Land Surveying reviews in Hillsboro

    Township Surveys LLC
Overall it went ok, and I got what I needed, but I was disappointed with some aspects of the experience I'll note below.  (This is the only time I've worked with a surveying company, so perhaps my expectations are not inline with normal interactions).
-Lee gave me a detailed explanation for his estimate, and when the guys came out a week later, they said there was no surprises in the surveying and it all went as planned.  So I was shocked when the final invoice I got was nearly 30% higher than the estimate, if it went as expected and there were no surprises.  Lee ultimately "split the difference" with me after I complained about this, so it was only around 15% higher, but was still disappointing.
-When I scheduled the appointment with Lee, he requested I be present and on-site to coordinate with his Survey team in case they needed anything.  Unfortunately, they didn't show up in the morning when they said they would, and didn't bother to call and tell me.  I had to call and learn that they had gone to another appointment first, and would be out later in the day.  (Lee explained one of the guys was sick, and not quite on-the-ball per the norm, which I can understand, but it was still a poor experience, and would have been worse if I hadn't had the luxury of working from home for that day).
-They also left holes on the property for both myself and the neighbor.  I understand they need to dig to locate survey markers, but leaving these rather large open holes in the property just didn't seem very professional to me.  They could have easily filled these holes back in after their work was complete.

    Township Surveys LLC
Left a VM with them and two other surveyors in town. Township returned my call the next day with a helpful VM - they would look in to the property and call back in a few days with a price and availability. I never heard back from the other two surveyors even after follow up VMs...
A few days later I heard back from a very nice gentleman with Township that walked me through their process, the costs and the timeline. I agreed and we setup our appointment.
Day of two gentleman arrived on time. I was off at work - my GF described them as very friendly and courteous. They quickly got to work - she walked them through where the one corner pin was that we had located and the areas we were most concerned about related to our fence. It took them a bit of time but they ended up locating two more corners for our property and made a best guess as to where the 4th one was - it was the corner we were least worried about - that side of the property already had a fence along it.
They left very nice stakes on all the corners with descriptions of what they found as well as a few extra stakes along the one property line we were most interested in being sure of - all in they did exactly what we needed very quickly & professionally for a very fair price.
They'll be the first call I make when I need survey work in the future.

    CHINOOK GEO SERVICES INC
I called Chinook and Marcy was able to meet me right away, which was helpful since we needed to make decisions on whether to purchase the property and time was of the essence. We were concerned because the property was in Hillsdale/West Hills on a terracing with houses above and below it and clearly there was the need for more retaining wall on one side and repairs of one on another and weren't sure how stable the overall area was. She had no problem with me walking around with her, explaining what she saw and answering my questions, it was quite an education. She provided excellent information, was able to provide both assurances and advice on some possible remedies where needed, careful to refer me to a different type of professional where appropriate. She also showed me a map that revealed the house was very close to a fault line placing the house in a 'red zone'. She also showed us a deep gully nearby responsible for the cracking in the concrete that was in the realm of normal for the age and gully grade nearby. For other reasons we went with a different house, but having the information helped us make a good decision. If we had gone with that house we would have been prepared for updates necessary. It was a little more than I'd like to spend for an hour investigation, but it's specialized and there are few residential geotechs available from what I can see. We still consider it money well spent.

    CASWELL HERTEL SURVEYORS INC
Excellent. Al Hertel quickly gave me an estimate over email, and I sched a date. I got estimates from 4 survey companies and his was the best, plus he had preformed several of these surveys recently. Al showed up on time as scheduled. He was very friendly, and took time to explain the process and FEMA requirements. He took one trip to make measurements of the house, and the next day completed the survey from a known elevation. He dropped off the survey results / elevation certificate in person, and explained the results. I'll use him again if needed and recommend to others.

    ZTEC ENGINEERS
Their estimate was way under the other two we got. The work was done well. My only small complaint was that they did not coordinate with me so I could be at home when they came. This resulted in a few things missing in the drawings but we got by that.
