service. It took about three and a half hours to complete. They were very polite, professional and took extra caution when having to walk through my home. They cleaned up completely and had me look over the work done to see if I had any questions. It was one of the easiest service transactions I have completed on my home. I would highly recommend them. Great job!

    USA Insulation of Pittsburgh
They were willing to negotiate the price to a manageable number. They showed up on time and were very polite as they completed the installation. We haven't had the opportunity to track our bills yet but definitely noticed much more even temperatures through our house.

    J.P. May Construction and Remodeling
I bought an Angie's List "deal" from this contractor, spoke with him 3x over the course of 4 months trying to get him to live up to his end of the agreement. He never showed up. I am in the process of trying to get my money back from Angie's List now.

    Arrow Roofing & Siding
I contacted Arrow Roofing and Siding to replace the entire roof and roof truss system of a rental home that was damaged by fire. The home was located 50 miles from Columbus in Zanesville, Ohio, and they arrived promptly the next day and met with everyone, including the tenants, the cleaning and restoration company and our insurance adjustor to prepare all of the necessary estimates and reports.
There was also interior damage to the bathroom, wiring and kitchen areas and they were able to repair and restore those areas as well. I was so relieved that one company could take care of what we thought might turn out to be a long and drawn out experience. The renters of the home had to be relocated during the repair period and we were very concerned about the time they would be away from their home. We thought this was going to be a very stressful time for all persons involved. Fortunately, Arrow Roofing and Siding made the project very simple and stress free for everyone. After we approved the estimate they went to work immediately. All decisions were made up front regarding materials and who would perform certain tasks in the process.
The roof was completed in a few days and the interior work was completed shortly afterwards in just a few days. The workmanship was incredible, the project manager, Josh, was amazing. Josh kept me up to date with texts and phone calls and they met each deadline they promised well in advance. We also worked with Dave, who was equally as efficient and professional. All of the
appropriate paperwork was professionally prepared by a computerized estimating program that corresponded with what the insurance companies expectations and the format was typed and very user friendly for us to understand. This is the second time we have used Arrow Roofing and Siding and will always call them first for large and small jobs. Our first experience with the company was in the fall of 2011 and they performed a roof replacement on our home in 24 hours with a crew of approximately 30 persons. All the other companies we talked to estimated one-four weeks to complete.
They are prompt, professional, accurate and always exceed our expectations. We also received a 20 year warranty which no other company had ever offered us at no additional charge.
Please do not hesitate to call me if you need any additional information on this company because I have worked with so
many contractors that were just a nightmare to deal with and often left us with a bigger mess than what we started with. You will not be disappointed with Arrow Roofing and Siding and you will be amazed how effortless they make the process for the homeowner.

Good job from start to finish. Bob was great to talk and work with. The crew arrived on time, did the job and left with little to no mess. Everything seems great so long as we stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. That should be the case.

    Pittsburgh Foam Insulation
I had stripped off all the old siding and sheathing and old insulation and after putting on new osb sheathing I had Pittsburgh foam insulation come in and foam all the walls. The owner performed the work and  he was fast, efficeint, and friendly.  Work was completed in 5 hours and the results are just amazing.  AC went from running all day on a hot day to running ro 10 minutes then shutting down for an hour and outside road noise has been drastically reduced.  Cost equates to about $3 per square foot of wall.....

    USA Insulation of Pittsburgh
We had USA insulation come out primarily for our bedrooms above the garage - they were 8+ degrees colder than the rest of the first floor and practically unusable.

Adam came out and explained the product, the process, and answered the questions we had. We explained the concerns with the bedrooms and he was confident there would be a noticeable temperature improvement in those rooms. Any other improvement on the first floor would be a bonus for us.  Had the salesman used terms such as "maybe", "probably",  "possibly", or had he been noncommittal  when describing potential temp improvements, we would have passed, as this is a sizable investment for something that " might" help.  Instead, his reassurance on warmer rooms sold us, so we scheduled the foaming. (After looking at some of the other reviews, I must note there were no semantic games being played. Our conversation was specifically about "room" temperature that you feel when standing in the middle of room --  not inner-wall temperature, outer-wall temperature, plaster temperature, drywall temperature, etc. I even have a diagram that Adam drew distinguishing room temp vs wall temp.)

It only took about a week for them to get us on the schedule, which was extremely fast turnaround. We were very excited!  Then after the insulation work was completed which took about 4 hours, we waited for the first frigid night. Much to our dismay, a digital thermometer in one of those bedrooms still read an 8 degree difference from the thermostat. Our hearts sunk.

We immediately contacted USA to let them know the results and they were shocked and told us this hardly ever happened. They said they would  do whatever they could to assist us further. This made us feel much better. But after a few conversations it was clear there was little more they could do. Their proposed option was for us to invest more money into additional insulation in the garage ceiling. They did offer us a discounted rate on this insulation. However, even with this discount, it would have more than doubled our initial investment - and they would not guarantee improved results. Rather than throw good money after bad, we opted not to take USA's offer.

So, after having several general contractors and hvac contractors to the house to assess the structural and mechanical situation (the furnace is only 2 years old), we finally have an idea of what needs to be done to keep our rooms warm and we are moving forward.

The lessons learned are as follows: 1. There is no silver bullet when it comes to this. 2. Even though contacting, coordinating with, and discussing options with numerous contractors is time consuming... it is FREE. It's cheaper to to do a lot of research up front, than after you have already invested money into something that did not work for your situation.

We had contacted USA for a service call some time after the installation for a light switch that got overtaken by foam and some missed drill holes that needed to be mortared. Their tech was extremely nice and fixed our switch quickly and their cement guys even patched up a few holes that they didn't make. We really appreciated that. It would have been the perfect ending had the foam worked for our house.

Andy was a true pro, from the initial estimate to the final cleanup. He knows detailed information about the insulation trade, and provided me with numerous examples of how he could help seal up the attic space and better insulate the area. When it was discovered that the bathroom exhaust vent was in terrible shape (and was installed incorrectly, as well), Andy recommended a fix and said it would due no problem for his crew. The results were immediately noticeable - the house is a more consistent temperature, and our utility bills are lower. It appears as though the furnace doesn't need to turn on as often, saving us money! We had another contractor come with an estimate for blown-in fiberglass, and the price was much higher.

If you are considering attic insulation, Andy is the guy to call - no question.
