Chimney Repair reviews in West Linn

    Bridgetown Chimney and Masonry LLC
It went fine. The chimney had become encrusted with moss and there were cracks in the cement on the crown. Also the flashing was rusting. Ryan ground off the old crown cement, applied new cement, pressure washed the chimney, installed new counter flashing and water seal. Now the chimney looks like new.

Easy! Jozo came to do an estimate, and unlike others I contacted, he went up to the roof to look at the job up close. He originally thought he would have to schedule my job out several weeks, but space in his calendar opened up and he completed the job much sooner than expected. His price beat others by several hundred dollars. His estimate included best case and worst case options so I was pleased he concluded the job fell into the best case scenario. The results look great and everything was left neat and clean. Now we just need some fireplace weather to test it all out.

    Chimcare
We had Chimcare out 3 years ago to inspect and repair an aging large brick chimney on a house we had just purchased. Over $2,000 worth of repairs were completed. Fast forward to last winter and the chimney leaked extensively on our newly remodeled home.... ruining insulation, drywall, and even leaking within the fireplace. It took months to get them back out to repair their chimney work . A stainless steel cap was recommended. We sent pictures, and spoke with their technician about the style of the new cap. Calls, and emails were not returned about the cap design. So the day the mason arrived he had a cap nothing like the one we had requested. To add insult to injury, the mason spilled gasoline all over our front lawn from the power wash machine. There are dead spots, and a straight line of dead grass where the hose must have dripped gasoline.

    Murphy's Fireplace & Stoves Inc
After a thorough examination of the Fireplace, I was told that the smoke could not rise up the chimney properly due the fact that one of two dampers was sealed shut! I was flabbergasted. Why hadn't this been revealed before by the other Angie's List recommended "professionals?" The representative from Murphys Fireplace and stove explained that I had two options for remedying the situation: unseal the closed damper at a cost of $1,200 (!) or install a 2-3 inch barrier at the top of the fireplace opening to try and catch some of the smoke roiling out. I can't remember the price of this but it was in the $150-250 range. I was very grateful for the thorough examination revealing what the problem truly was... these guys know their stuff and explain it in easy to understand terms. I have not yet acted on either of the suggestions because it seems like the partial barrier option (while more affordable) wasn't going to be very effective, knowing how much the fireplace smoked. And the second option, while clearly getting to the root of the problem, was way out of my price range. Frankly, I don't understand why this particular job had such an astronomical price tag. Regardless, as I mentioned, I'm thankful for their careful diagnosis of the problem and dearly wish I would have hired them first at the first sign of the problem years ago. Heck, I would have been able to pay over twice the high price quoted for the remedy had I not spent it all on previous fireplace/chimney contractors! Save money, inconvenience and frustration by starting with Murphy's Fireplace and Stove to diagnose any fireplace issues you may be having.

    Chimcare
It was excellent. They charged an additional 50 dollars for an additional work to be done. They had the willingness to work with me. They got the repair done. They did what needed to be done. They were A's all the way down.

Jozo was very nice to work with  and has a real eye for doing it well.  He was willing to do something a little out-of-the-ordinary and use real stone for the shoulders, and was very helpful suggesting grout colors.  They communicated well about their schedule and cleaned up thoroughly when they were done.  And his price was about half what another contractor had bid.

    Master Sweep
We have chimney swifts all summer and fall in one of our 2 flues, which is fine with us, we don't use that fireplace and it is fun to hear them come and go. Drives our cat nuts! But we figured that it probably needed cleaning from all the nests etc, so we called Master Sweep. They inspected and found NO NESTS! and no guano either. I love these birds! Apparently they simply roost in there every night, and never poop in there, and nest somewhere else. Who knew! So we asked the sweep to leave it open for them but to cap the other side so we can use our wood stove without worrying about baking any birds. Nice people to work with!

the cleaning went great except he was supposed to show up first thing in AM, showed up around 12 instead
so I had to reschedule which took multiple phone calls to do
the office is horrible at returning phone calls and again  took multiple calls to schedule the recommended repairs
Repair basically looks  like he basically threw some grout on back of fireplace where it was missing, not very neatly done
We had him repair a broken tile on hearth.  When he was done, the broken piece was sitting up a good bit from the rest of the hearth.  We had him undo his work and leave the broken tile as it was previously. Can't believe he thought it was a good way to leave it!
Would not use again for any repairs

In a word, EXCELLENT. I would recommend Dutch Masonry to my mother. Mark is highly skilled and takes obvious pride in the quality of this work, with beautiful results. Both Mark and his assitant Brandon worked hard and were very professional in their demeanor and workmanship. Mark was accommodating on the schedule, for I wanted the work done under ideal weather conditions (no rain, or even rain threatening). Our home has a cedar shake roof with heavy shakes and vaulted ceiling under all areas under the 3 chimneys being done, so I wanted zero roof leaks caused by work on the chimneys. Most other bidders wanted to just work off ladders, assuring me scaffolding would not be necessary. I wanted the work area scaffolded to protect the roof from split shakes and roof leaks from workman walking on the shakes, standing on roof mounted ladders, etc. Mark and Brandon did a supurb job in setting scaffolding such that the roof was protected. I would use them again for any masonry job, and my advice to anyone reading this review is to call Dutch Masonry first. Mark's price was not the cheapest, nor was it the highest of the 7 bids I got. For what Mark and Brandon did, it was an excellent value for the money. There are times when "free is not cheap enough", so if you're looking for a quality job for a fair price, call Mark
