Fine until the front deck had a problem. Six of the pickets are now damaged. Guy Anderson promised in early May to send a worker over to make the "easy" repair. We have seen no repair person. Anderson is not returning phone calls or text messages. There have been a minimum of five attempts by my husband and me.

    SFW Construction LLC
I will say that the workmanship was generally high, the carpenters & painters very professional, and the results good. The team-members reported on any incidental issues to discus before proceeding - which I appreciated. But the project proved frustratingly complicated. Would I use SFW again? Perhaps. I think the folks who do the work are very good, and take the extra steps (like painting every surface of what goes into stair railings, and carefully caulking everywhere) to do a lasting job - though I do have some criticisms. But the management & administrative processes need serious attention. This was a small job, straightforward and completely visible as to what had to be done - replacing & painting 3 exterior porch/deck stair railings along with a damaged exterior door fascia and a mailbox support - with cedar. We have a 1930s cottage with some nice woodwork touches (which weren't rot-resistant) supported on visible pressure-treated structures. I bought a half-price Angie's Coupon - and called in for an estimate, since I could vary the scope depending on what the estimate was. I was told that estimates were not done - since the extent of wood-rot often isn't evident. True, but I've dealt with enough such considerably more complicated over decades - so I persisted. Estimates provided, the scope was settled and the work was done in two phases - carpentry, then painting a couple weeks later (to accommodate our travel). SFW works on a Time & Material basis and that is what the client's bill is based on - but the daily T&M summaries provided were very inaccurate. I don't know whether this was due to mis-reporting, mis-communicating, assumptions, inaccurate data entry, or software issues. Fortunately I'm retired and was at home full-time - so I went through the exercises to get these figures corrected. I will stress - Accurate Timekeeping is Mandatory! There is a Punchlist (I have to sign off that I'm satisfied at each step) but minor items can be handed off from Carpentry to Painting. I did notice excess in caulking nail/screw holes and was told this would be dealt with by Painting - OK. I did not notice some very burred areas on some of the bannisters (even more noticeable after painting) - and apparently the carpenters and painters did not either. There was no final job punchlist - so at some point I'll sand these and re-paint. There is also a difference between hourly rates charged for carpentry and painting work. Fortunately I had gone through the exercise to get these rates - the initial charge was going to be all at the higher of the two rates. After that was settled, the Angie's coupon was going to be applied at the lower of the rates - but that was corrected on re-reading the terms.

really smooth. The guys made a special effort not to destroy the plants up against the house. They did really well and were very patient with my questions. The also removed 2 windows and found the source of 2 water leaks and flashed the windows so it won't cause further problems.

    Lex Construction
Michael and partner Chris have worked many years together. Their teamwork produced speed and craftsmanship in all construction and roofing stages of job. With little formal specifications given, they executed my evolving plan and with good humor.

    Paul Cottle Construction LLC
They were punctual, tidy, and easy to work with during the three day project. The workmanship was solid and the price was fair. They did everything as agreed upon. I would definitely use Paul Cottle Construction again in the future.

    Exterior Motives Design and Construction

The job went very well, as I advised the contractor before he showed up what exactly needed to be done.  I asked if he could use screws rather than nails to do the repair, and he did.  I further asked him if he would give me a quote on replacing the soffit with wood planking and removing the current plywood soffit.  He said he would get back to me in one week, and that was three weeks ago.  I therefore rated the "job" a B on Professionalism.

    Nail It Roofing & Construction
Wonderfully.  We had originally searched on Angies List for roofers, but then my sister in Bellevue, WA led us to Nail It ! due to a referral from her very good friend in Bellevue.  The friend's mother here in Portland used them upon referral from her friends and had an excellent experience with them.  So good, in fact, that several of her neighbors also used Nail It ! for replacing/repairing their roofs after watching the crew at work.
Pedro and Rodrigo, owners of Roof It! are very prompt at responding to all phone calls with quick, accurate answers, prompt at dates, and very timely on the job.  The estimate for our replacement was spot on as was the time needed for the job from start to completion.  The crew worked very smoothly together and efficiently with lots of laughing heard, always a good sign.  It made me smile to see Pedro working side by side up on the roof with his guys and impressed my husband.
We can not say enough good things about them and would definitely recommend them to anyone.  A VERY fair price for all the detail they put into the job!!!!!!  God forbid, should we ever need anything further needed done to our roof, they are certainly our go to guys!

Saw a coupon on Angie's List for roof replacement for $4995.  Made an appointment with a dispatcher for somebody to come out and give me an estimate prior to purchasing the coupon.  The appointment was made for 5pm.
At about 2pm, Craig called me and said that he will be at my home in 30- 40 minutes.  I waited for Craig but at about 3.30pm (an hour and a half later) I finally called Craig to see if he was still coming over.  Craig indicated that he was close by but delayed in traffic.  A phone call would have been nice.  Finally, at 4:30 Craig showed up.  He spent about 10 minutes measuring and calculating.   He gave me an estimate of $13k for 3300 squares of roofing by his calculations+ old shakes tear off and applying new plywood.  What happened to the 50% off? I informed Craig that his was the highest estimate out of all estimates received without "discounts."  He replied "thanks for wasting my time"  What!!??  This guy is rude and unprofessional.  Stay away from this company and hopefully they will go out of business soon.

Above All Fences Decks & Construction LLC
Above All Fences gave me a competitive bid for the project a year ago, but I had decided to postpone the project until I was ready to sell my house.  I contacted Andrew at Above All Fences in early May and asked him to update the bid, and found that the price of labor and materials had risen slightly.  He was able to squeeze me into his schedule when another job was postponed, which enabled me to get the work done more quickly.  It took about 3 days to complete the construction, and the staining was done a week or two later when the weather was clear.  I've received compliments from everyone--my real estate agent, property manager, and even other contractors working on my house--about how nice the front steps look now.  I'm very happy with the results, and would definitely hire Above All Fences again if I had the opportunity.

We really enjoyed dealing with Ted, who stayed in good communication with appointments, and did the work. He was always prompt and helpful and a good communicator. When the job became a little more complicated than expected, he did an excellent job of following through. We will definitely be using this company's services again.
